Giuliani Marks First 9/11 Ceremony as GOP Candidate
September 11, 2007 10:52 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: The former Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, alongside his wife, Judith Giuliani, marked his first 9/11 memorial ceremony as a presidential candidate.
In an extremely brief statement before a crowd of victims' family members and others, a somber Giuliani said, "On this day six years ago and on the days that followed, in the midst of our great grief and turmoil, we also witnessed uncompromising strength and resilience as a people. It was a day with no answers, but with an unending line of those who came forward to try to help one another."
Watch video from the ceremony HERE.
He chose a very short reading by Elie Wiesel, quoting, "I have learned two lessons in my life: first, there are no sufficient literary, psychological, or historical answers to human tragedy, only moral ones. Second, just as despair can come to one only from other human beings, hope, too, can be given to one."
The mayor concluded by saying, "God Bless America."
The former mayor has made an appearance at each 9/11 ceremony since the tragedy in 2001. But this year, as a presidential candidate, Giuliani has come under heat from some who believe he is exploiting the national tragedy for campaign gain.
One of the mayors chief critics, FDNY Deputy Chief Jim Riches put out a statement saying, "He's runnin' on his 9/11 leadership and it was lacking and there was none. And he's not the hero of 9/11. The 9/11 heroes all died that day tryin' to help people. His leadership is horrible. He just lies, and when you do find out more about him you won't vote for him."
Giuliani responded in advance of some criticism last Wednesday at the Republican debate, saying, "The reality is that I'm not running on what I did on Sept. 11."

Nice Nightline Hit Piece on Giuliani...
Does ABC employ fact checkers or ever try to present a balanced report? 4 against 1 - is that fair?
One former Giuliani person (who- surprise, surprise is now a Hillary supporter) claims that Giuliani didn't have the radios work among first responders in 2001 or in 1993. But, do they work today in 2007? NO...
One "expert" claims that Giuliani couldn't get elected dog-catcher on 9/10/01. So, why then did Bloomberg (a life-long Democrat) run as a Republican for mayor? Perhaps because Giuliani could get him elected?????
Come on Cynthia McFadden, get a clue!

There he is... still exploiting the tragedy of 911 after all these years for his own selfish political gain!

Truth is, Giuliani wouldn't stand a chance against Hillary or Obama.
We (the GOP) need a foreign policy shift and a new message of hope this election or we'll simply pass the White House into the Dems hands.
