Giuliani Takes On New York Times, MoveOn.org and Clinton

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has submitted an ad to the New York Times in which he accuses Democrats of orchestrating an attack on the commander of US forces in Iraq General David Petraeus.

The ad features a tiny screen grab of the original Move On ad which ran in the Times on Monday and then lists General Petreaus's accomplishments. It ends with the fiery quote by Giuliani "These times call for statesmanship, not politicians spewing political venom."

At a campaign stop at the "OK Diner" in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, Giuliani blasted the New York Times in response to a report suggesting the anti-war advocacy group MoveOn.org was given a discounted rate by the paper to run their ad attacking Petraeus.

The former New York Mayor is calling on the New York Times to give him a discounted rate for his own ad, on the day that he chooses.  Giuliani said he'd like to collect on his discounted ad Friday, to follow up on the president's address to the nation on Iraq.

Watch the video HERE.

"We're going to call upon the New York Times to give us the same rate, heavily discounted rate that they gave MoveOn.org for that abominable ad that was very very coincidentally published on the day that Gen Petraeus testified," Giuliani said.

"I believe the NY times should give us the same discounted rate, and the same ability to place it on the day we want to place it, which is tomorrow morning on the day following the presidents speech, that they've to the very accessible left wing side of this view.

Giuliani also called on Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., to apologize for what he calls a "character assassination" due to political zeal from her "willing suspension of disbelief" comments to Petraeus.

He also called for MoveOn.org and the New York Times to apologize.

"MoveOn.org, well-known for its character assassinations on Republicans, decided to participate in a character assassination to an American General. This is unprecedented, and we are going to ask the New York Times to allow us tomorrow to put an ad that will obviously take the opposite view," he said.

Rudy, how dare you try to enforce a "fairness doctrine."
Fuhgeddaboudit, you're not getting the "family discount" for your political ad.
In other news, NYT's circulation and stock price continue to decline.

Good for Rudy, God knows the Liberal wouldn't and for that you all will see at least another 4 more years of a republican for president, Hilary or Obama will not make it, and will not make a good leader if they can't show enough respect for a high ranking General to denounce MoveOn.losers for their treason act

All the smaaaaties at Move On should keep running the ad to insure that the Democrats lose in '08. You think Americans like to read that crap? You do, don't you. And that's why you are on course to self destruct in '08. It's all good. Run it again, fellas, you got your finger on the "pulse" as they say. LOL! You got America all figured out. "The pulse! Boss, we got it all figured out, Boss!" You can't make this stuff up.

Let's stop pushing this fiasco on the Democrats or any other person other than Bush. We must support our troops because they must listen to their commander. We should not be there but he got us into this. We cannot pull out because we destroyed any form of government (however corrupt it was) that offered any stability to that area. We must now pay for the srupidity of the American public that put him in office.

I wonder where Rudy was when Swift Boat came into play. I heard NOBODY on the right speak up when that went down.

Democrats will not denounce MoveOn or any other psycho liberal organization b/c they want their money too much. They would rather trade their patriotism for $$$.

Until Giuliani apologizes for the lies that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that Saddam had something to do with 9/11 or that he denounces actions by the current administration to trample the US Const. or apologizes for damage done to first responders he should keep his hypocrical mouth shut.

Rudy Giuliani is no hero.
While he is often called the hero of 9/11, the truth is that Rudy was a terrible leader during his years as mayor of New York City.
He made bad decisions and took a girlfriend while being married.
In fact, he even wanted his lover to live in the same house with his wife.
Most people would call this perverted.
New Yorkers were so sick of his antics, that they wanted him out of office.
Then came 9/11.
The only reason people call Giuliani a hero today, is because he just happened to be NYC's mayor during that bad time.
Any mayor would be looked at as a hero if they showed their face under those circumstances.
If there was no 9/11, Rudy would have become a joke.
This is not the kind of leader we want in the White House.
In closing, the New York Post reported in their paper on April 23, that Giuliani spent more than $48,000 dollars of campaign money on posh hotels while claiming to have spent the least of all the Republican candidates.
Rudy is a good time leader, and does it with other people's money.

America's "free press" has never been more corrupt liberal and wolfpack like in the entire history of this nation.

If there is ONE person still out there who doesn't think for one minute that we have a serious problem with our Main Stream Media and their new little pals in the Netroots, far left-wing hate groups associated closely with the Democrat Party.

It's the NEW AXIS OF EVIL........ MSM, Democrat Party, and hateful Netroots.

The corruption and daily liberal propaganda in America's press can only be compared in history to the German press of the late 1930's.

Where am I wrong?

Of course, the Savior of NYC wouldn't be complaining to the Times if his team had managed to get the same deal.

To Republicans: What makes you ASSUME that EVERYONE affiliated w/MoveOn.org is a DEMOCRAT?!?! I AM affiliated w/them, but am NOT EITHER a Democrat NOR a Republican!!! I joined, JUST to help DO THE RIGHT THING for the sake of EVERYONE in this country!!!!!!!

Can troops really be any smarter than their leadership?

Moveon.org is the guerrilla arm of the progressive movement. Kudos to them for challenging the Republicans on their own turf (the mud puddle).

RUDY HAS MY VOTE! GO RUDY!!!

Posted by: Betty | Sep 13, 2007 9:57:05 PM

The fact that the NYT gave this bunch a discount of $116K or so says it all. The fact that Hillary and Obama didn't have the guts to comdemn this piece of garbage ad says a lot about them, and who is financing them. When moveon.org obtains the government it is looking for, there will be no freedom of the press or anything else for that matter...and we're seeing the beginnings of it right here and now.

Move on spoke the truth. Oh, sure, the guys a general, there is no way he could bend the truth or mislead the public. Please. Every other general who spoke the truth got sent off. The general sent the message Bush wanted to hear. It is clear none of you neo-con hate mongers even read the ad. Why republicans are so hell bent on destroying America is beyond me.

Any of you right wing haters wanna spew your bile at the two soldiers who were recently killed who had written the article opposing the surge? They gave their life for this B.S. Wanna call them traitors?

Posted by: Kevin | Sep 13, 2007 10:15:41 PM

I tell ya, the situation in Iraq keeps calling for someone to press the "W" key while the republicans keep hammering away at the "M" key. Guess we know why.

I think Guiliani should quit worrying about defending Generals, who probably know a heck of a lot more about defending themselves than he does, and quit messing around with the NY Times. If he's not careful they just might dig up the stories buried in their archives about his draft dodging tactics, womanizing, crooked pals appointed to office, and living with his gay pals between divorces, and yes, they are in the NYT's as well as Gotham Gazette and Village Voice archives. Just the kind of man the Republicans need.
