Wilson: Bush 'Accessory' to Obstruction of Justice
July 02, 2007 9:28 PM
ABC News' Steven Portnoy Reports: The former ambassador whose criticism of the Bush administration touched off the CIA leak scandal calls President Bush an "accessory" to obstruction of justice.
In an interview with ABC News Radio, Joseph Wilson said Bush's commutation of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby’s prison term demonstrates that "this administration is corrupt to the core – from top to bottom."
The rare exercise of executive clemency saves Libby from 30 months in federal prison, but it does not absolve him of $250,000 in fines and two years of supervised release.
Libby was convicted in March of lying to federal investigators about his role in the leak of the identify of Wilson's wife Valerie Plame, who was an undercover CIA operative.
In commuting part of Libby's sentence, Wilson says, President Bush is complicit in Libby’s crimes.
"He is an accessory to the obstruction of justice in this commutation of the sentence," Wilson told ABC News. "He, himself, is now under a cloud."
Wilson, who criticized the White House in the summer of 2003 for improperly claiming that Saddam Hussein sought weapons-grade uranium from Africa, is suing a number of current and former Bush administration officials – including Vice President Cheney – claiming the White House staffers sought to ruin his reputation and that of his wife, former CIA officer Valerie Plame.
But, he said, "We have suffered nothing compared to what has been suffered by our troops and their family members as a consequence of a war engaged in by an administration that justified it through lies."

Remember when Bush said he would punish the person who identified Valerie Plame as a covert agent?
What a joke.
Our "elected officials" make me sick.

Not everyone in Texas is a Republican. And not everyone voted for Mr. Bush. The Republicans keep talking about Clinton only because they are ashamed of Mr. Bush. Once again son like father read my lips... The seed doesn't fall far from the tree.. A lie is a lie. The rich get richer and the poor gets poorer. And when its all said and done Mr. Bush will have to answer for what he has done to our country..And to our military families...
God Bless America

Clinton lied about consensual head. Libby lied about an act of treason. For those who say they are the same thing is playing semantics with other peoples' lives.
S Temper says, "debunked the Bush administration's claim that Iraq sought yellowcake (uranium oxide) from Niger."
Wrong, the country Bush accused was Nigeria, and they don't even have yellowcake. When Nigerian officials tried to correct Bush's mistake, they were told by the State Dept. to "shut up". Your "truth" is diluted by several false claims, and opinions. If Wilson finding the truth about Bush's false claims is inflammatory, I'll take that kind of inflammatory any day, it might have prevented the deaths of 3,500 Americans and countless innocent Iraqis.
Days before Bush's speech to Congress, when he knowingly made the false claims, the CIA itself sent the white house a letter saying the source of the information, a twice convicted drug dealer, could not be trusted, and should not be presented as evidence. Bush used it anyway.

Since this was lying to the grand jury, can it be construed as other than a "crime against the United States" and therefore, not pardonable? Thank you.

Bush poll numbers are low, so he does not care about what actions he do. The bad thing is that things like this still carry weight in his day to day lame duck Presidency. Too bad we're in it too, it affects our lives, it is disgraceful and these people will continue to enrich themselves forever and will do more damage in whatever number of days he have left.

Why is it that the only defense Bush supporters ever offer for his actions, is to point to Clinton? Bush is president. Two wrongs dont make a right, nor do they excusethe commander in chief from accountability.
Everyone knew Bush would pardon Libby - its just that no one expected it this early on. The Bush admin must be REALLY scared of what Libby could tell them, to risk driving the president's, and by default republican's standings in the polls so low heading into an election year.
Just my two cents worth.

I guess "Accessory to obstruction of justice" is oakaly dokaly in the New World Order that G.H. Bush Senior ushered in and G.W.Bush Junior is carrying out.

The judge that sentenced Lil Scooter and the jury that convicted him must really feel as though their rights have been trampled on. What's the use of spending all that money and time on a trial if Georgie already knew he was going to undo whatever the justice system decided? That's all he is good at, ruining and undoing. Another American system bites the dust!
