Clinton Campaign Distances from Fugitive Fundraiser
August 31, 2007 2:21 PM
ABC News' Kate Snow reports: With Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu now facing jail time in California, Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is racing to put some distance between the Senator and the former fugitive.
The campaign is making plans to give twenty-three-thousand dollars donated by Hsu to Clinton's campaigns and political action committees to a charity for Iraq war veterans, Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said.
New invitations are being printed for a fundraiser scheduled for late September in Woodside, California, which Hsu was originally supposed to host.
"His event was cancelled," said Singer.
Hsu turned himself in at San Mateo County Superior Court on Friday. California authorities said they had been looking for him for years after he skipped a sentencing hearing for a 1991 grand theft charge.
While he was on the lam, Hsu was busy raising money for many Democratic causes and candidates, including 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and current presidential hopeful, Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill.
Other Democratic campaigns are also returning money tied to Hsu.
Obama's campaign has also said it will give the money donated by Hsu to charity.
Hsu was -- to use campaign parlance -- a "bundler." He often gathered donations from friends and associates. That practice is common among all campaigns and is not unique to Clinton.
On Clinton's campaign website, there is still a photo of Hsu on a list of so-called "Hillraisers" -- donors who have pledged to raise at least $100-thousand dollars for the campaign.
Singer said Hsu's photo will not be removed since, for better or worse, he was an active donor and "Hillraiser."
"If we were to take his name off we would be re-writing history," Singer said.

I bet Hillary's pissed that she had to cut this guy loose. Especially after such a long relationship.

No one cares what BILL CLINTON did with Monica Lewinsky. He was not impeached for sex. He was impeached for PERJURY, and abuse of power, because he lied under oath, and attempted to deny two American citizens, Paula Jones, and Juanita Broderick their constitutional right to their day in court. Nowhere in the statute law regarding perjury does it state that perjury does NOT apply if you lie under oath about sex. A lie is a lie, and perjury is perjury. It matters not, the subject matter. Clinton simply committed two felonies, to cover up one misdemeanor.

It's probably a huge task to try and track just where each and every donation for these candidates come from, but one good thing about it, probably got donations from a lot of people who otherwise would never have donated to a charity. Oh, I think Prisk posted to the wrong story, or maybe the wrong world.

we are now finding out that this guy Hsu was living a phony stealthy life. All the references that he gave are bogus. Not one of his references has ever heard of this man, but he gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Clinton, Obama and other democrats around the country. How dumb are people in corporate political America. They don't check out anyone. They didn't check out anyone in the housing loan market either. This is totally unbelievable. And this is just a tip of the iceberg.

Hsu is obviously just a disinterested lobbyist type donor that expected no "help" from the politicians he bundled campaign contributions for. Did Obama take his money because he did not sign his check, Mr. Hsu, lobbyist?

Well...another case of the Clintons coming home to roost...The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions -Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad- First president to establish a legal defense fund.- First president to be held in contempt of court- First first lady to come under criminal investigation- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly - Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify - Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation - Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates-- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance ...just say it wasn't so Hillary...just say it wasn't so...

The Clinton's both are liar's, simply look at their history. They are filthy rich and were rich when they were in the Whitehouse. They tried to get the US trasury to pay for Bill's lies to a grand jury. I am one Democrat not buying a third actof the Clinton's. They are self serving liars.

It is incredible how ABC does not have a message board on this one. Couldn't have a big debate on why Hiliary cannot be trusted on their website.

The Clintons are history in my mind. You couldn't pay me enough to ever vote for them again. Their corruption in politics says it all.

The Clintons have no moral ground to separate themselves from Hsu. He was a frequent visitor to the White House. There group pictures were all over in the White House. Hsu was busy getting Chinese Intelligence Officers to make contributions to the Clintons for U.S. military technology. Hillary and her husband are a disgrace to the United States. The Bush/Clinton families are disgrace to the United States, in particular and mankind, in general
