MoveOn's Challenge to Clinton and Obama
September 14, 2007 1:36 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports:
MoveOn.org is throwing down the gauntlet.
The powerful liberal advocacy group is making it known in no uncertain terms what it will expect from Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., when it comes to the Iraq war.
Eli Pariser, the group's executive director, told ABC News on Friday that MoveOn.org will expect Clinton and Obama to once again vote against any Iraq war funding that does not include a timeline for withdrawal.
What's more, this time, MoveOn.org wants the top Democratic presidential contenders to speak out "sooner and more vocally."
"People are looking for leadership," said Pariser. "People are happy that they voted against a blank check last time. This time, we want them to speak out sooner and more vocally."
On May 24, Clinton and Obama both voted against a war funding bill that did not contain timetables for the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
They were criticized, however, by former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., a Democratic presidential rival, for not discussing the vote before it was cast.
MoveOn.org's challenge to Clinton and Obama came on the same day that it launched a new television ad.
Having scored enormous free media coverage for the Petraeus/Betray-Us ad which ran Monday in The New York Times, MoveOn.org announced Friday that it is launching a television ad accusing President Bush of betraying the nation.
"Before the surge, George Bush had 130,000 troops stuck in Iraq," says the narrator of the new ad. "Americans had elected a new Congress to bring them home. Instead, Bush sent 30,000 more troops. Now he's making a big deal about you guessed it . . . pulling out 30,000. So, next year, there will still be 130,000 troops stuck in Iraq. George Bush. A Betrayal of Trust."
MoveOn.org is spending $9,000 to air the ad on Washington, D.C. cable. It is spending an additional $51,000 to air the ad on CNN nationwide. The ad will run from Sept. 17-21.

Democrats are in a SAFE zone right now... they can cast a NO vote and get away with it since they know they cant get enough Repub votes to override a veto... BUT They CANT hide from all the left wing extremist questions... COME ON BILLARY Speak Up.. YOU AND OBAMA both know that you would be doing the same thing as Bush is if you were Pres right now. You Know we cant just pull out...... Of course you can run your mouth right now and say anything to get votes and not have to prove a d-a-r-n thing

Nobody is pulling out completely as we need to try and stabilize the country and reap some oil on the way out. You need diplomacy and bring in area nations, sadly, not the path the bushbaby cheeny crowd or abc and the MAINSCREAM shills have smooched up for us all. I say they get more war before less war, and the MAINSCREAMS will promote all the speakers to this end they can find. There is plenty of BETRAYUS to go around...

In a December 9th, 2004 e-mail signed by Eli Pariser, Justin Ruben, and the whole MoveOn PAC team, the Soros front group stated: “In the last year, grassroots contributors like us gave more than $300 million to the Kerry campaign and the DNC, and proved that the Party doesn't need corporate cash to be competitive. Now it's our Party: we bought it, we own it, and we're going to take it back.”

I would hope that the Democratic Candidates now running for President cast a no no matter how symbolic it appears to be at least they can stand together on the main fact -- Bush is letting a small amount of troops home because their rotation is up -- no more no less If Bush were in a coma the troops no matter how would come home. Let us not see our Democratic and Republican Senators and Representatives share that same coma --

Bush HAS been in a "coma".

I have concluded that Petraeus and even Casey have become lap dogs for Bush. He may as well be sitting behind them with his hand up their back moving their lips.
Of course if they disagree with the great dissillusioned one, they will be canned swiftly. Remember, he is the decider...
HOW WAS HE ELECTED TWICE?

Because there are more sane people than people like yourself who don't baselessly assail the integrity of U.S. officers simply because they may disagree with one's position.

John Edwards gave a great speech after Bush's speech this past week. Edwards, once again, showed why he is the only true leader in the Democratic Party. He called for a political solution to the Iraq crisis, and spoke about withdrawing 40,000-50,000 troopsimmediately. To quote John Edwards, "When the president asks for more money and more time, Congress needs to tell him he only gets one choice: a firm timeline for withdrawal. No timeline, no funding. No excuses."
