Romney Attacks "Sanctuary Cities"
August 21, 2007 12:16 PM
ABC News' Matt Stuart reports: Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney today released a new radio ad targeting so-called "sanctuary cities."
"That's the problem with cities like Newark, San Francisco and New York City that adopt sanctuary policies," the ad claims, "Sanctuary cities become magnets that encourage illegal immigration and undermine secure borders."
Romney's ad debuts after federal officials announced that two men suspected of killing three people in a Newark schoolyard were in the United States illegally.
The ad, which is airing in Iowa and New Hampshire, is merely the latest step in the debate between Romney and fellow Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani that began two weeks ago. Romney accused New York City of being the "poster child for sanctuary cities" under Giuliani. Giuliani fired back, arguing crime rates dropped dramatically during his time as Mayor. The ensuing debate has led to suggestions that immigration could drive a wedge issue in the Republican party.

Ed Koch's . . . yeah, I agree. Anyone who believes an all powerful creator had to be nailed to a piece of wood to forgive us for sin's (instead of just making it his will) is for kooks. Only crazy people would beieve in crap like that. Next- you're going to tell me you know someone who walks on water.

GREAT!!! Finally someone with moral courage enough to tell the TRUTH. Why encourage illegals to cross the border? COME HERE LEGALLY if you want to immigrate.
P.S. The Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints... humm, maybe Mormons DO believe in Christ!

Hmmmmm..... what exactly IS Jesus Salve?? Sounds kinky. Unexpected, this is, since you are obviously so closed minded.

Mayors and City Councils that issue so-called "Sanctuary City" orders and decrees to protect illegal aliens are creating anarchy and should be criminally charged with aiding and abetting crimials. In the case of Newark, New Jersey - that City Council and Mayor should be charged with criminal conspiracy that enabled the Triple Murder of those college students by the Illegal Alien. This happens all too often and it is because these rogue Mayors are illegally issuing so-called "Sanctuary City" decrees that encourage and demand that the cities harbor and support illegal alien criminals. ENOUGH!

Sad Sad Sad. Grow Up!! Aren't we a free country. Maybe I shouldn't vote for Catholic, Methodist, Athesist, etc. Sad World we live in.

Giuliani is for Amnesty. He said so again the other day on Fox. Romney is against Amnesty. He specifically says so in this new ad. So now I feel a lot better about Romney.
Amnesty killed McCain's campaign and it will kill Giuliani's too.
I now think Romney will beat Giuliani, largely based on the Amnesty issue.

Perhaps Romney has the backbone we need in a president. One that will not cater to illegals! We all know it is lacking in the present occupant of the WH.

ABC should be ashamed of themselves for allowing these comments to be printed. These comments are not discussing the article but instead spewing out hatefully rhetoric.

Any presidential hopeful that's puts his foot down and says his number priority is the get the illegals out of this country has my vote. So who's steppin forward?
Posted by: Mikey | Aug 21, 2007 1:28:54 PM
FAS.....your on a whole different dialogue. save it for when and if Clinton releases her income tax statement
Posted by: Freddie | Aug 21, 2007 1:34:28 PM
THERE HERE ILLEGALLY, why does that keep on going ignored. They choose to come here under that status, they have to live by that choice now.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! The "immigration issue" is only blue smoke and mirrors for our real issues. Yea, just another way of trying to get fear in the public to control the vote and forget about the economy, the war in Iraq, our decaying infrastructure, our lower test scores, our decreasing health, our lack of alternate energy sources.... Yea, let's blame an immigrant and then let's spin it by saying it's the liberals fault. But will this election rhetoric work?? Well, it has before. Can you say President Bush??? Best example of what preaching fear does for ya. And let's do it again.
Posted by: Roy | Aug 21, 2007 1:37:00 PM
Romney preaching fear just lowered his creditability a few points with me. I'm not gonna let any politician do that to me and I think the rest of us ought to also so we can get them to start talking REAL issues.
Posted by: Roy | Aug 21, 2007 1:41:39 PM
This is just like the Roe vs Wade crap. The repulicans used that to get elected. Then after they got control of the Whitehouse, the Congress and the Supreme Court, they didn't do anything about it. WHY??? Because than the issue would go away and they wouldn't have anything to run on.
Now the effectiveness of abortion has slowly disappeared.
Now they're getting on the immigration wagon so as to replace the abortion issue. They won't solve the problem here either because than the problem which they think will get them elected will go away and the reason to vote for 'em will disappear.
So let's really screw 'em up and vote on important issues that really mater. Then we might get some real relevant dialog going.

Who cares if Romney is a Mormon. I don't care if he worships rocks or trees. There's other issues at stake here.
We got a self professed Christian in the White House now and look what it got us.

Hillary Clinton is not from New York! She was born in Chicago in 1947 and spent the majority of her adult working life in Arkansas. I think this makes her a "carpetbagger!"
Posted by: Nick | Aug 21, 2007 1:58:28 PM
Don't think Hillary fits the description. But good try anyway....... Carpetbaggers were Northerners who moved to the South during Reconstruction between 1865 and 1877. They formed a coalition with Freedmen (freed slaves), and Scalawags (Southern whites) in the Republican Party, which in turn controlled ex-Confederate states for varying periods, 1867–1877.

As for the cutting of federal funding to sanctuary cities that harbor illegals that broke our laws, I'm all for it. Why should the taxpayer shoulder the costs of thses people coming here. To those of you who deride the American citizen who is unfortunately poor and "obviously" the cause of all of our crime, shame on you. What has Mexico done for the world save give us the taco and burrito. It is high time that corrupt government provide and decent standard of living and opportunities as found here in the US. Accepting their poor unconditionally only condones what they do, export their poor who send billions back into their economy and furtheraggravates the problem. Those of you who support their poor coming here illegally only further the vicious cycle of poverty, corruption, and exploitation. Our economy will not collapse without them here. You can't pay slave wages, have them live 9-10 in a house for 4-5, and say you are for their rights. I think it's only so yoy can continue to live your own lifestyle, and probably outside of your means..... I'm all for legal immigration. If sanctuary cities and their citizens want to pay for the illegals to be their, let them pay it themselves. I want my contribution to taxes to go to hardworking, unfortunate, and/or honest law-abiding Americans!
