Thompson: Deport Illegal Immigrants

Share

September 07, 2007 3:30 PM

ABC News' Christine Byun reports: Republican presidential candidate former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn.,  fleshed out his position on immigration reform while campaigning  at a townhall meeting in Sioux City, Iowa Friday.

His loudest and most frequent applause came during a lengthy response to a question regarding the status of illegal immigrants living in the United States.

"If we catch illegal immigrants who are here, they need to be deported," Thompson said. "If they want to get back in the right way, get in line with everybody else."

He also called upon Mexico President Felipe Calderon to focus on building his economy.

"We love you, we want to be your friend, but we would ask you to examine your policies as to whether or not it's wise for your economy to be based on the exportation of your own people," he said.

Thompson's question and answer session was interrupted by his daughter, Hayden, who walked on stage when he was discussing "what had to be done" in the Middle East.

"Hello Sweetheart, I'll be finished in a minute," he smiled, as she clung to his left leg.

THANK YOU, Mr. Thompson! About time someone admonished Mexico's leader that he should try to help his own economy rather than encourage his own people to leave the country for somewhere else.

Fred Thompson is the only viable candidate in the Republican field.

Discuss this with fellow Fred Heads at www.fredthompsonforum.com

Mexico embraced US style capitalism. Are you guys saying that maybe a Latin American country should embrace another system... maybe Bolivarianism? Venezuela does have the fastest growing economy in Latin America... and we don't see too many illegal aliens sneaking out of Venezuela. On the contrary... we see millions of Colombians, Mexicans and other Central Americans sneaking into the United States... and Colombia and Mexico were the countries which opened their economies to US investment.

Please close that border, and let Mexico look south to it's brothers, not North to the cold hearted blue eyed gringo masses! Please United States... please close that border, so Mexico can elect it's own Hugo Chavez, or it's own Evo Morales, or it's own Correa!

THANK GOODNESS someone has the stones to say something about this. Liberal guilt is liberal racism...this country is insane: Bush supports open borders, Dems support open borders. But the people DON'T. At least Fred gets it.

Fred pops open a can of Whoop-Ass and you folks cheer him as the savior. Picture Sheriff Fred saying, "All 8 million illegals are under arrest." What then? Well, the jails will be full and there will be no place to put the murderers, thieves and rapist. Perhaps he'll suggest they board at your house for a while. Not a likely scenario, of course, but there is no way to arrest, try and deport 8-12 million people, except in the movies. Maybe Fred will figure that out, if the press ever asks him a follow-up question.

In response to Sandra lea:
The only group of people who are fair game for racist comments are White Southern Males.
Yes, you can get away with referring to Fred Thompson as "Kentucky fried Fred bring on the hate mongering . . ."
Try picking on a black democrat as a "watermellon eating cotton picker, too lazy to work, and your sentiments will quickly be excoriated.
"YOU' are a racist, and I predict that another Conservative Southerner (Rather than a Northeastern Liberal) will get elected I
Just reading your response, I would fairly guess that you are from the North and think being "Southern" means racism and dumb.
Touche'. You are the "dumb" one.

Fred didn't say to "arrest" illegals, so why would we need new space in jail? Besides, the jails are so crowded because they are filled with illegal alien rapists, murderers and gang scum.

Robin - We could simply re-open Roosevelt's interment camps. But this time we'd be filling them based on people's legal status (illegal aliens) rather than, as Roosevelt did, solely because of their race. All we'll really need is some fencing and rifles.
And don't forget - Roosevelt did what needed to be done at the time. He was also a Democrat.

Looks like Fred might be the man come
November '08.

I'm all for rounding them up and sending them back--EVERY ILLEGAL ALIEN one of them.

I am against giving them a second chance to "get in line with everybody else."

If we truly want to STOP the invasion, then we have to make it a one-opportunity-to-do-it-right--legally--program.

No taxes? No jobs, no income, no schools, no theaters, no other religion but Islam, no freedoms--nothing!

Since when is standing up for the people of your OWN country hatemongering?

We ARE NOT the World. If you think so, move to another place you like better than here!

GO FRED!

PS, Fred Thompson is speaking for most Americans with common sense. He's got my vote already!

1) Secure the borders first!

What ever it takes. An Israeli style security fence ocean to ocean if necessary. Enviromentalists . . . go F&^* off and just shut up!

2) Start seriously enforcing laws against businesses knowingly hiring illegal workers.

Businesses know that they are hiring them. Especially farms, land scaping, construction, restaurants, etc., etc.

I am a technology based business owner. It is very easy to spot an illegal applyiung for a job. I won't hire anyone that is not a US citizen. If the ACLU doesn't like that, so what?

3) Start rounding up and immimeduately deporting illegal aliens and those that have over stayed their VISA.

No court proceedings are necessary. Just do it. The sherrif of Maracopa county, Arizona used to have illegal aliens that they had apprehended driven in a sherrif bus to the border when ICE wouldn't do it.

4) If immirants follow our immigration rules and laws to enter the US and start the road to being an American citizen then I welcome them with open arms.

If they don't I'll boot their rear ends out of this country over the fence at our border.

Protect the privacy of citizens! Stop spying on us and deport all non-citizens! WOW! What a concept!!!

Well, we'll see. I won't classify a Republican candidate as possessing common sense until he has the guts to spell out the things the for which the Democratic Party stands and then proceeds to list the horrifying damage that has been done to this country by the Democratic party over the most recent 40 years. To borrow a thought from The Fountainhead 'There has been a lot of discussion and volumes written, but just look at the results.
