Fred Thompson Heads to Iowa, Des Moines Paper Says
August 08, 2007 9:12 PM
ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Even though he won't be investing resources in this weekend's Republican Party Ames Straw Poll, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is showing he intends to be a force in the nation's first '08 caucus state with a trip to Iowa Friday, August 17, reports Tom Beaumont of the Des Moines Register.
Thompson is expected to travel to Des Moines for meetings with state legislators, the president of the Iowa Christian Alliance and politically active evangelical Christians, reports Beaumont.
The former Tennessee senator turned "Law and Order" star is still operating under a testing-the-waters committee and is not expected to formally enter the race until sometime after Labor Day.
National polls show Thompson in third or fourth place when matched against the rest of the Republican presidential field.

Thompson has claimed that he is determined to become a strong candidate for the 2008 elections, but i don't know any of his policies. Especially concerning international issues. What are his views on poverty?

Thompson is closer to a statistical dead heat with Rudy Guiliani. To which earlier polls are you referring? He is working on a comprehensive platform now and should announce about the first full week in September. The contrast between Fred Thompson and Rudy Guiliani are fairly large, but like night and day with the leading Democrat socialist at the present time. It is important for them both to show alternatives and contrasts to the leading Democrats and to articulate their vision and approach to governing our republic. Fred Thompson is a conservative Federalist, for lower taxes, more state involvement in their own decisions, a very strong defense, not a cut and run mentality for terrorism and our interests abroad. He supports the 2nd amendment and is not a liberal, anti-gun zealot like his Democratic opponents. He is not for social engineering on the Supreme Court and will nominate judges to the bench that will interpret law, not make law according to their own agenda or that of the current body politic. Fred Thompson is for personal freedom and responsibility for one's actions and is not into finding a victim behind every rock. There are tremendous differences between the GOP and the far left menu offered in the Democratic side. Dissatisfaction with Bush is not a sufficient reason to forget what kind of republic we would like to have. Thompson and Guiliani are well able to handle whatever is thrown at them, and to lead our nation.
