Rep. Ron Paul Online King?
September 26, 2007 2:36 PM
ABC News' Jacqueline Klingebiel Reports: Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, is developing a reputation for having the most ardent online backers of any presidential candidate.
"There is Ron Paul and there is everyone else," said Blue State Digital's Macon Phillips whose clients include the Democratic National Committee. "He is crushing it in some very narrow channels online."
At a Wednesday conference on "New Media and the 2008 Campaign," representatives from four campaigns were asked by Politico.com's Ben Smith, the panel's moderator, if their candidate would consider reaching out to Paul's on-line backers.
"I hate to say anything about Ron Paul supporters because -- " said Jon Henke, who handles New Media engagement for Fred Thompson. At this point, Smith interjected, saying, "Your email and your blackberry will shut down?"
The audience, which was familiar with the intensity of Paul's online support, broke into knowing laughter as Henke said, "Yeah, right."
The "Paulites," as they have dubbed themselves, have made their presence known in online ballots.
Even though Paul trails in public opinion surveys, he regularly comes out on top of on-line ballots where a small but devoted group of followers can sway the outcome.
In an online ballot held following ABC News' Aug. 5 Iowa debate, Paul crushed all of his GOP rivals.
This online ballot stood in marked contrast with a pre-debate ABC News survey of Iowa Republican caucusgoers which found Paul in eighth place with only two percent support.

Paul has raised more than $370,000 on his website during the past two days, and probably at least that much earlier this month in an online fund-raising promotion tied to Constitution Week. He has nearly 50,000 activists in more than 900 MeetUp groups around the country, and is regularly (as in weekly) drawing crowds in the 1,200 - 1,500 range at rallies in every region of the country. The so-called "scientific" polls don't tell the whole story. His Q3 fundraising total will be a number to watch.

Yeah yeah yeah... We "crazy Paul supporters" always spamming poll after poll. Does anyone realize you'd have to empty cookies from your browser in order to vote more than once in online polls? I participate in online polls every once in a while, and I've never once done that. It might get a bit time-consuming, don't you think?
Oh, and we also voted Mr. Paul the winner of the Fox News debate, which Hannity tried to dismiss as "crazy Paul supporters" voting over and over. Too bad he didn't mention you could only vote ONCE.
The fact of the matter is, the mainstream Republican candidates are utterly TERRIFIED of the support Mr. Paul is receiving. 'Cause they know it's not coming from the party's relatively small base. It's coming from people who have never voted Republican before, and from people who aren't registered as Republicans but tend to vote that way (people like myself).
Traditional polling isn't accurate at all anymore, either. Most younger people I know have one of those new-fangled cell phone thingies, not a land-line--so they're left out of traditional polls. That also explains Mr. Paul's strength in various straw polls but not so-called "national" polls, and it's why the GOP will do ANYTHING to marginalize his success.
Too bad for them--we're smart...

Gregg88998's comments on scientific polls are very accurate. Studies show that as 15-20% of the population uses a cell phone only. Additional people use Voice-Over-IP which would also not be eligible for the polls. Also, anybody who works during regular business hours on weekdays is not eligible. Nor is anybody who hangs up on unsolicited phone commercial phone calls or who maintains an unlisted number. The selection for "scientific" polls is FAR from scientific!

He's over $380,000 now.... and the above statements describe me. 31/ Independent with Rep tendencies but getting more Libertarian by the second/No land line only a cell phone. Yet I am a real person who will vote for this guy in the general election even if he loses the GOP nomination. I am sick to death of way both parties are behaving, our system needs an overhaul.

Ok 40 minutes later and he has $10,000 more in the bank. If he keeps up at this pace he will have well over one million in a less than week.

"Small but dedicated"
Nice choice of smear. Seriously though he has 50,000 VOLUNTEERS nationwide, thats not to mention people who just like him.

I'm no "Paulite"..I am a REAL person who only wants the "Right man for the job" and to me and a growing amount of people, that man is Ron Paul. He says what he means, and means what he says. Too bad the major news channel are too afraid to show more of him, wouldn't want to tap into their profits! So much hypocricy and manipulation in this country..Ron Paul can't even get the coverage and respect he deserves...shame,shame

We must get Ron Paul into the White House or forever regret it...This Country is turning into a police state and all the pieces are in place for a dictatorship to follow...I see more and more True Americans taking a stand and are willing to fight for our freedoms which are outlined by our Constitution...Americans are alive and well and we are here to stay!! Go Ron Paul 2008~!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to break it to you beautiful MSM. You guys must be the worst reporters of all time.
Look at the facts, look at the love, look at the passion. People in this campaign are crazy over basic consitutional freedoms that radical people have taken away from us!!
Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul
He endorsed Ronald Reagan in 1976 when nobody really wanted to. now what

Hate to break it to anyone skeptical of these numbers, but this isn't a group of cyber-punks, this is Americans. Ron Paul isn't spouting radical ideas either, he's merely saying what a lot of people want to hear right now. There are powers that want him to be marginalized, because he doesn't represent special interest...he represents the constitution. Skewing these results to say that Guliani is leading or Romney is leading, is exactly the opposite...misleading. News sources keep conducting polls and keep getting upset that they see Ron Paul in the lead. You have to ask yourself, why?

Our Marion County Florida Ron Paul Meetup Group now has the following demographics:
-Five local county participation.
-Registered Republican voters who have switched from the Constitution, Conservative, Democratic, Reform and Libertarian parties.
-Age range at our last Meetup: 18 years to one 94 year old. Hardly a handfull of cyber wieners. Average age: 50.
So please stop with the "very small band of enthusiastic young people".

Unfortunately, "he who slings the first mud wins", and the corporate press has fired the first salvo. Ron Paul is the leading online candidate precisely because the Internet is practically the last public forum that has not been completely usurped by corporate America. The efforts of the mainstream press to marginalize Dr. Paul while ignoring the huge number of citizens from all walks who fervently support him have increased in direct proportion to the perceived threat he poses to the criminal cartel that runs this country. Dr. Paul's simple and eminently workable plan to return our country to its former glory by re-establishing the constitutional rights and protections which make such possible is no doubt at odds with the “kleptocracy” that both parties have pawned off as a representative form of government for the past 50 years.

As of 4:45pm, Paul's website shows the contributions at $448,000+. Spammers? Compare this to Huckabees failure to get $2.500 yet on his web site. Does McCain have as much money as Paul? NO.
In a head to head tally of all straw polls across the country so far, Paul is the clear winner. Yet he's being practically ignored by the mainstream media. But that's OK, victory will be all the sweeter.

Correction, should have been $488,000+. Actually as I write this it's over $490,000!
Posted by: Mitch C | Sep 27, 2007 4:54:29 PM
He just broke $500,000 and reset it for a new goal to beat 1 mill. He met his goal faster than Obama!
Posted by: MAX | Sep 27, 2007 5:20:52 PM
Well he broke 1 million in 6 days ABC! These are online donations, from broke regular people like me. Maybe now you can take notice.
