Jenna Bush Engaged to be Married
August 16, 2007 2:08 PM
ABC News' Jon Garcia and Steven Portnoy report: The White House announced Thursday that Jenna Bush, daughter of President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush and fraternal twin to sister Barbara, is engaged to be married.
No wedding date has been set yet, according to Mrs. Bush's press secretary Sally McDonough.
The White House announced the engagement in a brief written statement to the media.
"President and Mrs. George W. Bush are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jenna Bush, to Mr. Henry Hager, son of the Honorable and Mrs. John H. Hager of Richmond, Virginia," read the statement.
"Miss Bush and Mr. Hager became engaged Wednesday, August 15, 2007," the brief announcement read.
The White House was characteristically quiet about the First Daughter's engagement, but Mrs. Bush's press secretary confirmed they were engaged in Maine and doesn't know if Mr. Hager, 29, asked the President for his permission or blessing.
Hager is scheduled to enter his second year at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. He is the son former Virginia Lt Gov John Hager, who was only recently appointed to head the Virginia Republican Party.
The elder Hager also served under the current President Bush in the US Department of Education.
"The President and First Lady are very pleased," McDonough said in a phone interview, but politely sidestepped detail questions.
In a February, 2005 appearance on GMA, a few weeks after the Washington Post's Reliable Source first reported the relationship, Laura Bush told Charlie Gibson:
"This is not a serious boyfriend. I hate to, I have to be the one to say it on television, but he's a very nice young man."

Congrats to the Bush family. Some of you people who post on these boards are really scary with some of the things you say about each other and others. I guess the anonimity of the internet (perceived) causes you to post some really terrible and means stuff. It's news because it is the daughter of the President of the United States. My only sad commentary of this whole thing is that there are hundreds and possibily thousands of young lives who will not be able to experience the same happiness because they were killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Wonder how the first family would feel if their future son-in-law was being shipped out next month. That's what thousands of regular folks face every day.

this is wonderful! i hope they are married at the white house. i love this kind of news.

Like already stated, why should we be happy for them? It's great for people to experience love and all that happy stuff, but is it necessary to have it news? Having a rich powerful family join another one isn't exactly a good thing. Get your heads out of the sand and look at society, rich get richer, middle class gets poorer, poverty rises.
BUT that's ok since a little Bush is getting married soon. *rollseyes*

Yeah, that's it. We are so jealous of Ms. Bush and for that matter the whole Bush Clan. No, it is more like revolted, disgusted, and ashamed. What this family has done to American and you fREIDA just go right along with it. You worry me just as much as Bush.

Thankfully school is about to begin and you kids will have somewhere and something you have to do, as you are obviously to young and ignorant to be conversing with adults. Look forward to your growing up

"Democrats have been so jealous of George Bush ever since he has been in office that they are green with envy ..."
Bwaaahaaaahaaaahaaaahaaa!!!!!
Thanks for the laugh, I needed that!

When did this become about color? Yes I agree that we have the right to saw what we want because of freedom of speech, but come one! There are some that are more worried about the "rich white kid" than about the poor family down the street who are struggling to buy their kids new school clothes or school supplies. Someone said something about maybe they should enlist or do some meaningful work... how often do you do meaningful work, or have you even enlisted for the armed services or the reserves? I can honestly say I haven't done either, but I do my best to help out in my community and help others. The only reason people have an issue with the Bush girls is because of the mistakes their fathers made. I do agree that with all the problems in the world...hurricanes, tropical storms, earthquakes and poverty, there is so much that should be done instead of setting around griping about a "rich white kid" getting married to another "rich white kid"!

Congratulations and Best Wishes to the young couple. May they live happily ever after in the South American retirement home of Daddy Bush while the rest of us live over here in the real world with the real consequences of the Bush Detours.

Yeah, rush the wedding as Daddy's is almost out of the White House. Congratulations on one who wants to settle down.

Well this was news. I didnt' realize they were fraternal twins. I guess I wasn't paying attention but they look identical to me.

No Southern Beale, speaking for many democrats, we just don't like a criminal government. And worry that these types of Republicans, neocons or whatever, are leading us to a dictatorship with no repect for the rule of law. They remind us of Nazis.

It has nothing to do with race at all. If this girl were a normal blue collar, middle class worker, than this would of never made news. Just because she is the presidents daughter give's her more attention. Hopefully she has a head on her shoulders and doesn't carry that silver spoon anymore.
Must be great to be wealthy and not stuggle financially everyday.

This (service age) young man can marry the daughter of a "War President" and serve in his administration, with NO mention of his service in the so-called "war". Nice.

"Have we forgotten about 9/11 and what it means to be supportive of each other and our country?"
No, but the President did. We were all united after 9/11 but he decided to sow divisions among ourselves and the world. He destroyed the promise of a new unity after 9/11 and he claimed to be a uniter not a divider. He made the USA as symbol of TOTURE. I'm 50 years old and never in my life thought that the US would consider TOTURE. His administration thinks the Geneva Conventions are quaint. Our soldiers are doing their 4 th tours of duty in Iraq with no end in sight. Military suicides are at an all time high. His administration deserves the all the scorn, disrespect and derision heaped upon them as well as those Americans who still support this man who has trampled our Constitution.
That many of us don't give a damn about his privileged drunken daughter marrying shouldn't be too hard to understand.
That's it is considered "breaking news" on a day that has a major earthquake in Peru, hurricanes in the gulf, miners still trapped in Utah, the stock market crashing, and a President getting darn near close to threating another unproved war in the middle east is just another symptom of a broken press corps and a broken country. 15 more months of this man just might bring another American Revolution, so pardon me if Jenna's marriage announcement seems like a slap to the face.

Jenna Bush marrying Sammy Hagar? Totally cool.

It saddens me to see how mean-spirited people from all political walks in the US have become. Take a look at any local newspaper, and engagements are announced every week. Any national figure is going to make national news when an engagement is announced regardless of their political party.

YIPPEY SKIPPY one more thing we'll pay for w/ our tax dollars, first we support the Iraquis, and now we'll pay for the WHITE HOUSE WEDDING and the gown & the cake & the flowers in the rose garden, while monkey face George gives away the bride. PLEASE get the hell out of the WHITE HOUSE ASAP, I can no longer afford to keep them there
