Edwards Calls Coulter 'She-Devil'

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: Former Sen. John Edwards on Friday fired the latest round in his ongoing verbal feud with Ann Coulter, calling her a "she-devil" at a public event before quickly adding that he shouldn't engage in name-calling.

Edwards, D-N.C., was railing against the right-wing media -- including Fox News and Rush Limbaugh -- when he reminded a crowd in Burlington, Iowa, that his wife stood up to Coulter in a public spat earlier this summer.

"We know these people. We know their game plan. They're going to attack us personally," Edwards said. "They attacked Elizabeth personally, because she stood up to that she-devil Ann Coulter. … I should not have name-called. But the truth is -- forget the names -- people like Ann Coulter, they engage in hateful language."

In June, Coulter went on ABC's "Good Morning America" and said she had learned her lesson after being blasted for suggesting in a joke before the Conservative Political Action Conference that Edwards was a "faggot." "If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot," Coulter said.

That prompted Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, to call in to MSNBC's "Hardball" and challenge Coulter directly. "I want to use the opportunity … to ask her politely to stop the personal attacks," Mrs. Edwards said.

The call left Coulter uncharacteristically flustered -- and was quickly turned into a fund-raising appeal by the Edwards campaign.

John Edwards would kick most folks' butts; he's a tough trial lawyer from blue-collar roots. The glib assessment of his masculinity that Coulter offered is absurd.

CompMike:

"You conveniently forgot to add that Coulter's comment was mocking a comment by Bill Maher who said that he thought it would be good if Vice President Cheney was killed in a trip to Afghanistan."

They didn't forget. ABC News deliberately leaves the context out in order to fool the individuals who get their news from the broadcast networks. Fortunately, the number of such individuals is dropping dramaticaly.

Where was John Edwards when his wife called "Hardball" to criticize Ann Coulter? If John was offended by Ann's remark, why could a presidential candidate and former Senator speak for himself?

Will Edwards ask his wife to call al Queda and complain they are meanies? Time to get a life of your own, John.

Anyone who cannot see the theatrical method that Ann uses to expose people is not hate but more satire is a MORON,and almost as deluded as ABC news.

Coulter made light of the death of the Edwards' son. She's repeatedly dismissed the service of Max Cleland because he a triple amputee in Vietnam due to an accident rather than in combat. She makes a good living by crossing the lines of decency, to the detriment of our democratic discourse.

I'm a conservative, and Ann Coulter in no way speaks for me.

Any liberals out there have a clue why most US newspapers are on the verge of tanking? We are tired of subscribing to newspapers only to read editorials that rail against what their subscribers believe. That is informally known as "shooting yourself in the foot". If you do the same thing everyday expecting a different result this time, you may qualify as insane.

Will:

"Remember, she is laughing all the way to the bank when you read her hate filled books."

Ann Coulter is extremely mild when compared to what you find on the Daily Kos, Democrats.com, and other far-left hate sites. She's essentially the conservative version of Molly Ivins, only more attractive and intelligent.

John Edwards, no substance, all hair gel.

Whether you like Anne Coulter or not, this is shameful, to conveniently leave out was she actually said…

Bill Maher never said he wished Cheney was dead. If you conservatives ever watched his show you would know that he said something to the effect of "If Dick Cheney was fighting in Afghanistan right now and something happened to him, I think they world would be a better place" in regards to his foreign policy. It was a jab at foreign policy, not a fatwah to kill Cheney.

You poor misguided sheep. Ann Coulter and Bill Maher dated, and are good friends. Ann Coulter herself did not mention Bill Maher's remarks on that interview, so why should that CONTEXT even be considered. God only knows what ANN COULTER was thinking when she said it. And some GOP here believe they are Miss Cleoe and can read her mind for "context."

I will stick with what she actually said, rather than the imagined context. If she had been referencing something that her FLING Bill had said, I assume she would have mentioned it.

I'm glad to see so many others who recognize the slimy hack-job that passes for journalism at ABC. To ignore the context of that quote is mind-boggling, and the notion that Coulter was flustered by a whining Edwards is just absurd. Pathetic biased reporting on a pathetic third tier candidate.

It's amusing whenever the Edward's Campaign is low on funds, they choose to attack Ann Coulter or Fox News. Obvious signs of a desperate campaign with no issues or values to stand on. Also interesting how Edward's pulls out his Conservative hate card to change subjects from his latest campaign flub with his critical bash of the banking industry for the foreclosures on Hurricane Katrina victim's homes when he has over $16 million invested with the same banks. He is truly a joke of a candidate and always good for a laugh.

I am an atheist (and a Goldwater conservative) so I don't agree with Ann's religious views. But anyone that PO's arrogant lefties as much as she does has my endorsement. You lefties troll for offense and then cry crocodile tears whenever you find some.
John Edwards is simply a sleaze and a liar. Even if you're liberal, I don't see how you can support this jerk. A couple of the others are at least honest libs.

That prompted Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, to call in to MSNBC's "Hardball" and challenge Coulter directly. "I want to use the opportunity … to ask her politely to stop the personal attacks," Mrs. Edwards said.

I wonder if she meant personal attacks like calling a woman, oh I don't know. "She Devil" maybe.

The Edwards clan is almost as good at hypocricy and ABC's micreant Rick Klein is at liberally editing other's quotes.

Frankly, I'm disgusted with everyone's behavior. All of the name-calling, innuendoes, bearing false witness, and digging up every piece of filth or controversy one can think of is the reason out government isn't working the way it needs to. No one is perfect. All of us have faults and have made mistakes. The lack of civility disgusts me. We all need to shut up for a while and decide if we want to continue pandering to entertainers, politicians, news programs and others who, for their own personal gain, are turning our country into - I don't even know the word for it.

We have real problems in our country and they aren't new. We, our leaders, and those we look up to need to be coming up with some real solutions to things like, poverty, homelessness, health care for everyone, independence from fossil fuels. All facets of the political spectrum have been giving these issues for 40+ years and we are no closer to solving these problems then we were back then.

Let's all cut the crap and start solving problems instead of whining.

Wow, this place is just chock full of right-wing trolls isn't it?

I swear you folks would consider Pravda circa 1967 the 'liberal media.'

But then, if all you ever listen to is Rush, and all you ever watch is Faux News, what is to be expected? Bet you still think that Sadam was behind 9-11.

Tell me one thing though, how do you keep your knuckles from getting scraped up as they drag across the ground? What a bunch of Neanderthals.

I think I'll put on some Baby Einstein now, I need something intellectual after reading all your swill.

Poor Ann has had her comments taken out of context...she who does nothing BUT take other's comments out of context, and wraps them in lies and inuendo. I feel sorry for her, but not because someone slammed her, rather because she finds it difficult to live in the world with normal people.

Did somone actually CITE the Lamebrain?

Posted by: David | Aug 17, 2007 8:56:56 PM

the democrats created ANN COULTER. in the 1980's and 90's they ran around calling conservatives racist's and alot of other stuff until finally someone got fed up and started to describe the liberals as they really are. to bad it had to be a woman first. makes all us guys look spineless.
