Senators stay in late again and they're catty
July 19, 2007 10:23 PM
ABC News' Zach Wolf reports: It's been a long week for Senators. They stayed up all night Tuesday talking about Iraq. All that hard debating has made them a little frustrated with each other and sloppy.
Thus, we find them in session way past quitting time on Thursday too. But while Tuesday was full of Iraq war debate, Thursday evening has been filled with a string of ever-more partisan, non-binding votes.
This will probably not last all night. But it's getting silly.
Right now, at 9:18, Republicans have the clerk of the Senate reading the names and crimes of every person Bill Clinton pardoned, including that terrorist Patty Hearst, into the Congressional record. The amendment being considered "deplores" the actions of Bill Clinton for pardoning people like Marc Rich and Patty Hearst and Roger Clinton at the end of his presidency.
Republicans offered that amendment because Democrats, frustrated with a Republican amendment on Guantanamo Bay, offered an amendment saying President Bush shouldn't pardon Scooter Libby. The Libby amendment failed 47-49.
While they were supposed to spend the evening debating and voting on a Democratic proposal to expand student loans and lower interest rates, Republicans thought the popular proposal might be a good time to try to sneak on some very un-democratic proposals.
There was one on union cards. Later there could be one saying that Social Security benefits should be denied to illegal immigrants. There was one saying its the sense of the senate to oppose efforts to shut the prison at Guantanamo Bay.
The student loan measure, because it waives the budget act, requires 60 votes as a matter of course. So none of these amendments will pass. No word yet if they are going to roll out the cots again.

I'm not sure that any comment at this time can add to this orgy of stupidity.
So, let me stay the course: the Democrats in the Senate have been digging tirelessly into the night all week, and have somehow discovered a New Low in American politics.

It appears that 14% is not low enough for these people. I think they are trying to get to 10% in the next poll. The Dems are convinced that they will not give Bush one bill that he can sign in the next 18 months. The Reps think that the American people will get tired of this crap and vote the Dems out.
We the people ARE tired of this crap but we are going to vote ALL the bums out. It's time to clean house. Let's roll.

I think they're looking for single digit approval ratings. The only thing these tools will pass is their own pay raise. I'd like to see both parties put term limits on their party platforms next year. Won't happen, but I'm allowed to dream aren't I?

Wake me up when this worthless congress stops investigating someone every 5 seconds, stops crying about the mean republicans, and stops trying to convince the American people that they should be agreed with. Boy, did they ever fool the public with all the lip service they gave to get elected. All lies.
