Clinton: Respect for Troops, but Won't Comment on Move On Ad
September 15, 2007 1:35 PM
Senator Hillary Clinton said Saturday that she disagrees with Republican Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani when it comes to Iraq but she stopped short of disavowing a controversial ad by the liberal group MoveOn.org.
The full-page advertisement, which ran in Monday's New York Times, suggested that General David Petraeus could be called "General Betray Us".
"I made clear in my statement during the hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, my great respect for General Petraeus and his record of service to our country, including his service in a very difficult situation in Iraq. I think both he and I share a strong commitment to the young men and women who wear the uniform of the United States," Senator Clinton said on a conference call with reporters.
Giuliani has been complaining about the MoveOn ad for days and in his own web video advertisement released Friday Giuliani accused Clinton of "turning her back" on US troops and called on Clinton to condemn the "venemous" MoveOn.org ad.
"I have a disagreement with my Republican, um, opponents and with the President about what is the best direction for our country when it comes to Iraq," Clinton said in response, declining to name Giuliani. "And I have repeatedly urged that we begin to bring our troops home, starting now."
When pressed as to whether she thought MoveOn should not have run its advertisement, Clinton skirted the question: "Well, I have repeatedly not only expressed my strong admiration and support for our men and women in uniform, but with respect to General Petraeus, I have also made my respect for him abundantly clear and I think that speaks for itself."
The Clinton campaign also pointed out a report published on the website "Talking Points Memo" saying the web ad from the Giuliani campaign used General Petraeus' photo without his consent.
The Giuliani campaign quickly hit back. Deputy Communications Maria Comella issued the following statement: "It speaks volumes that Hillary Clinton wasn't concerned about the use of General Petraesus' photo when MoveOn.org used it to disgrace the American General's image. As if we needed further evidence she and her campaign just don't get it."

She hates pour military. She is the one who demanded to have uniformed military personnel leave the room before she entered it when her cheating husband was in office.
THAT is going to be our CIC? for America's sake, I surely hope not.

Hillary has too much money and support on the line to PO these extreme left wing groups. Expect alarming silence from her in response to many more disgusting personal attacks from MoveOn, DailyKos, and CodePink.
