AFL-CIO Working on '08 Endorsement

ABC News' Christine Byun Reports: After the Democratic candidates wrapped up their sometimes heated debate Tuesday in Chicago, AFL-CIO president John Sweeney could not say when an official endorsement would come from the nation's largest labor federation. Speaking to reporters at Chicago's Soldier Field, Sweeney said the AFL-CIO would "have a long discussion" on Wednesday on the endorsement process.

Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards has been actively wooing union support -- and Sweeney's taken notice: "John Edwards has been campaigning very strongly, very hard." Sweeney also said "there's certainly no question about Hillary's experience", referring to the Democratic senator from New York, who leads the Democratic presidential field in polls.

ALF-CIO Spokesman Steve Smith says this election's excitement and support are "bigger than it's ever been."

"You have the force of 15 million working men and women behind you trying to win the White House and, frankly, there is no other organization that brings that to the table in a general election," AFL-CIO Spokesman Steve Smith said.

Tuesday's forum was the second part of AFL-CIO's invitation to the candidates. For the past couple of months, each candidate held town halls with union workers and their families in different cities.

Are all the Liberal bigwigs going to repeat their folly of '04 with Howard "I have a Scream" Dean?
They annointed en masse the "hot candidate" far too early--only to have him crash and burn in the primaries.
That must have been richly satisfying to Sen. Lieberman, who was betrayed when his running mate of four years previous was among the first to commit to Loud Howard.

It was Lieberman who betrayed the Democratic Party, not the other way around. The Democrats in Connecticutt has spoken yet he went on and got the Republican votes! In my opinion, Senator Lieberman is nothing but a me, me, me, politician.

The modern day Move-On.org, DailyKos, George Soros edition of the Democratic party has not only betrayed America and the worldwide battle against terrorism and for freedom--but it has betrayed the strong national defense principles of Harry Truman, JFK, and Hubert Humphrey.
The Pelosi/Reid Dems sold out freedom for raw political advantage when a war they voted for turned bad (real bad). History will remember them as disgraceful opportunists! As the Surge continues to improve the chances for the people of Iraq, the Dems worry about their "real big problem." Americans did not grow tired of the war, we grew tired of believeing we were losing the war. The Dems will suffer for betting the farm on Defeat.

They should back Edwards in mass force. However they might be afraid with all these media driven trumped up polls showing that everyone in America would vote for Hillary Clinton if they could.
