Disorder in the House

August 03, 2007 12:14 PM

ABC News' Jake Tapper Reports: House Republicans are fired up about action on the floor last night just after 11pm Eastern.  The issue was a provision to ban any funds in the Agriculture Appropriations bill from being used for housing assistance for/the employment of illegal immigrants.

As the vote came to a close last night, Republicans say the scoreboard read 215-213, meaning the measure passed. But when Rep. Michael McNulty, D-N.Y., gaveled it down he said the measure failed 214-214, and had lost.

There was all sorts of chaos, and House Democrats being pressured to change their votes, all of it visible on C-SPAN (and now HERE).

Then the vote disappeared from the record as if it never happened and Republicans are alleging all sorts of shenanigans.

Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, for instance, changed his vote from YEA to NAY so that under procedural rules he could bring the bill back up again.  But his office says that switch was never recorded.  House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., and Boehner are meeting to hash this out.

I guess the time has come to remove the criminals from the House, There is no place for unconstitutional behavior and we will not tolerate it.

Don't forget that rep from upstate NY who changed her vote after the vote was supposed to have ended.

The Republican minority has repeatedly outmaneuvered, and embarrassed, the Dems in both houses to resist retreat, union payoffs, and amnesty. So now, the majority resorts to dirty, thuggish legislative tactics that one would expect in Venezuela, not in America! Rest assured, the MSM will cover for them.

Does anyone wonder why approval ratings for Congress at 3%, the lowest EVER in the history of recorded polls? You'd think with all the babbling about their President's poll numbers, the fact that theirs are the lowest in history would have some impact on them! It has...they are planning a big, expensive TV commercial campaign full of lies to insist that their "do nothing" behavior is normal and EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE! As predicted, Pelosi is going down as the WORST SPEAKER IN HISTORY and both houses are now commonly referred to as "Freak Shows" of incompetence, cronyism and pork peddling. Nice work Pelosi! ...oh, and they want to run the country to! LOL democrats should prepare for the brutal response coming their way in the near future!

This makes me extremely mad! They are playing with our CONSTITUTION! Vote them all out (I'm speaking of the Democrats, of course, since they are the ones who REVERSED the vote in order to be able to subsidize the illegal aliens in this country!)

At this point how big a jerk do you actually have to be to believe there is a difference between the two parties? Good Lord!

Just 24% give the president favorable ratings of his performance in handling the war in Iraq, but confidence in Congress is significantly worse - only 3% give Congress positive marks for how it has handled the war.

People got what they should have expected when they voted last year, hopefully they will use these experiances when choosing the next candidates.

I am elated that they are arguing in the house. This is what they are suppose to do. Its not suppose to be all nice and tidy like the republicans would have you believe. Congresspeople debate and the truth releases them from it. Thoughts are reformed and we then get the fruits of their labors. That is the way it is suppose to work.

It's not supposed to be nice and tidy. That said, it's also not supposed to be corrupt and illegal by declaring a vote closed, then denying that it was closed, then declaring the vote tally is something that it wasn't, and then denying that the vote took place.

What a bunch of idiots. This congress is not the congress that allowed the war to start in the first place. Why, therefore, woudl we fault the current congress for trying to end the war, and where are you getting your statistics from? Especially when the Repulbican candidaes for president are now distancing themselves from Bush's war

Republicans calling Democrats criminals. Lets see, tell a lie, start a war, continue that war at the loss of american lives. All this while you and your vice president rake in the profits fro mtheir oil companies. Who exactly do you consider to be a criminal?

We won't tolerate unconstitutional behavior.....yeah right we tolerate Bush and Cheny in office and 24% of america still supporst those idiots.

People Please educate yourselves before we elect another Bush and continue thsi war right into a third world war.
