Obama Raises $32.5 Million in Second Quarter

Share

ABC News' Jonathan Greenberger Reports: Sen. Barack Obama announced Sunday that his presidential campaign raised a at least $31 million for the primary election and at least $32.5 million including general election funds over the past three months.

Obama's cash totals this quarter will likely best Sen. Hillary Clinton D-N.Y., whose campaign has said the former first lady probably raised somewhere around $27 million.

Thank Republicans, $$$$$

Obama raised this money because enough SANE people are tired of the status quo and want someone intelligent, progressive, grounded and innovative at the helm. He isn't owned by lobbies, he doesn't claim to be perfect, and he'll be an excellent choice to bring this country back together (as much as any President can). It isn't mainly Republican $$$s that got him there, BUT many Independents and Republicans - as well as Dems - are supporting him because many of us see his strengths on the National as well as the Global level. It's time America got her pride and respect back as the great Nation she once was and can be again. Obama will take us there... as well as any President can. In spite of all the smear campaigns, nothing has come forth that reveals Obama as anything less than the candidate he claims to be. And we, the 'little people', are speaking with small steady donations in spite of all the media lies. If he becomes our next President, this country can get back on track and I'll be proud to be an American once more - and it's been awhile since I've been proud of our leadership.

How much of that war chest does ABC (Disney) plan on getting for the right to air ads?

Why would a rookie that has failed every public test so far be able to raise that kind of money? The answer; the republicans are playing games. They are donating to Obama in hopes he can defeat Clinton. They know that they have a chance to beat him in the general election. They want to run against him instead of her. If those donations were from democracts only, Obama would be far ahead in the polls.

Hi ST,
Just wondering which public tests the so called "rookie" failed? He was against getting us into Iraq wasn't he? Was he able to foresee all this mess becos he could think clearly through issues and intelligence?
I bet you are either a wall street rich kid or a poor religious conservative who cares only about gay, abortion and welfare.
Have u ever seen and talked with any of our boys that recently returned from Iraq.
I am a veteran.

I love the way pundits and others are trying to say that republicans are supporting Obama's campaign.

Some republicans have donated - the ones that are sick of their party leaders and like what Obama has to offer.

I'm a lifelong democrat and I've donated to Obama's campaign twice. I've pledged to myself to bring in five new donors for the third quarter.

I'm determined to do everything I can to ensure Obama is the democratic nominee.

If Hillary is our party's nominee I will have to vote for the green party candidate or the independent candidate. And if our party is dumb enough to nominate Hillary, I will not vote for any democrat in the general election.

I'm not going to support a party who nominates someone like Hillary Clinton.

Hillary and Barrack trade faux blows until the convention. Obama 'sees the writing on the wall', concedes, and promptly becomes Hillary's VP running mate, forcing split Dems to accept HER if they want HIM. This one's been obvious for at least a year. Karl Rove has seen it coming for two.

Barrack's big money is a lot of pent-up angst over an UNELECTABLE HILLARY. The sick joke on his donors is that she's going to spend their cash anyway. At least most of them just took it out the ol' trust fund, rather than a hard-earned paycheck or small business revenue.

Obama is doing a good job of diverting resources from progressive Democrats away from real anti-war candidates like Kucinich or Gravel. Surprising so many people would give so much to a candidate who, until recently, voted to fund the Iraq War, and won't rule out bombing Iran.
Now, how much did Ron Paul rake in? My guess is more than $3 million. And with a leaner campaign, Dr. Paul can make his money go ten times as far.

The rest of the world think we Americans are very superficial. Otherwise, we won't vote to have our current president in power. I am so sorry that we put so much attention on the $$ raised that someone as inexperienced as Obama has to spend so much time on raising money instead of on learning about issues. He is already the least experienced and least knowledgeable among all running. Spending all his time on money does not sound like "new kind of leader" to me or to anyone. Most of people I know who intend to vote for Obama do not know him, nor his policies, just see a good looking face and good press coverage. He knows it and plays to this weakness of American superficiality. After eight years of an administration that does not know anything about policy, 2008 will be the last chance for US to correct its course if it has any hope to be among the top five strongest countries in the world. Electing another inexperienced one like Obama, US will have no chance to comeback later.

Obama experienced enough to recognize that this country is headed to the hand basket. The more "experienced"
candidates are all too tainted and not willing to try new things. We need fresh
energy, eyes, and a new face in the White House. GPM from Cali

Experience got us 8 years of Dick Cheney, war, less civil liberties, big ineffective government, partisanship and recession. To heck with you I am with the new guy..He is willing to work with the other side and not play games with our future.. I like that. .(Sings, "Put me in Coach I am ready to play the game...")

I don't know what people are talking about. Counting his years in Illinois, Obama has more legislative experience than Hillary. He's actually done real grass-roots efforts organizing as well.

The job is about judgment and integrity too. I want the next president to have strong moral convictions; Hillary seems to have none of that, wants to be all things to all people and will do anything to be elected.
