Rough Flight, Congressman?
August 20, 2007 4:06 PM
ABC’s Dean Norland reports: Rep. Robert Filner, Democrat of California, has been charged with assault and battery after an altercation with an airline employee over his baggage Sunday evening at Dulles Airport.
According to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Filner, who is the chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, “allegedly attempted to enter an area authorized for airline employees only, pushed aside the employee’s outstretched arm and refused to leave the area when asked by an airline employee.”
Although Filner was interviewed by police at the airport and released, the airline employee chose to press charges later that evening. The charges amount to a Class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia and Filner is scheduled to appear in Loudoun County District Court on October 2.

This is not going to win him votes. He should ask former member of Congress Cynthia McKinney how these things work out.

This is obviously another Bush/Rove/Cheney/Halliburton/mostly Rove plot---what did Bush know and WHEN did he know it is my question. Where do Harry and Nancy stand on this? Isn't Bush content with all these hurricanes he's created? Now he has to engage persecution of this democrat---the airport employee was BEGGING for it.

Good thing it was a member of Congress. If it had been you or I, they would have tasered us until our hearts stopped and then made up some crap about how we were threatening them. Membership has its perks.

Arrogant idiot! Typical "it's good to be the King" mentality. Too bad they didn't drag him off to jail to cool off.

He should have remembered that as a Congressman, you can only assault police while IN D.C!!

The CDC says he was suffering from a lightheaded case of The Murtha Syndrome.

The Congressman was wrong, it is that simple. Had the employee failed to take action the employee would have been wrong, and could have lost job as a result. This congressman is an example of one of those arrogant asses who mistakenly thinks HE can do what he wants, wherever he wants, without the risk of consequences. It is good that the employee filed charges and hopefully the court will help Congressman Filmer to recognize the error of his ways.

I agree it's Bush's fault, can't wait for Hillary to win so no one is at fault.

I just want to point out that if this were a Republican congressman, this story would be on the front page with a flashing red sign on it. It would be the lead story for the nightly news (on all three) and there would be resignations called for. But, once again, the Dems are above the law. And they've got the MSM right in thier hip pocket.
Must be nice...

Zakk:
Well if you feel like that, then maybe you should become a democrat then......

A Democrat getting upset and venting hate and physical violence because he didn't get his way or in this case his luggage? This surprises you? We witness this everyday on this sight Democrats kicking and screaming like little children because they don't get what they want or are told NO once in a while. Democrats should have a show in primetime it would be a hit comedy..What a surprise they are not as perfect as they tell us they are..

Maybe this will help Congress's historically low approval rating, seeing a Congressman take SOME kind of action!! LOL

Oh great, another CA politican in trouble. First Duke Cunningham (couldn't have happened to a better person as far as I'm concerned). Ah, Filner, you should know better than to attempt to push yourself in where you aren't permitted. What kind of excuse do you have, huh? When I first heard of this I was a bit surprised. Another one from my county in San Diego. Who will be next? Could I offer a few suggestions, like the City Attorney maybe?

How does a politician believe they can do anything they want and then you call it a Bush conspiracy?
Here's an idea, read a book sometime instead of the diatribes listed in HRC's blog. Not everything is so black and white. So, when Hillary drove through the roadblock at JFK right after 9/11 the security force just heightened after the biggest terrorist attack on America ever! was a Bush/Cheny/Rove/(insert whatever R HRC has called a threat) plant just to descredit another democrat! Good plot for an action flick but not real life.
Resorting to that kind of political rhetoric is the reason American Politic are so divided. All politicians seem to lie, regardless of party stance, and is due to the nature of 21st century politics - spin, spin, spin.
Somehow we feel that elected officials became more than human when they took the oath of office. Humans make mistakes, period. It is us, the public, that control the government but we choose not to. Before blaming anyone on a Fedral level, we have to start with our local elected officials. Thats where the entire beuacracy begins. But we tend to ignore our local politics as somehow unimportant yet those impact us much more than Federal rulings.
But keep to your conspiracy theory and keep telling everyone 'the sky is falling', Chicken Little.
