Obama pledges no compromise on timetable
September 17, 2007 3:42 AM
ABC News' Jonathan Greenberger reports: Sen. Barack Obama vowed Sunday night in Iowa that he will refuse to support any troop funding bill that lacks a specific timetable for withdrawal from Iraq.
“If there is a funding bill that does not have a timetable for when we begin withdrawal, and the completion -- a plan for how that withdrawal will proceed -- I will not support it,” said Obama during a wide-ranging foreign policy discussion at Des Moines’ First Christian Church.
Earlier on Sunday, at the Harkin Steak Fry in Indianola, Ia., Obama also promised to work to prevent such bills from becoming law.
“We are going to bring an end to this war and I will fight now in the United States Senate to make sure that we don’t pass any funding bill that does not have a deadline to start bringing our troops out,” said Obama.
In so specifically disavowing any such bill, Obama may put himself at odds with some of the Senate’s Democratic leadership, which has talked recently about compromising with Republicans and removing a concrete timetable from the funding bill.
But Obama’s statement also comes after many of the more liberal members of his party put pressure on him and Democratic frontrunner Sen. Hillary Clinton to be more clear about their opposition to a compromise.
“People are looking for leadership," said MoveOn.org Executive Director Eli Pariser to ABC News on Friday. "People are happy that they voted against a blank check last time. This time, we want them to speak out sooner and more vocally."

Someone forget to tell Obama he's irrelevant. He raises more money than Clinton yet can't gain a percentage in the polls. His whole campaign is flawed and going nowhere fast. ABC - anyone But Clinto, But NOT Obama.

I have been greately impressed by Obama's foreign policy coz i don't understand the reason as to why even our troops went to iraq,it was coz of Bush's personal agenda that he really sent American troops to iraq. Can you imagine how much America has spent in iraq yet pur fellow Americans who were affected by katrina are suffering locally, and alot of people are too poor in especially the blacks, latinos and others i think those billions spent in Iraq would have been diverted to assit those suffering Americans,so when men like obama come and say abput removing th troops from Iraq they ave already won the vote. Please vote for obama he is capable to bring afundermantal change in America,s politics.

Obama lead the U.S.A.? His wife calls all the shots in his own home! As for HER or Oprah making the right decisions for him? Trust me, they just care about the African-Americans.

HRC is hosting a lunch for lobbyists today. Imagine that! Says one thing and does another. Don't only get lunch.
They get to go to breakout sessions with members of Congress who sit on Homeland Security committees. Let's buy a little access. Sounds like the Bushies all over again.

One should always be wary of any cantidate, be they democrat or republican, who is unwilling to compromise. This is a serious flaw in any leader.
