Clintoncare Won't Cover Illegals

ABC News' Tahman Bradley Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said Sunday on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that her plan for universal health insurance will not cover the 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the United States.

"Illegal immigrants would not be covered," said Clinton. "No, they would not be covered. . . . We did not cover them in '93-'94 and my plan does not cover them now."

When asked six days ago if Clinton's health-care plan covers illegal immigrants, the senator's top health-care adviser said that she had not yet made that decision.

"That's one we're going to have to think through a little bit," said Clinton adviser Laurie Rubiner during a policy briefing with reporters.

Clinton's intention not to cover illegal immigrants stands in contrast with at least two of her Democratic presidential rivals.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd said at a July 23 debate sponsored by CNN and YouTube that illegal immigrants would be included in their plans for universal health insurance.

While Clinton would not include illegal immigrants in her insurance plan, they would continue to be eligible for certain health services.

"I will continue to have a safety net," said Clinton, "which I believe is in the best traditions of our country and, also, for public health reasons, absolutely necessary."

Senator Clinton's health care plan is a good start for the goal of everyone being health insured in America. We no longer can have empty debates, enough has been said on this important issue; what is needed is to stick with the goal and follow through a plan and make fine tuning along the way later.

Yeha and she also said she did not want to speculate on the war in Iraq and what she would do if President in 2008.

I guess " If Bush wont end this war If I am President I will"!

Doesnt qualify as speculation...

This woman changes her story by the minute.

Not a Presidential quality.

Of course illegals wont be covered. You have to prove you have insurence to get a job.

So they will all be made legal before the Health care bill passes.

The realities are that it is only possible to cut a national health care plan so many ways and that is why most of the Democratic plans read so similar. They all rely on tactical partnerships with the private sector, insurance companies and the rest of the medical-pharmaceutical complex to be an active principals in the plan. The closest plan that models the proposed Health Care Plans by the Democrats, is the Massachusetts Health Care Plan, which was carried out by a Republican Governor (Mitt Romney) and a Democratic Senator (Ted Kennedy) of a very blue state. According to the Heritage Foundation, the Massachusetts Health Care plan is a live and well, and meeting its targets to provide health insurance at lower insurance premiums. The shortage of doctors, nurses, affordable medical technology and pharmaceuticals will be solved by the free-market and not by Senator Clinton's health care plan. Currently the markets are experimenting with a market-based solutions to address this health providers shortage and affordability issue. We should see more retail medical centers in grocery stores and pharmacies to take on a greater capacity of more patients within the health care system in the future. . Lastly, the real elephant or donkey in the room, no pun intended, is Senator Hillary Clinton, while she was licking her wounds from the first failed attempted with health care, Mitt Romney and Ted Kennedy figured it out for the nation with the Massachusetts Health Care Plan. Senator Clinton should at least give credit where credit is due.

If Hillary's health care plan had been enacted in 94, this huge problem would have been worked out by now. However, the republicans chose to trash the woman just as they are doing now, with every talk show and FOX ranting about socialized medicine and spreading FEAR of Hillary. Just disgusting! I am a cancer survivor and if I want medical coverage it's $1,200 a month. What a joke!

"let em go to Cuba and get health care" Fred D Thompson snickering and waving around a lit cigar.

Will Clinton care cover abortions?

Senator Clinton is either naive or not forthcoming regarding health care coverage for illegal resident. As stated in my previous comment that may not be apparent to the reader, the market-based solutions of retail medical centers will take cash, so an illegal residents do not necessary need to have the health insurance to receive medical services. Under the Clinton or any other plan for that matter, illegal residents without insurance will still receive emergency medical care due to the legality and ethics of our system, and such cost will be passed on as it is today as a hidden cost. Secondly, the Richardson and Dodd plans are more responsible in accounting for the insurance cost of illegal residents. The Richardson and Dodd plans recognize the hidden costs under the rug and provide health insurance regardless of illegal status, which in return, gives transparency to the problem, just like the laws of the states that mandate all residents must have a driver licenses regardless of citizen status. This is not the only the responsible thing to do but it reduces this passed on cost to the insured. What the Richardson and Dodd camps are saying in effect, if you can count it or measure it, you cannot fix it and this problem must be solved by data driven solutions not the politics of convenience.

Since she's not going to cover illegals, then she needs to change the number of uninsured people in this country - by several million.

Why does Hillary deliberately step all over the poorest workers who are just trying to survive in America?

Posted by: Undocumented Democrats | Sep 24, 2007 1:10:36 PM

Why should we have to even consider covering illegals much as I hate it they do come here under duress and work hard (some yes, are criminals and commit crimes here)and they are doing what anyone would do to keep from starving: cross the border. We need to get tough with MEXICO because keeping people poor IS a REAL form of yes, TERRORISM, ok? So no revolution no change, we do biz w Mexico and nothing changes. The real issue is why are we two faced, letting them work yet making feeble attempts to "keep them from coming" Yeah right. We need to tell the powers that be in MEXICO to step up to the plate in this century and take CARE of the people. Not allow US to do it. People of Mexico, you need to get this gov't overthrown, seriously, a LONG time coming...Americans fought the bloody British and they were in rags, come on, why support Free Trade with a country that impoverishes their people and keeps them down, for decades, for centuries, where is OUR "head" at in this, oh yes, it's in using the labor but bellyaching about the illegals. We are so complicit and so wrong.

I recently found out that you really do not need health insurance as an American. If you have a medical problem get yourself arrested. In jail and in prison the inmates and prisoners get the top of the line health care for free.

For example they receive:
medical care
laboratory services
psycological care
dental care
x-rays
ekg's
mri's
dialysis
hospital care in and out of jail or prison
medications

You name it they are entitled to it.

It's the law.
