Edwards Continues War on Fox News
August 02, 2007 4:00 PM
ABC News' Raelyn Johnson reports: Democratic presidential contender Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., has upped the stakes in his battle with Fox News, challenging his Democratic rivals not to accept campaign donations from top executives of News Corp, a company that includes Fox News under its large media umbrella.
Ultimately News Corp's single top executive is Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul who has donated to Sen. Clinton's Senate reelection campaign as well as her '08 presidential campaign.
Clinton set tongues wagging last year when she attended the "Fox News Sunday" anniversary party.
"No Democrat running for president should accept campaign money from top News Corp executives," said Edwards in a statement released Thursday.
"I'm challenging every Democratic presidential candidate to refuse contributions from News Corp executives and return any they've already taken, beginning with Rupert Murdoch. The time has come for Democrats to stop pretending to be friends with the very people who demonize the Democratic Party."
Edwards has said in the past that Fox News advances a right-wing agenda. His statement comes just days after Murdoch successfully purchased the Dow Jones Co. and The Wall Street Journal, a deal Edwards said was an unhealthy media consolidation.
Earlier this year Edwards further solidified his liberal base by pulling out of a Fox News sponsored debate planned by the Nevada Democratic Party. The state party ultimately dropped Fox as a sponsor due to lack of support among Democratic candidates. In April when Edwards dropped out of a Fox News and Congressional Black Caucus debate, Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., followed suit a week a later.

Fox does indeed lean harder to the right, however, CNN, CBS, MSNBC, all tout the Democrats points of view. It is hard for anyone to get any straight line news anymore without some bias one way or the other. John Edwards can avoid any contact with a differing opinion until the real campaign begins - but he will probably be on the sideline anyway. I thought it was pitiful to drop out of the CBC debate - guess they feel they have that vote anyway

Fox news has demonized the democrats in Washington since the Clinton years. They have been the source of blind rage that propel these morons to believe everything that George Bush does. Mr. Edwards is correct; the democrats should ignore Fox news.Further more, I wouldn't be so sure about Edwards watching from the sidelines. Obama is burning up quickly.

Funny how this article left out the fact that Edwards received $800,000
for his last book from Rupert Murdouch.
But hey FOX is the dishonest ones not NBC,ABC,CBS or CNN.
If any one would ever actaully WATCH Fox news they would see the only thing they are guilty of is giving BOTH sides
not just the liberal view.

Would the Libs appear in a Fox News debate if Ahmadinejad, Castro, Assad, Kim, and Chavez were on the panel? At least Obama would.
Edwards the "trophy husband" is a hypocrite! He takes $800k of Murdoch book money to help pay for his $400 haircuts and 28000 sq. ft. mansion on his side of the "two Americas"--while demonizing News Corp.

I guess that Fox news cable likes to play to the conservative republicans line of reasoning and Edwards wants none of it. After all, Edwards is a core conservative from a southern state. As a lawyer, he knows the debate traps they would set to push their own agenda. It would be like sitting in front of Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh answering coded baited questions. They would be feeding red meat to the lions. NO THANKS!

Too bad Mr Edwards is so scared of Fox news, that he refuses to participate in their debate forum. What happens if he is elected? Does he think coming face to face with World leaders like Putin, Mubarek, Musharref, Assad,or the ringleaders in IRAN, CHINA,or SOMALIA are going to be easy on him? To refuse to face an opponent is a spineless way to act, (par for a leftie Dem). Edwards is a HYPOCRITE...if you really want to bring the country together, you better not exclude 1/2 of the electorate who watches FOX NEWS!

46% of that 1/2 of the electorate watch fox news from time to time to get a good laugh at thier soo called news stories..ive seen more on lindsay lohan than darfur or what is being done to stop the cronies from shipping U.S. jobs overseas.... give me a break your over compensating with your figures of 1/2 of the electorate unless you want to include those that do happen to whatch fox news to get a laugh at their fair and accurate reporting.. what a joke that news organization is.. IF YOU LOOK CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE SCREEN YOU CAN SEE THE PUPPET STRINGS ..what a joke!

I think you guys are missing the point...Faux News and the Clintons are on the same team...they pretend to draw party line stances on issues but it's for show people. Murdock is supporting both Giuliani AND Clinton...don't you think that weird?
These people are all working towards obliterating our republic and it's constitution.
I feel very sorry for the 99% of the electorate that watch ANY of these networks...wake up sheeple.
Don't believe me? Do the research..it's all there..hiding in plain sight.
