Fred Thompson to Run in '08

ABC News' Christine Byun reports: After a summer of "testing the waters," former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., will formally announce his intention to run for president via webcast on Sept 6th, Thompson political director Randy Enwright confirmed on a conference call to supporters Thursday.
Thompson will follow the announcement with a five-day visit to early primary states: New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina.
After a visit to Florida beginning Sept.13, there will be a "welcome home" party in Thompson's hometown of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee on Sept. 15th.
Thompson, a former 'Law & Order' actor, formed the "Friends of Fred" committee at the beginning of June with offices in McLean, Virginia and Nashville, Tennessee.
However Thompson left everyone wondering when he would officially jump into the '08 race.
Rumors pegged his announcement earlier this summer around the Fourth of July holiday. However that announcement never came.
The status of the campaign-in-waiting, staff shakeups, and less-than-expected fundraising numbers left many wondering whether Thompson waited too long and lost his momentum.
Thompson's summer-long venture into a possible candidacy also invited a liberal activist-blogger to submit a complaint with the Federal Election Committee, accusing Thompson of skirting election laws for raising more money than needed for the testing-the-waters phase.
However, as a non-candidate, Thompson has been able to maintain GOP top-tier status in national polls -- placing second at 16 percent behind Rudy Giuliani's 31 percent in the most recent Gallup poll.
His staffing has gone through a myriad of growing pains and various shufflings. Some staffers reportedly left because of chain-of-command issues, specifically with Thompson's wife, Jeri.
In late July, the "Friends of Fred" Chief Operating Officer and defacto manager Tom Collamore exited and Bill Lacy, who helped Thompson win a Tennessee senate seat in 1994, was pulled in from Kansas to staff headquarters in McLean, Virginia and take over the organizational reins.
In the last couple of days, Communications Director Linda Rozett was replaced with Todd Harris, a former McCain 2000 campaign spokesperson. From an internal letter, Lacy explained that they needed someone with more campaign experience and Rozett's exit was one of the "tough decisions to make our venture successful."

Thompson/Steele!
I would like to see how Fred does in the debates, but I'm glad he finally stepped up to the plate. Frankly, I would vote for just about any Republican if it would keep Hillary out of office - her marxism and socialism would devastate this country.

Great, another supporter of the current Iraq policy, Bush, Cheney and the republicans. Just what we need. Do you still support Bush, Cheney and the republicans? Stop, drop everything and sign up to go to Iraq, either in the military or as a civillian. There are no excuses. If you support Bush and Cheney, go. But most importantly take your kids. Show your true spirit. You and your kids go police the streets of Baghdad, there are no more excuses. If you support Bush, Cheney, and the Republicans, go and go now. Do not talk or type, just go. They need you over there. Their families will not go, and the majority of Republican families will not go. This should show you the Republican spirit for our nation. 100% of Army and Marines will vote with anyone politically that will stop American involvement of Iraq.

Fred has such a big ego and he has probably been gathering moeny from PAC's and Republican individuals where he doesn't have to declare how much money he has been given to run for President. Dishonest, I don't know but unethical perhaps, underhanded yes. However, I would never vote for Hillary because of the Clinton's involvement in NAFTA. I don't know if Fred speaks Spanish but he better learn, ya hear! I don't think we have anyone one any party's ticket worth voting for right now. We certainly don't need another Ronald Reagan type person. When Reagan was in office is when our country started to go to hell in a hand-basket.
Addendum: Remember when a Mexican truck ddriver passes you on the highway, it is because of the 110th Congress and King George sellling out another part of it's citizens to work to provide for their family's. Has our government and it's people gone insane. Perhaps.

A Republican who speaks clearly on issues like abortion and gay marriage will win the party nomination. Thompson is no dummy. I feel like Washington has come back from the grave….yee haaa!!!

Republicans found a trial lawyer they love. It's alright that Fred made money suing doctors. Only democrat lawyers affect medical cost.
Republican stand for one value: theocracy.This makes republicans not only look like a party of buffoons, they look real humorous too. They are like Barney of Mayberry. How the world views them and how they see themselves are two different things.

There seems little difference between Giuliani, Clinton, Obama, McCain and most of the rest on both sides. Thompson, Paul and Huckabee have the similar platforms. It boils down to one simple question. Do you want a government to ignore the Constitution or live by it? If the Constitution is worth more than the paper it is written on you only have three choices. Thompson, Paul or Huckabee. Thompson will get the Republican nomination. Clinton will get the Democratic nomination. The Clintons have a history of ignoring the first, second and fourth amendments. You pick.

Just what the Republicans need, another lobbyist turned actor. At least he might be able to scarf up some more campaign funds to give to his son again. Oh, I forgot, his son closed his Daniel Thompson Consulting firm right after his dad gave him the $178,000 from his senate war chest.

Fred announced on Thursday he's running. He's dropped over 3 points
in the Real Clear Politics poll since then. I guess He's falling, not running.

Good luck to the guy. Let`s hope he`s not another Romney flip flopper type! And let`s also hope we throw out a lot of these professional politicians in the House and Senate so they all know they work for us, not the lobbyists.

First, Fred is for SHAMNESTY. A couple of months ago he let slip how we have to bring these folks out of the shadows! You all know what that means.
Second, Fred is a member of the U.S. COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS, the U.S. arm of the NAU.
Third, in checking his voting record when he was a senator, it shows he never met an immigration bill he didn't like and didn't vote YEA on.
It's time for a president that puts AMERICA FIRST.
EVERY DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE IS FOR SHAMNESTY.....BAR NONE.
DO NOT VOTE FOR ANY CANDIDATE UNTIL YOU KNOW WHERE HE STANDS ON SHAMNESTY.
