'Invisible' Clinton

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Senator Hillary Clinton's, D-N.Y., first ad in Iowa will begin airing on Tuesday. The theme: "You are not invisible."

Clinton begins by saying, "As I travel around America I hear from so many people who feel like they're just invisible to their government."

Unlike Democratic nomination rival Senator Barack Obama's ads, D-Ill., there is no need for a formal introduction; the former first lady assumes the viewer knows who she is and promptly launches into attack mode.

"I never thought I would see that our soldiers who serve in Iraq and Afghanistan would be treated as though they were invisible as well. Americans from all walks of life across our country may be invisible to this President but they're not invisible to me," Clinton claims in the ad which feels more focused on November 2008 rather than the present.

This is a big week in Iowa. Both Obama and former Senator John Edwards, D-N.C., are planning bus tours through the state. Clinton plans to be there for a few days, but the timing of this advertisement sends the message that Iowa is important to Clinton and the upcoming Democratic Debate hosted by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in a special edition of 'This Week' is important as well.

Why does Hillary have such a shrill voice? I think her first TV Ad needs to be re-done. Its a very professional ad but she needs to use a softer caring voice in it.

Why does she have a shrill in her voice? Maybe she got it from yelling at Bill when he was having all those (right wing conspiracy) affairs with women that were better looking than she was.

Could be.

The more I see Hillary the less I like her. She would do or say anything to win. At least Elizabeth Edwards is honest.

"I never thought I would see that our soldiers who serve in Iraq and Afghanistan would be treated as though they were invisible "

I can't believe she said this..she is the one that did not vote for funding the trip and now she is all of sudden for helping the troop.

I just want to see ONCE clinton talk without her scripted "cheat sheets'... where is her heart?

Why doesn't Hillary become invisible? That would suit me fine.

Hillary isn't invisible--just her history.
According to the LA Times: "...nearly 2 million pages of documents covering her White House years are locked up in a building [at the Slick Willy Prez Library], obscuring a large swath of her record as first lady. Clinton's calendars, appointment logs and memos are stored at her husband's presidential library, in the custody of federal archivists who do not expect them to be released until after the 2008 presidential election.....in the healthcare documents, at least 1,000 pages involving her work has been censored by archives staff..."
So, the records can and will be released--just not until after she is sworn into office.
So while she asks us to trust her with running our healthcare, she refuses to let anyone see the inner workings of her massive and mysterious campaign for universal healthcare in 1993 and 1994. Hillary also blocked healthcare professionals from having much involvement in the Hillarycare plans.
Nevermind, just trust Hillary, because as she says, "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

President Bush (43) is the one responsible for the current delays in the release of Presidential records, having issued Executive Order 13233 in November 2001, drafted by Alberto Gonzales at the same time as he was implementing the illegal Domestic Wiretapping Program. Here is what White House had to say earlier that year about the archives of previous administrations. From Wikipedia: In a White House memo dated March 23, 2001, the Counsel to the President conveyed the following to U.S Archivist John W. Carlin:

"Section 2(b) of Executive Order 12667, issued by former President Ronald Reagan on January 16, 1989, requires the Archivist of the United States to delay release of Presidential records at the instruction of the current President. On behalf of the President, I instruct you to extend for 90 days (until June 21, 2001) the time in which President Bush may claim a constitutionally based privilege over the Presidential records that former President Reagan, acting under Section 2204(a) of Title 4, has protected from disclosure for the 12 years since the end of his Presidency. This directive applies as well to the Vice Presidential records of former Vice President George H.W. Bush."

Good try, but not good enough.

Per 13233 sect. 3.d.2, the former President (Clinton) may authorize his records to be released, with concurrence of the incumbent president.
Has Bill Clinton offered to make these records public, only to be denied by Bush? NO. Many records regarding their healthcare plans are already released. Per the LA Times article, Bush is not the hold-up; it is the archaic record keeping and delays at the Clinton Library. Certainly presidential documents should be reviewed for national security concerns, but there is no national security reason for withholding access here.

It's amazing that (per LA Times) "A trove of records has been made public detailing the Clinton White House's attempts to remake the nation's healthcare system, following a request from Bill Clinton that those materials be released first."
--Yet Bill conspicuously withheld info on Hillary's role on her signature issue:
"The healthcare papers that have been released contain gaps when it comes to the part played by Hillary Clinton. A number of records involving her have been kept secret because they include confidential advice between presidential aides. Among the withheld documents are memos about meetings between Hillary Clinton and Democratic Sens. Christopher J. Dodd and Joseph R. Biden Jr. -- now her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination. Other records kept from public view include a 1993 memo to the first lady entitled 'positioning ourselves on healthcare,' and another from that year called 'public portrayal of the Medicare program.'" How hypocritcal for Mrs Clinton to say anyone is invisible to the Bush administration when many NYers go without healthcare, jobs, child care, etc. Her solution as our Senator - to go out on the campaign trail to 'discover' Iowans and ignore us NYers further! People aren't happy about this -

Carl, so you're saying that it was okay for Regan and Bush43 to keep thousands of docs "protected from disclosure" for 12+ years but it is somehow Sen. Clinton's fault that the National Archives and Records Administration (which runs the library) cannot keep up with the high popularity of Clinton-era documents? What do you suggest, that Bill and Hillary go and volunteer as librarians?

In the case of the documents subject to the privilege of presidential advisers, I'm sure you'll be the first to argue that the Presidents' confidential advisers should be subject to FOIA and Congressional subpoena? (Yes, I'm talking about Karl Rove.)

Invisible men and women??? Common Hillary, that is not possible. Were it possible Bill would have told you..or would he?

Posted by: LibSlayer | Aug 16, 2007 3:59:37 PM

I'm not saying anything about Reagan or Bush. In fact, it's quite likely that H.R. 1255, "The Presidential Records Act Amendments of 2007" will pass with veto-proof majorities (already has in the House). Congress is always trying to get more info out of the White House. The Dems are wary of Bush, and the GOP is wary of future Dem presidents.
As I said above, it's Bill Clinton who has already released a "trove" of documents related to his administration's risky health care schemes--yet Bill deliberately omitted material related to Hillary's involvement.
Now Hillary says that healthcare is her big issue, and we should trust her version of single payer healthcare (socialized medicine).
But because of her husband, we get absolutely no insight into her "greatest achievement" as first lady/advisor.
Hillary shouldn't campaign on her experience with healthcare, while her husband deliberately withholds information on that experience. She shouldn't campaign on "openness" when the vast political machine she inherited from her husband refuses to practice it.
Bush's claim of Executive Privilege with Rove will stand up while Bush is in office, but probably not for long after he leaves. Judicial Watch will go after him just as hard as they pursue Clinton's records.

Hillary where are your records, are they invisible. Clinton has taken a leaf out of the other Clinton's campaign manual. Tell everyone what they want to here even if one statement conflicts with one you made the day before, act like a winners and be a power talker;.

Somehow I doubt Mrs Clinton's people radar is very reliable when it failed to spot all those bimbos circling #42.
At least.... that's what she says.... that she was ' surprised and shocked'.
So which is it: not telling the truth, or not spotting it? Either way, she doesn't seem like presidential material when the nation needs to be clicking on all cylinders.

Hillary's white house diaries, records, notes etc are invisible to America because they are sealed until after the 08 election. The women Bill attacked, harrassed, fondled, and raped are invisible to Hillary as well.

Yep, lot's of invisibles out there Billary.

Let's hear something positive for Hilary. After all, she is the democratice front runner for a reason. Take heed, critics1
