Giuliani Says He is Equal to 9/11 Recovery Workers
August 10, 2007 12:37 AM
ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports: In Ohio on Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani R-NY handed his critics new ammunition regarding his role surrounding 9/11.
Speaking to reporters in Cincinnati, Giuliani said: "I was at ground zero as often, if not more, than most of the workers. ... I was there working with them. I was exposed to exactly the same things they were exposed to. So in that sense, I'm one of them."
Michael Palladino, head of the Detectives Endowment Association, the union of NYPD detectives, told the Associated Press that the mayor's record can't compare to those who spent 12 months sifting through toxic debris for evidence and human remains.
"As a result of their hard work, many are sick and injured. The mayor, although he did a fine job with 9/11, I don't think he rises to the level of being an equal with those men and women who were involved in the rescue, recovery and cleanup," Palladino said.
The former New York City mayor has already faced a large wave of criticism from first responders and relatives of those killed at the World Trade Center, who have contended that Giuliani was woefully unprepared for 9/11.
Just last month, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) released a 13 minute video on the internet urging its members to oppose Giuliani’s bid for the presidency, questioning his leadership both before and in the aftermath of the September 2001 terrorist attacks. At the time of the video’s release, the Giuliani campaign denounced what they called a 'clearly partisan' video and cited the IAFF's history of endorsing and supporting Democratic candidates.

While Rudy stumps across the Nation, proclaiming himself as "America's Mayor", -someone who supposedly knows how best to protect us, one FACT that shouldn't be lost on voters is that Guiliani is the "genius" who decided to put New York City's Office of Emergency Management Command Center- get this- IN the World Trade Center! He did this despite the WTC having been bombed once before in 1993, It was well known that it had been targeted for future attacks. Can we afford to have someone with this lack of judgment as President? God help us all should he win.

My source for each Rudy Scandal is RUDY HIMSELF. He has flip flopped on every issue and said he was full of **** and I agree.
Posted by: sm0ky | Aug 10, 2007 4:01:45 AM
Has Jan Simmons corroborated Giuliani's claims? Or is she just letting Rudy get away with spouting unchecked info that benefits him?
Posted by: jill | Aug 10, 2007 9:22:35 AM
Rudy you helped clean up 9/11 about as much as President Bush helped to clean up New Orleans. Leave the credit where the credit is due. You're already exaggerating and you haven't even been chosen to run for your party. Get over yourself, go home, you'll never be president, of this country anyway....
Posted by: Judy Slater | Aug 10, 2007 10:40:18 AM
Deosn't he belong to the party filled with hypocrites? "Family values" after 5 marriages? Yes that's the kind of "Family Values" America needs. And yes he is one of them - that lie comfortably not one of the heros who gave up their lives.
Posted by: RepNature | Aug 10, 2007 10:55:40 AM
Rudy is one of them...A neo con that is!
Posted by: JP | Aug 10, 2007 11:35:19 AM
To be frank, I don't think Rudy did much at all after 9/11, except arrange buses for unneeded blood donors and then stand like King Kong over New York City on a magazine cover. Like the other person said about Bush and New Orleans -- these so-called leaders watch while the work gets done.

If his own children won't give him an endorsement, how can I?
Posted by: waleeg | Aug 10, 2007 12:14:49 PM
Obviously Rudy is what we used to call a blow hard, a guy that exagerates his role in an event but at least he didn`t get lost for hours like our fearless leader and then show up to wrap himself in the flag with a fireman who was a real leader and hero.

And was he on the first Apollo mission to the moon?
Posted by: Gregory | Aug 10, 2007 12:29:56 PM
Rudy served more time at Ground Zero than most rescue workers, and Romney's boys are serving their country by working for him.
What a bunch of sissies!
Posted by: frank | Aug 10, 2007 12:44:22 PM
Nice try, Rudy. I don't know about the rest of your audience but I'm wearing my rubber boots, and it looks like they are, too. You will never be one of them, Rudy. Never.
Posted by: Henry | Aug 10, 2007 12:53:35 PM
All of you who folks that flame Rudy are very stupid, ultra left wing...agenda seeking morons!!!
Go ahead and vote for the guy who's name rhymes with Osama or the polorizing senator with the husband who can't really stomach the sound of his own wife's voice!!

When was Guiliana doing his "cross-dressing" schtick? It wasn't during the 9/11 crisis, was it?
Posted by: Jim Schwartz | Aug 10, 2007 1:30:30 PM
How does his healthcare compare to the 9/11 workers? Equal there?
Posted by: Dali | Aug 10, 2007 2:10:06 PM
Give me a break. All this guy did - in between his drag sessions - was walk around NYC for photo ops.
Posted by: Don | Aug 10, 2007 2:11:46 PM
Is it any surprise Giuliani's own kids won't have anything to do with him? He's too sneaky and too creepy.
His sneakiness and creepiness starts with his *marrying his cousin* and then getting the marriage annulled after fifteen years of marriage on a technicality because he originally had failed to get a dispensation from the Catholic Church to marry his cousin and so the marriage was not considered valid and so was annulled -- after being together as man and wife for fifteen years!
Good grief.

I hope ABC News' Jan Simmonds will follow up on Guiliani's claim. If he wants to assert that he spent as much or more time at ground zero as recovery workers, then this disgusting claim should be exposed for the grotesque fraud that it is. ABC News owes it to the memory of hundreds of slain workers to slap down this insult.
Posted by: Christian in NYC | Aug 10, 2007 2:43:38 PM
Ya, neocons, put this guy out there for a vote. He's got a good chance of winning....riiiiiiight.
Posted by: stevex47 | Aug 10, 2007 2:49:14 PM
Guilani doesnt amount to a pile of SPIT compared to the workers who lost and risked their ilves in the 9-11 incident. Guilani is nothing but a mamby-pamby politician who piggy-backs upon the lives of everyone who lost theirs on 9-11. He is lower than dirt.
Posted by: MayoralLiar | Aug 10, 2007 2:53:50 PM
Guilini reminds me of my old company commander who would always retreat to the rear during the battle and his famous saying was "I'll go back and call the medics and little bearers.

Firefighters Vs. Giuliani
July 18, 2007
A union's attack video takes liberties with the truth.
Summary
The union representing New York City firefighters is running a misleading video blaming former Mayor Rudy Giuliani for the deaths of more than 100 firefighters at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
We agree that Giuliani bears some responsibility for the widely documented failings of the fire department's radio communications on 9/11. It is true that the effective functioning of the fire department is a major responsibility of any mayor, and Giuliani had been in office since 1994. However, the video goes too far when it implies that bad radio communication was the only reason that 121 firefighters failed to clear the North Tower of the Trade Center after the first tower collapsed. To the contrary, the 9/11 Commission stated in its final report that the technical failure of fire department radios "was not the primary cause of the many firefighter fatalities in the North Tower."
Other aspects of the video are misleading, including:
an allegation that Giuliani "blamed the victims" for not following evacuation orders, when his comments were in response to a question about heroism on 9/11;
a statement that Giuliani pulled firefighters off recovery efforts, when he had reduced, not eliminated, the number of workers;
a claim that Giuliani had protesting firefighters arrested, when arrests were minimal and most charges were dropped, as requested by the mayor.

Yeah a 50 year old man who's exercise consist of sexual afairs did more than PD and FD trained for rescue. He was portrayed as a marine that found Nicolas Cage in the WTC movie remember.
The sad thing is that some believe him. Just because he lowered taxes doesn't mean he should be president(Hanity/fox) anyone could do that. Its too early to publicly back one of the current jokers.
911 is all he has going for him he was in the right place at the right time during a personal political low. 911 will be used by the republicans/murdock all during election season. Maybe along with a new war or terrorist attack.

How ridiculous for one of his deputies to say that he was wonderful on 9/11. Showed such great leadrship. Give me a break. Getting through that is actually quite easy.
It is the decision-making that matters and on that basis Rudy failed. He did not coordinate the communications systems of the police, firemen, etc. nor did he move the command center out of the WT Center. Passivity rather than action is a common culprit in bad leadership.

I love how libs always put Bush and Katrina together....Isn't N.O. a city and isn't the peron responsible for a city a mayor...and isn't the state the gov's responsibility. Are you people out of your minds? Dems were in charge of the city and state. Maybe if they were not too busy using city and state money to pander to gays and illegals then they could have fixed the levves. All of our gov't is wrong. That is why the infastructure in this country is falling apart. We need to use our money for what is wrong with the country and not for earmarks and every bleeding heart with a cause.

The man is a serial liar you needs the spotlight to feed his enormous ego. He pushed out Bratton because he was getting good press and eventually promoted his bodyguard, Bernie Kerik, to police chief. The man is a meglomaniac.
"Rudy's character flaws were evident at the very beginning of his public career. Before he ran for mayor the first time (and lost) in 1989, Giuliani had a shining Tom Dewey-esque reputation as a giant-killing prosecutor. Among the reporters who followed him, he also had a reputation for inflating his own accomplishments and using his power to humiliate people." Salon "Two parts hubris, one part paranoia" 12/5/06

The State Legislature June 22 passed a measure designed to reduce the Police Commissioner's power over disciplinary matters, which could enable the police unions to block the NYPD's move to have all officers who fire their guns when it involves injury or death to take Breathalyzer tests.
Michael Palladino opposes intoxication testing after police shootings
Currently, the department allows undercover officers to have two drinks while on duty to help them keep their identities secret. But critics of the department have questioned why Detective Gescard Isnora, who followed Mr. Bell and his friends from inside the club and was the first to fire at the men, wasn't tested for alcohol after the shooting.
Mr. Palladino maintained that alcohol didn't factor into the fatal shooting.

RUDY!!!!!!!!!
Shame on the citizens of New York who would vote for Hillary.

"Showed great ledership on 9/11"
Giuliani was quoted in his 9/11 Commision testamony that he got a call that morning telling him to leave WTC 7 to a FEMA command center on the pier the night before.
This scumbag has the audacity to prance around as "America's Mayor" and 9/11 hero when he was one of those who benefitted the MOST from 9/11 with possible foreknowlege! His "Giuliani Partners Inc." made up of all his mafia pals has used that hero image to make him hundreds of millions of dollars in "consulting" contracts. He come's from a mafia family himself. Hillary won't save you either peeps!
"cleaned up the mob" YEAH RIGHT!

Did you know that fewer salmon make it back home, up-river to spawn and reproduce than don't make it?
The reason is that the journey is hard when you have to swim against the current, so most die.
The RPvolution is moving fast... money can't buy it...other candidates can't stop it...the question is "will the media give Ron Paul the publicity he earns"?
If not, the race goes to Big Government and big problems.

"Anyone in New York City who would vote for a Democrat after 9/11 has got to go out and get a pair!!"
WE should get a pair? cause we're not authoritarian bedwetters looking for a daddy-in-chief? cause we believe NYC firefighters more than a thrice-married, cross-dressing, draft-dodging, bernie-kerik-hiring, al-qaqaa-troop-blaming son of a two-bit gangster running for president?
real new yorkers are smart and strong enough to have never fallen for bush -- he couldn't have won my state on 9/12/01.

Obama sounds like Osama? Seriously?? OK, by that logic, Giuliani rhymes with al-Sistani, the Grand Ayatollah of Iran. So therefore, a vote for Rudy is really a vote for the Ayatollah, by your own logic.
I mean, do you guys ever think your arguments through? Better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt.

What a shame to hear the opinions of uneducated Americans who never even bothered to stay tuned to the daily 9/11 press conferences of Mayor Guiliani.
Rudy did more than any one of the Republicans who are running for the White House.
Rudy not only uplifted a city in despair he raised the spirit of a nation and demonstarted leadership in the aftermath of the most catastrophic terror event in US history.
Shame to those who are so quick to belittle Rudy for his personal life preferences and shame to those who didn't bother to listen to Rudy during a time in our country where one voice even stronger and clearer than our own President calmed the fears of a nation and resolve to the American people.
Perhaps I am a bit swayed as I am from New York but 9/11 will never be forgotten in the minds of all New Yorkers and for those to discount the event that took place on 9/11 I say go live in your glass houses and never bother to come out.
Rudy, aside from his distinguished leadership regardless of what a democratic fire union will lead you to believe reduced crime in a city that had one of the highest murder rates in the country.
In addition to making NYC the largest safe city in America Rudy revitalized the city and created new jobs through tax cuts and reduced the welfare rolls so that people could once again have their self confidence once again.
Rudy may not be the most eloquent speaker in the room of wannabe presidents but he is surely tested on a far greater scale than any of the candidates. Rudy will win over voters in Florida because he is the only candidate who has a concrete plan to lead.
What a shame that those who have posted here have shown their ignorance for not recognizing Rudy's achievements during the greatest act of terror on American soil.
