Giuliani: Clinton Health Care Plan is a "Clear March Toward Socialized Medicine"
September 17, 2007 5:51 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Rudy Giuliani joined the ranks of candidates running for president quick to jump on Sen Hillary Clinton's D-N.Y., universal health care plan, unveiled today.
The former mayor of New York commented to reporters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida that the plan was " essentially the Michael Moore-Hillary Clinton approach which is let's see if we can build socialized medicine. " Giuliani reacted to the requirement under Clinton's plan that everyone should have health insurance saying, "The idea that you are going to mandate people and command them to have health insurance immediately begins to increase the cost of insurance and decrease quality. "
Calling the details of Senator Clinton's plan "still sketchy", Giuliani questioned how enforcement of that requirement would be put into place, "Is there going to be a tax, a fine, a penalty?"
Offering his own plan Giuliani countered, "Let's not have Hillary Care or Hillary in charge of our health care…..My approach is to encourage people to buy their own health insurance and we'd give them a big tax deduction if they do that. Create incentives for people who buy health insurance, don’t command them to do that."
The mayors plan would give people a 15,000 tax deduction to purchase their own insurance. Anything leftover they would keep as part of a health savings account

Doesn't matter, if a democrat draws the plan the rich will benefit and the poor/minority will get it free and the ever working middle class (who by the way have a health ins plan)will end up paying the tab !!!

Rudy's plan is, "you pay for it outright, maybe you'll get some back at tax-time". How "SKETCHY" is that?

Can Rudy do anything but criticize Hillary? Does the man have an original thought?............... short of some sexual deviation regarding some woman way younger, and of course not married, to him. The man is a flake!!!!

The other day it was Mitt Romney picking on Hillary's health care plan - now it's Rudy. They are obviously scared of Hillary. They don't have anything else to run on so, they attack her. This is not socialized medicine! EVERY AMERICAN has the right to health care, police protection, fire department, good roads, good schools, etc. This is something (like schools and police protection) that should fall under the government since obviously the current plan (regarding health ins.) IS NOT WORKING!!!!!!! For those of us who do have health insurance, the premiums are outrageous and go up every year while the benefits are going down. It is disgraceful that a country like The United States of America has so many uninsured. I don't mind my tax dollars contributing to programs like this. Health care is a necessary as being able to enroll your child in public school. This country is years behind. I would rather my tax dollars (which aren't going down anyway) pay for something like this rather than senseless, stupid wars or pensions and great health care for congresss for life, etc.

Hey Rudy - we all know that Republicans and conservatives could care less about the uninsured or healthcare for all in this country. But tell me - how are the millions of minimum wage earners going to buy insurance when they can't even afford cars or car insurance? We have to have a mix of govt and private insurance in order for this to work. Americans - don't let the Republicans stop healthcare again!! It will only get much worse

It doesn't matter. The working class will always get screwed. The only thing the Democrats or Republicans are concerned with is big business, big money, money in their pocket, the wealthy ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. The middle class has taken it long enough. Neither party either undestands or just don't care. They have forgotten all principals, for which they were elected. "To promote the general wellfare and common defense foriegn and domestic". We have not one STATESMAN in our government. I'm sick and tired that illegal aliens, foreign governments the wealthy and the poor ( lazy people that sponge off the rest of us, who work the system )not the real desrveing poor, & the rich get all the breaks. And you know I'm right. If you don't agree then you must be one of the above. The middle class is going to be fighting back. Republicans do you remember the last election. The Democrats have forgotten it already. They don't gety it either. It's not the far left it's not the far right. It's middle class, prarie states moderate people. Take care of them and we all flourish. Take care of the rest & we'll all fail. By now you still probably don't get it. The middle class pay for everything and get nothing in return. The Government could regulate the medical industry as well as the pharmaceutical companies but they won't because the government is bought and paid for by them. Not One government official will call the kettle black because if they're not the kettle then they're the cast iron frying pan. Get It !!! Probably not, but ask the middle class, they'll agree.

Mandatory health insurance? Who could be for that? Tax incentives to motivate and help offset the cost is fine, but when government starts mandating, I say run for cover. The government also mandates eye exams for contact wearers every 12 months. My prescription hasn't changed in more than 5 years, yet every year I have to pay the bucks to get an exam. This new world we live in is becoming a nightmare of "we know what's good for you, so do it." I say stay the helll out of my business and stop acting like an overbearing parent.

I guess my question would be what is Giuliani's idea for health care..I haven't heared him or any of the other candidates come up with anything on this issue...they need to back off and shut up until they have a plan...
