Ad Tells Voters Paul Is More Than Anti-War Candidate
October 12, 2007 12:42 PM
ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: Republican Congressman Ron Paul has fashioned his presidential campaign around the fiscally responsible, small government, libertarian principles he espouses. As a result, he doesn't spend campaign coin until after he has raised it. He raised just over $5 million last quarter.
In his first major outlay this quarter, Paul will spend $430,000 this weekend with a radio ad buy in the early primary states. While it is his stance against the Iraq war that has gained him the most attention in the media (and sets him apart from the rest of the Republican field), the radio ad the Paul campaign is airing makes no mention of Iraq or even foreign policy.
A narrator asks, "Who is Ron Paul, Republican candidate for President?" It goes on to describe his career as an OB-GYN, his military service as a flight surgeon, an his strong anti-tax record.
The ad will start airing this weekend in Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Text of the ad:
Narrator: Who is Ron Paul, Republican candidate for president. Ron Paul served his country as a flight surgeon after the Cuban missile crisis. As a young doctor, Ron Paul worked nights in the emergency room of an inner city hospital, talking care of everyone, whether they could pay or not.
As an OB-GYN Ron Paul delivered over 4,000 babies.
As a doctor, Ron Paul knows our healthcare system needs real change, where patients and doctors are in charge, not big corporations or government bureaucrats. As a Congressman for almost two decades, Ron Paul knows our Constitution is there to protect our freedom and limit government in our lives.
He has never voted for a tax increase or an unbalanced budget. His record clearly shows he will cut taxes and stop runaway spending. People who know him call him the taxpayer’s best friend.

Paul: I'm Ron Paul and I approved this message.

I wish I was as cool as Ron Paul.

I was born in Houston in the early 1970's. My mom is a US Government teacher, and one of the first politicians that I ever heard of was Ron Paul. It was a sad day when I realized that he was among the exceptions and not the norm for those that represent us in Washington DC.
One thing my mom always told me was that if I didn't have the information that I should get it before making a decision. I implore you, the reader, to go to the official site and get the information on the issues regarding Ron Paul yourselves.
Thank you very much for your time.

OFCOURSE his ad doesn't mention the war. Because of the media he has been painted as a single issue candidate.
Hell in the CNBC debate about economy...they didn't ask him 1 tax question or anything about his plan to phase out the IRS, they didn't ask him anything about the Federal reserve which is responsible for devaluation of our dollar.
Hopefully this ad, will remind the media...that he is not a one trick pony and maybe they'll figure out that for majority of Ron Paul supporters the economy is a bigger issue than Iraq war.

Great ad! I hope it reaches the ears of voters far and wide.
We must all do what we can to get Ron Paul elected. The country depends on it.

Not bad. Usually you start the ads with the mooshy family-values heres-my-past ads, and go on to issue ads later in the campaign.

It's not just "people who know him" who call him "the taxpayers' best friend" -- it's the National Taxpayers' Union, 10 years in a row!
I love that the ad mentions health care. Issue for issue, he is the Republican's only answer to Hillary Clinton.
As David Boaz said, Ron Paul fixes everything that was wrong with the Republican Party in 2006 -- he's against the war, against amnesty, for smaller government, for privacy rights, and totally incorruptible.

A group of forty of us stood in Plano, TX, at one of the busiest intersections with our banners this morning. We have never had so many honking horns and thumbs up. Ron Paul is gaining ground. We have a goal of reaching one million voters by year end. We are on track...

A group of us walked through Georgetown and Washington DC with a Ron Paul sign last weekend, and we got many honks and very excited people when we told them Ron Paul would get rid of the income tax. I urge every Ron Paul supporter who goes somewhere on vacation to take a Ron Paul sign around with them-- lots of people will see it. We need to help the good doctor spread his message. I hope these radio ads are effective, they sound great!

What doesn't get mentioned very often is that sure he wants to "abolish" the income tax and scale back the scope of or eliminate some federal departments, but as he had a good opportunity to explain in a lengthy interview this week, he knows that any of these changes have to be transitioned to, and that those who played by certain rules during their lifetimes should not be disadvantaged by a sudden cut-off of benefits. Also, Paul has a very good working relationship with legislators from both sides of the aisle who, even though they don't agree with his strict adherance to the Constitution on the basis of practicality, still have tremendous respect for him as a principled, incorruptible statesman. For all of the bluster from the media and his political opponents about his intent to slash this and burn that, the reality is that Paul would do neither. He wants to steer the country into a gradual course-correction that avoids a repeat of our economic collapse of the 1930's.

The issue that mostly brought my attention to Ron Paul is his stance on
Health Freedom. He is the leading
Congressman working to keep our
freedoms to access Alternative Health
Care and Nutritional Supplements.
Also he is the main advocate for
Home Schooling.
And he wants to put an end to the
abuse of power in the Federal Government, resinstating out
liberty. He is strongly opposed to the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act and will restore out
basic rights as laid out in the Bill of
Rights.
Donate to his campaign. America needs your support.

College students unite for Ron Paul! He has the truth. He has the love. Love isn't something you do with someone else's money. It's something you do with principles.

I am 35 and have completely abstained from politics because everything I have heard out of politician's mouths sounded absurd. For the first time, I feel represented. I feel hope.

Everyone supporting Ron Paul (especially college students):
Are you feeling "disenfranchised" by, for the most part, not being taken seriously by the media and the political party establishment?
One of the oldest tricks in the political playbook is to offer up skewed polls that make it appear as though your candidate does not have enough support to win.
We know better, do we not?
This is CRUCIAL: Since the media has not been very cooperative in covering Dr. Paul (with the occasional exception, with due thanks to ABC News for some recent pieces), it is up to YOU to create awareness so your peers, relatives of all age groups, and coworkers can become informed about this man.
Then, on Primary Day, SHOW UP AND VOTE! EVERY VOTE is absolutely essential. I cannot imagine having a more clear-cut opportunity to make this endorsement of the principles on which this nation was founded.
The time is now... Let's all do this together!

I hope I pray he goes far, its so important at this point in our history, and I live in Australia!!

Finally...a "politician" who is actually interested in restoring America to what it should stand for.
Limited government - think what that means though - that means that you are rewarded for your own hard work. That means that I dont have to work hard and provide half of it to the military and to those on welfare

Ron Paul actually talks about a US govt that I studied about when I came to the US for university studies. A government that I have not seen in existense in the last 16 years. Americans have been lulled into thinking that the government knows best and that if one does not follow it, one is not a patriot. What a load of rubbish. Mr Paul is educating Americans on the power of the individual vote, the power of the people and the rights that the founding fathers fought for. As a naturalized American - this is Awesome - cant wait to see how this country can grow with such a leader

I totally understand the lack of media attention. How can the "paid for" media actually write up a Republican who is against all the corporate and Wall Street coddling that pays for these media types....media publicity will come for Ron Paul when it becomes a no brainer...like when Ron Paul raise $100 million from regular Americans, like when Mitt Romney stops funding his own campaign, like when McCain cant borrow any more, like when Guiliani runs out of things to say (that he cant answer with a "911" metaphor)...soon...its inevitable....
