ABC News' Christine Byun Reports: Republican Candidate Fred Thompson said his relationship with the National Rifle Association goes "way back" and touted recent campaign stops to a gunstore and gunshow at the Celebration of American Values conference.

"When I was in Florida, last week, I went to the gun show, right before the Florida-U-T football game … I should have stayed at the gun show," Thompson joked of the University of Tennessee's loss in Gainesville, Florida, last Saturday.

He insisted that his "philosophy does not depend on his geography," a subtle dig to his GOP rivals who, Thompson implied, have not had a solid record on second amendment rights.

Thompson – who was introduced by his campaign biopic video – also took questions submitted by conference attendees, stating he believed gun shows were a "part of Americana" and that if elected, he would support the current administration's position of the second amendment allowing and protecting the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms.

"I think we're quick on the interpretation of the second amendment," Thompson said. "The Constitution means what it says."

At the end of the speech, Thompson introduced his wife, Jeri, and boasted "she’d make a much better first lady than Bill Clinton."

Is he serious? America is the number one country with the highest death rate due to guns! There is a reason why horrible shootings has happened in the US in the last decade. I won't bring them up, but everyone knows what I am talking about. If preserving the outdated Second Amendment and having a gun show is "Americana" then I don't want to be an American anymore. Innocent police officers die daily due to people with illegal guns. Rich republican from the south, what do you know about gun problems in the city? Absolutely nothing, go shoot some quail with Cheyne and get out of the race!

What about all the people who are ALIVE because they had a weapon..used it for what it was ment to do...and took a stand. There are hundreds of people who are alive because they had a weapon. what about them ?!?!?!? Should they die because you dont have even a small understainding of what real life is all about?

Hey April, if you can do no more than regurgitate foolish comments from leftwing extremists. Keep quiet and stop being part of the problem instead of the solution. More mindless hystera we do not need.
