Obama Camp: Jackson's Son Crafted Obama Response to Jena 6
September 19, 2007 5:28 PM
ABC News' Jonathan Greenberger reports: The campaign of Sen Barack Obama continues to respond vigorously to reports that Rev Jesse Jackson accused Obama of "acting like he's white" in his response to the racially-charged "Jena 6" case.
After first sending around a statement by Jackson reaffirming his support of Obama, the Obama campaign released a statement late this afternoon from the Illinois senator himself saying the "Jena 6" case transcends racial politics.
"Outrage over an injustice like the Jena 6 isn't a matter of black and white," said Obama.
The campaign then noted that Obama received help on his initial response to Jena 6 from one of his national campaign chairmen -- who just happens to be Jackson's son: Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.

This is almost as entertaining as Jackson lecturing Bush on "legitimacy" in 2001--with the news of Jesse's love child fresh on the airwaves.

It is a sad state od affairs when black leaders undermine each other in the press. I guess the divide and conquer rule is still alive and well.

Jesse Jackson became irrelevant many years ago to the US race relation debates.
He continues to frame issues in the context of his past and has failed to keep up with the changing state of affairs in this country.
At this point, I see him as nothing more than an old man trying to hang on to some former, perceived glory and to try to drag Obama into a "black/white" issue is pointless.
The country is trying to move on...all of us...black, white, yellow, purple.
If Jesse has his way, he'd continue to divide this nation because it suits his power agenda.

I agree everyone and everything has it cycle and it's obama's time let him shine. He's very qualified to lead this country and not just another leader making a symbolic run at the white house but someone with a actual chance to win. I live in chicago and I know Jesse Jr considered running so this steals his thunder. If Jesse Sr is a true disciple of Martin luther King then, Love not hate on a brother Rev. Al if you want what is right them don't hate appreciate. It hurt me a Black man that Magic Johnson's having fund rasiers for Hiliary Clinton we need to wake up.

But isn't Hilary Clinton the wife of the first "Black-at-heart" President of The United States: BILL CLINTON ?
Or was the first "Black-at-heart" President of The United States JOHN F. KENNEDY ?
What about HARRY TRUMAN ?
Then there's FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT ?
And who can forget ABRAHAM LINCOLN ?
IF ELECTED, OBAMA WILL BE THE FIRST 1/2 "BLACK" PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
OR SHOULD I SAY 1/2 "WHITE" PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES ?

I think we should all be thankful for OBAMA we have to remember there is no color on the world needs. It's about fulfilling the people needs. Having a man that's committed to making America a better place for everyone no matter what color they are, it is truly a blessing from GOD. I think that Jesse should be giving OBAMA support instead of criticize.

Being apart of the black community, I feel it is necessary to back up these young men in Jena.
We must move forward and not let this unequal racism take us back to what once was. We need to stick together as a community to stop this nonsense. There are more devastating and detrimental situations that need our undivided attention.
The judge who initially decided on this unreasonable sentence, needs a reality check and a class in anger management and/or step down from the position he currently holds because he has lost site of the objective.
Obama needs to tip lightly and focus on problematic situations of ALL people. 'Pick your battles', Obama. Never leave the door open for question as to whom you are working for.
Thanks,
NJ

Jesse Jackson marched back in the days when there was no equal to whites. I think this just takes him back. You can forget someone calling you names but spitting, beating, and slandering is America....

We all appreciate what obama stands for.The rev Jesse jackson should shut up and leave obama alone, obama is an able leadr who knows how to deal with racial issues in afriendly manner.we all pray for him to bring change to america not neccessarily as a president but as a senator at the moment.

I am praying for all of the leaders of this nation. I do hurt when we as African American people hate on each other in public or private. We have never allowed our own to have their own opinions about anything. For Rev. Jackson to sully the name of Mr. Obama in that way is embarrassing to me as an African American woman. I have yet to hear Rev. Sharpton or Rev. Jackson say anything negative about each other in public (one can only wonder what is said the privacy of their own homes)I do believe that if you will say anything nasty about anyone in public, you will say or think it in private. Let's just continue to pray and seek God for advice on life not man.

All I have 2 say is although that was wrong what Rev Jackson said about Obama, with the same token maybe hes finally feeling like its time now 2 really step up 2 the plate with more agression.Over the years since Huey Newton and all of them been gone Jessie & Al Sharpton havent done as near as much as the Roudy Civil Rights leaders who were willing 2 risk their life behind equality, so maybe now Jessie might be using his final years 2 pay back what he didnt do and that is 2 be more Radical about injustice done Everywhere * Jena* .Maybe its finally hitting home 4 everybody that racism is a fact of life When u look at it theyre r our only Government for the african american community has 2 support us. So I say its good that atleast hes taking a more effective approach by not sitting on his behind doing nothing, Hes getting this CASE exposed and 4 that I commend him finally my question is what took him so long- Maybe this will unify the ppl, it should bring blacks and whites and all nationalities closer until then There wont be closure with these Oppressors doing this and getting away with it.Be blessed everybody!winks!

I believe that this case does indeed transcend racial lines. You have to understand that if race can be used to imprison some one. Then your gender, financial status, sexual orientation and anything else you can think of may be used against you. Everything is not always black and white.
