Clinton Defends Marriage, Lauds 'Romantic' Prez

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: In an interview with Essence Magazine, Hillary Clinton discusses her marriage to the former president.

"Oh, he's so romantic," says the former first lady, "He's always bringing me back things from his trips."

Clinton also made rare remarks on the former (and aspiring) first couple's marital troubles.

"Now, obviously we've had challenges as everybody in the world knows," she told Essence. "But I never doubted that it was a marriage worth investing in even in the midst of those challenges, and I'm really happy that I made that decision."

Mrs. Clinton pointed out the Chanel watch made of white cubes Mr. Clinton bought her because it reminded him of teeth -- and she was having dental surgery at the time. (ABC News' Green Room Girl points out that this is likely the J12 - putting this gift in the range of $4,200 to $11,950 depending on whether or not Clinton sprung for diamond markers or the bezel).

Candidate Clinton also told the mag that her proudest moment is Chelsea and that her favorite show is "Grey's Anatomy".

The interview appears in the November issue of Essence Magazine and tackles Clinton's fight for the black vote in a Democratic field that includes Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

"Bill's always bringing me back things from his trips".

Ya think he would do a better job of hiding his black book of phone numbers .

I don't want to know what else he brings back from those trips!

What a complete load of crap. I can't take this woman seriously.

Oh boy!

This is the kind of in-depth news story we get from a corrupt media. ABCnews leading the way to get the Hil elected. What a fluff piece. Almost as bad as NBCnews. Keep it up, those of us shorting NY times (NYSE: NYT) and Tribune (TRB) are making lots of money. ABC-anyone but Clinton, but Not obama

wow, the clinton haters are still at it... and they probably still support the most unethical, lying, cruel, immoral, criminal president we have ever had... but then again, most right wing fundamentalist christians are obvious hypocrites too...

The degree to which each of these two use each other reaches a new high, each and everyday. I agree with dean o: this is such a fluff piece that it screams pro-Hillary.

I always chuckle when the "better than thou" come on with their snide comments. I'm sure they are all as white as the new fallen snow (not!). In my marriage, both my husband and I had indiscretions which we NEVER would have believed either of us could do. Yet at the time and under the circumstances, we made what were bad choices, much like the one Bill Clinton made (and millions more if the truth be known) and we endure the consequences which were light compared to what the Clintons had to endure. I applaud Hillary for her tenacity and I have no doubt it made their marriage stronger in the long run. Bill Clinton puts George Bush to shame in who is the best president. When Hillary is President, with Bill behind her, hopefully we can get this country back on course. Bush's "stay the course" had almost totally devastated this country, our hope, our children and everything decent. Bush doesn't care about getting "special attention" such as Bill but he certainly cares about his and his friends $$$$$$$$$. To save America...vote HILLARY IN 2008!

I doubt if anyone really believes that the only motivation for this nonsense is the campaign. You should be able to ask the Arkansas State Police detail that protected Bill when he was Gov about some of their 'romantic' relationships. Between her cussing like a sailor and throwing things at him one would not conclude that much love existed between these two.

I find the reflexive 'Hillary-devil' comments both amusing and baffling. The degree of antipathy expressed is often so visceral. I just can't see this level of hate. Not a big Hillary fan, but I think she'd do OK; couldn't be worse than GWB and that crowd, and I wouldn't mind having Bill back around (sinner and all, who am I to judge - as though I have no skeletons). They're both bright, serious, and if their default mode is ambition, it isn't the ambition to concentrate power and wealth even more in the 1% of the country that already has 40% of it.

Can anybody say, "lead balloon"? I guess it depends on what your definition of "is" is.

funny how the clinton haters are probably right wingers who worship marriage, yet condemm their relationship... personally, i could care less what goes on in their personal lives, as long as their leadership skills are good...

It is unbelievable how many people think that they know the Clinton's personally. They've had problems but that doesn't mean that they don't love each other and aren't romantic with each other.------I'll take Clinton any day over this last bumbling, idiot of a president.----How odd that so many republicans can be so judgemental. They're probably out doing somebody right now, it's just not PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE.

All of you who think that you really know the Clintons are probably not from Arkansas. We had them up to our chins before most of you even heard of them. There is nothing romantic or noble about them. They live a life totally different from the view that the press want you to see. It's really sad but you really can fool most of the people most of the time.

I don't remember the last time there was a presidential candidate on the ballot in November that I really wanted to vote for. Looks like the same this year. Dems you are right: Bush is a bumbling idiot. Reps you are right: Hillary is a she-devil.

So who the heck am I supposed to vote for this time? Picking between Bush and Gore and Bush and Kerry was like picking between poison ivy and poison oak. How can the two parties do such a horrible job of sending forth nominees on such a consistent basis?

Having been born when LBJ was in office, there is no question that Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were the two best presidents of my lifetime. One republican and one democrat. The partisan nonsense has to stop because neither party is better than the other at providing quality nominees for president. Nobody is right all the time, which is why I am an independent.

Now, for the love of God, please give me somebody decent to vote for next November.

You know, if Hillary had left Bill 9 years ago, she would have been villified by the haters for giving up on her "sacred" marriage vows. (Hmm, like McCain & Giuliani have -- multiple times). But instead she chose to stick it out. Married men cheat, their wives forgive them. It happens every day in America. Judge not lest ye be judged.

I can't believe that most of you are still willing to believe this tripe! OK, so you think Georgy is a liar and Billary isn't... think about it, GW did what he did because he thought it was best for our country.

Posted by: Citizen | Oct 23, 2007 1:11:57 PM

I have no use for the Clintons but I do not advocate divorce. That solves no problem. However, I don't believe she stayed with him for such noble reasons but rather for pragmatic political reasons. She knows that she can't make it on her own becoming President without him.

Posted by: Gary | Oct 23, 2007 1:16:22 PM

I'd rather have a president lie about their person affairs than lie to get us into a war. But I guess many of those on this board can't see the difference.

Well, I guess we can relate more to the hurt that would happen if we have a spouse that is unfaithful. And lying about a war is just print in a newspaper or monitor or words on the TV. Harder to personally relate to.

And besides, most of you who are critical don't realize that a passionate man is every womans dream and because of that, he will be given many opertunities. I think Hillary realizes what she's got.

Let's just say I can relate to Bill.

He's sooooo romantic!
Hardy-har-har
Isn't that what Monica Lewinsky and
Gennifer Flowers said as well?
Hillary is a fool and has no moral qualifications to run for President.
(But then again, neither does George Bush!)
