Prez Candidate: Americans Getting "Fatter and Dumber"

Share

September 12, 2007 6:26 PM

ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: It's not every day that a presidential candidate says that Americans are getting "fatter and dumber."

But that's what former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel said Wednesday.

"I am prepared to tell you that Americans are getting fatter and dumber. I have no problem saying that," Gravel said, adding "I've also said that the Americans are going to get the government they deserve."

The long-shot candidate for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination made his provocative comments during an online candidates' forum sponsored by Yahoo!, Slate Magazine, and the Huffington Post.

Gravel's comments were first reported by the AP's Beth Fouhy.

Mr. Gravel,

Your comments, as a politician, were foolish. However, only rarely can a politician speak the truth and still get elected. You have no chance of being elected president, therefore you may speak the truth. You, sir, have spoken the truth and that I cannot argue with. The truth is the truth, no matter how hurtful it may be.

Wow - a democrat finally telling the truth. He may be a wacko, but he's right on with this. Most Americans can't find the US on a globe, can't identify the VP, but they can knock down the cheeseburgers.

And he's right about government. We do get what we deserve. If we vote for socialism that's what we get.

He must be spending too much time in red states.

I love this guy! Always the truth, right and straight, all down the line. He knows he won't be elected, but maybe he can tell some truths while the spotlight is hovering.

Mr. Gavel is obviously preaching to his choir; the Democratic base is composed of dimwits who will watch an Osama tape one day and a Democrat Presidential Candidate tape the next day and STILL not see that they share the same talking points. Also, Democrat Party supporters are a bunch of lardasses sitting around in their recliners knocking back beers while exercising what they think is their Constitutional right: to vote in American Idol.

He is right on! I hope he continues reminding Americans of the truth!!

He's hit the nail on the head, just look at the Congress we got stuck with...

he basically says what all leftwing politicians say : you, the people, are dum. I am smart. Shut up and obey me.

He should move to Europe, socialists all over the place are telling the same thing to their populations. Won't work in America though.

Btw speaking of Bin Laden, did anyone notice his beard being shorter and having no gray (just for men?). It has been jested (the truth seeker.com) that the CIA produces those tapes to keep the fear of him alive. The Repubs (McConnell) got awful testy when asked about that in the Petreaus report.

the reason he thinks we are dumb, is because we are spending billions a day on a war where the general officer in charge of the war is asked the question (by a republican senator) if we are making America safer, states "I don't know".
WE are Borrowing that money from the Chinese and Saudi's without the thought that we will have to pay it back sooner or later. If we had to fund that war right now out of our pockets in severe tax raises, we would be out of there tomorrow, but we stupid Americans don't equate the money due tomorrow as long as we enjoy today.

The truth will set you free...the dumbing down of America was a now well timed 30 year revolution led by an interesting assortment I will not list here, designed to raise ronnie rayguns and bushbaby ilk to acceptability by us citizens. They did and the consequences are????

Dumb, eh? Fat, eh? I'd tell this guy a thing or two, but I haven't finished my Big Mac. I'll get to Mr. Gavel during the commercial break; Homer is about to get mugged behind the Quickie-Mart. Duh!

Gravel is telling the truth. Americans are awfully stupid since they believe everything they see and hear on tv. That's why we have dumb unfit politicians wanting to be President that are unfit to be president of a boy scout troop. All of them say different things on different days. None of them have any integrity, they are political whores for sale to the highest bidder in exchange for money for their campaigns. Only one man among them is fit for the job. His track record is impeccable and he cannot be bought. His name is Ron Paul!Vote Ron Paul if you want our country to be saved from financial and political ruin.

He's right, the dumbing down of America worked, and we got the government that reflects that.

Praise the Lord, he is THE messiah

What do you expect from Budweiser, NASCAR, Big Mac, American Idol, the DemoCRAtS and RePublicans.

Can we get any dumber? Hope NOT

He's got my vote.

Any politician that brazen has got to be trustworthy.

If nothing else, the I'net proves two things:

1. Americans as a group are stupid;

and,

2. Using the I'net requires very little intelligence.

Americans as a group are fat is obvious by watching any news channel that includes a view of average people doing anything.

On 10/1/07 Mike Gravel's interview with the Lehr news program was excellent. We look forward to more of his information and hope he will visit North Idaho. We can rely on PBS for continued accurate information.
Thank you. carolyn
