The only thing scarier than another Bin Laden tape are the responding comments from jingoistic right wing nuts who want to do things like start posses. AL Qaeda could never do the damage to the US that the neocons have done to us. In just a few short years we have gone from being the "light on the hill" to being occupiers and torturers - the brave Americans who died for the true meaning of this country must be spinning in their graves.

I continue to find it fascinating that every time one of these 'tapes' is released, one of two _private_ US organizations are always the one's to leak the information to abcnews. Nobody in the public can seem find these tapes on the Internet, heck, abcnews can't even find them. Just these two US based organzations amazingly come up with the information every time (which ABCNEWS gives credit to for tipping them off).

I think this is clearly a sign that these tapes are byproducts of the US government/military propaganda machine. The neo-conservatives desperately want to expand their war into Iran, and the duping tactics they used to trick the US into agreeing ot the war in Iraq are being put to use again. What worries me is the nuclear weapons that were shipped on an Air Force jet 'by accident' this week. Remember that story? I hope some member of the military, sympathetic to the neo-conservative cause, didn't hijack one of these weapons in a ploy to frame Iran for something that would give the neo-cons their cause for expanding the war to the rest of the middle east.

We as American citizens need to demand that our government come clean about what it's up to. News organizations need to VERIFY the information they are fed, instead of believing everything the government says, let alone what a private organization might tell them.

This portrayal is mirrored for Americans in general, by decrying the inability to oust Bush in 04 (recall that shortly prior to the election, a similar tape was released).

The net effect of this rhetoric is to strengthen Republicans and weaken Democrats.

I fail to see the difference between the talking points of Bin Laden and the talking points of the American Democratic Party. It's as if they are reading the same play book.

The reason Bin Laden crashed those airplanes into the Twin Towers was to goad the US into a quagmire in Afghanistan. I think he was sorely surprised about effortlessly his cohorts and the Taliban were routed. Bin Laden's plan is to first: unseat what he considers the corrupt leaders in his corner of the world and push the US and other western powers out of the region. Secondly: establish a caliphate from Morocco to India. Thirdly, dominate the rest of the world by intimidating Europe and isolating the US. Bin Laden and those with like minds are perfectly capable of the most heinous acts of terror to pursue what they think is God's will. They are perfectly willing to die for their cause - in fact, they look forward to dying for their cause as long as they get the chance to take their enemies with them. This mindset makes it impossible to negotiate or reach a fair understanding. They have given us no choice but to get them before they get us. This conflict is going to last for decades. It is a generational problem. The US and its allies will prevail and defeat Islamic Fundamentalist Facism just like it defeated Communism and the fascists of the 20th century. But, it is not going to be easy and it is not going to be cheap - either in terms of blood or treasure. I am afraid, however, that most Americans will not fully understand this threat until they hit us again. Its almost like Al Quaeda will have to detonate a nuclear device in Manhattan for most Americans to wake up and understand we are at war and have been for at least twenty years with these people.
