Bush Sr.'s Video Message At McCain Rally
September 18, 2007 10:58 AM
ABC News' Bret Hovell and Jennifer Parker Report: Former President George H.W. Bush made a surprise video appearance at a rally held for Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain.
"I'm proud to be with you here at the 'No Surrender' rally at the Citadel," the former president said on a video played during the final event of McCain's 'No Surrender' tour at The Citadel in South Carolina.
"This is a fitting place to honor our troops and be the sponsor of the 'No Surrender' rally. I salute Senators McCain and (Lindsey) Graham for their sponsorship and for standing tall," Bush said on the video.
McCain has not invoked the name of the president on the campaign trail, though he is supporting Bush's call for a continued troop presence in Iraq.
During his video message, former President George H.W. Bush didn't offer any endorsement of McCain's '08 bid, but he did endorse the Arizona senator's Iraq policy.
"As the debate unfolds, you must listen to General Petreaus and those on the ground who are waging this war. The bottom line is we must persevere. We must not surrender. We must not quit. We must not run away. God bless our troops and everyone involved at the 'No Surrender' rally there in Charleston," Bush said.

When Romney heard about the senior Bush`s appearance at a McCain event, he accused the old guy of flip flopping for now supporting McCain. Others may have forgotten, Romney asserted, but he remembers the senior Bush supported Bush junior in 2,000, not McCain!
