ABC News' Jan Crawford Greenburg Reports:  With the impending departure of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, the White House is now looking for a replacement who will pass a Senate confirmation – a candidate who is highly regarded by Republicans, and respected by Democrats.

Several names have provided grist for the rumor mill, including:

Judge Laurence Silberman, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit

Theodore Olson, former Solicitor General; Washington, D.C. lawyer

George Terwilliger, former U.S. attorney and Deputy Attorney General under President George H.W. Bush; Washington, D.C. lawyer

Larry Thompson, former U.S. attorney and Deputy Attorney General under President George W. Bush; currently general counsel of PepsiCo

Michael Chertoff, Secretary, Department of Homeland Security

Paul Clement, Solicitor General

William Barr, former attorney general under President George H.W. Bush; general counsel of Verizon

Maybe now Bush will "get it". People don't want cronyism as the driving force in their government. He must change his mindset if he wants to leave any legacy other than that of stubborn incompetence. He should have listened more to Tony Snow and less to Karl Rove.
At least his Presidency will remove the Neocons from any future consideration as Presidential timber.

Homer Simpson?

Man,that's going to be a tough one. How does one replace a big crook like Gonzalez? I would think by now GWB's stash of crooked cronies is getting mighty sparse. Unless he has an extra stash hidden away in Texas somewhere that he will import to do his dirty work. He certainly has a bunch of good old boy crooked buddies to draw from.

One wonders more about what has been hidden and kept under a series of rocks, than the retirements of so many "associates" like Alberto Gonzales. Yes, it is good that cronyism is reduced, but how is the truth going to be revealed? Where's the leverage?

If Fitzgerald is appointed Attorney General, I'm going to start talking to myself. Seriously.
