Clinton Unveils College Savings Plan
October 11, 2007 1:40 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: On a day the GOP is attacking Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's spending, Clinton unveiled her college savings plan in Plymouth, NH this morning by saying the United States "should not be playing catch-up with the world" in the realm of higher education.
Clinton's proposal will be paid for in part by her plan to repeal the estate tax on households of more than $7 million dollars. She estimates that freezing estate tax will save $400 billion dollars over 10 years. Half of these savings will pay for Clinton’s American Retirement accounts plan, the other half for Hillary Clinton’s Plan to Make College More Affordable.
Clinton proposed several ideas to the crowd at Plymouth State University including tuition tax credits and Pell Grant increases, alongside improving community colleges, training programs and graduation rates.
Clinton said in a statement "this tax credit is the heart of my plan- the key to unlocking the doors of higher education for students across America."
Clinton jabbed the White House in her statement saying, "Unfortunately, our current president has a different approach, he is more focused on providing handouts to Halliburton and tax cuts to oil companies than he is to making sure that we take care of planning for the next generation."
In the GOP's attack against Clinton, the Republican National Committee said in a statement: "It seems like Hillary Clinton is coming out with new plans to expand government and spend your taxes almost every single day now. In fact, she's come up with so many big-government schemes over the last two weeks alone that it's becoming hard to keep track of them all."
The RNC estimates Clinton’s spending at $724 billion dollars. They have even created the website --Clintonspendometer.com --- to track it.

Prepare for Hillary's grand Socialist Revolution. She says so herself.
“I have a million ideas. The country can’t afford them all.”
"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."
"I want to take those profits."
