Edwards Attacks Clinton on Questionable Contributions
October 19, 2007 3:43 PM
ABC News' Raelyn Johnson Reports: After an article in Friday's "Los Angeles Times" revealed that Clinton received large donations from poor residents living in New York City's Chinatown, the Edwards campaign pounced on the opportunity to bring more attention to the questionable contributions.
"This morning we all read in L.A. Times that many Clinton campaign contributions are raising eyebrows again. Many of their donors are not even registered to vote, and at least one denied even making any contribution at all," Edwards Campaign Manager David Bonior said in a statement on Friday.
"Senator Clinton has said public financing is the answer. Senator Edwards has opted to take public financing, but Senator Clinton has not. Senator Clinton should explain why she doesn't mean what she says...The bottom line is we need a nominee who can do two things: campaign in all 50 states and challenge our broken system in Washington. With every day the growing question has to be can Hillary Clinton do either?"
Last Sunday while campaigning in New Hampshire, Edwards sought to bring Clinton down a notch by pointing to a story "The New York Times" that explained the New York Senator's vote to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization.
"There was a story in today's New York Times about this issue and about her vote on this issue. And some of her advisers said that she voted yes because she was moving from primary mode to general election mode. I may be wrong, and you'll have to tell me, have we already decided who's going to win the New Hampshire primary," said Edwards during a town hall meeting in Dover last week.
Seeking further distinction he added, "instead of primary mode versus general election mode, instead of saying one thing in the primary and something different for the general election, how about if we do tell the truth mode all the time. How about if we say exactly what we believe and stand by that position."

Edwards sure knows about corrupt campaign contributions. Ask him about Tab Turner, Bill Lerach, and Milberg Weiss.

At least Edwards is reacting! This is absolutely insane. If Hillary had a Chinese Grandpappy this wouldn't happen!!! We need to get O'reilly on it! Absolutely insane! A waiter making $500 a week gives Hillary a grand???? Wasn't Hillary's criminal fundraiser (Hsu?) Chinese? Ridiculous!!!

It's extremely funny how people with say almost anything to make an invalid point or claim. If you're going to wrtie about something... write about the facts. It's okay to dislike a candidate and her views but really who cares about what you believe or assume. The truth is... Edwards,Obama and all of the GOP candidate will attack Hillary because of where she ranks in the polling, but after all the spin... they are probably about 1% truthful so who cares. I probably won't come back to this site so who's cares about the responses I'll receive. Go Hillary!

Here we go again! These Clintons are absolutely shameless. Sadly, I think there may be enough stupid people in America for them to pull it off..Scarey!

Charlie Trie, John Huang, now Norman Hsu and the Chinese wards in NYC. It's pretty obvious the Clintons have a long term deal with the Chinese government.
This should be the #1 story in the '08 campaign.

Yummy, I can't wait for the equivalent story on Barack Obama. Surely the "holy one" is as corrupt as Madame Hillary.

the stench of desperation overwhelms john edwards. grasping at straws to save his sinking campaign by attacking other dems generally and hillary specifically will only make him sink further like a stone. and to the mob of frothing wingnuts who posted above all their favorite mendacious memes, I just can't wait for all your heads to explode when hillary clinton is inaugurated our forty-forth president. ha-ha!

The Clintons are the most corrupt political family in this country's history and that's saying something following the Kennedy's. Bill and Hillary absolutely disgust me.

The Clintons will sell us out in a minute if Hillary gets elected just like Bill sold us out last time. She's even got that thief Sandy Berger on her staff. But they're counting on people to be too stupid to see that.

The LA Times article was glowing in terms of the contributions. It was like, "look at these poor, poor busboys who have almost no money. Yet they are willing to contribute to Hillary- -she must be an amazing candidate!
Buried was a quote from one busboy who said he was ordered by his chinese elders to contribute the money. Al Capaone, Hillary what exactly is the difference here?

HILLARY AND BILL SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR TREASON. THIER TIES AND FUNDRAISING FUNDED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF CHINA IS CRIMINAL.
PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND LOCK THEM UP ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!
CHINA SHOWS US TIME AND TIME AGAIN HOW THE CLINTONS CAN BE BOUGHT!!!
THANK YOU MR. EDWARDS FOR YOUR HEADS UP!!

Oh come on!
Just because the don't read or speak English and just because they don't vote why would you think the hundreds of Dishwashers wouldn't have an overwhelming desire to donate six to twelve weeks' wages to hillary's campaign?
Makes perfect sense to me
Move on, nothing to see here...

SANDY BURGER IS ON HER STAFF???
HOW CAN HE EVER GET CLEARENCE WITH HIS CRIMINAL BAXCKROUND? (VIA THE ACTS HE PERFORMED FOR HIS DUNGEON MASTER BILL.
WHAT IS HE EXPECTED TO SHOVE DOWN HIS PANTS FOR HILLARY?
ANOTHER VINCE FOSTER IN THE WORKS HERE...I HOPE THEY DON'T TAKE HIM OUT WHEN HE FINALY FOLDS..

The Clintons are in your face corrupt. How this morally and ethically dysfunctional duo appeals to any clear thinking person is astounding.

This consultant induced early campaign season will prove fatal for Hillary Clinton. It gives voters and those who usually do not vote a chance to hear her ideas and look at her votes (without nuance) and see into her past. "Fatally" flawed! Remember those words. No that wasnt a question. Karl Rove will have made the Democrats eat their very own words nearly 1 1/2 years out of the general election should they nominate her.
If they do; Hsu will probably be the least of her worries.
I am so pumped for her to run. I cant see how the Republicans/pundits are keeping the cheers inside? Newt calls her "formidable" with such happiness. They want to defeat the Clinton's before the World. In front of God and everyone. Her defeat will be the death of liberalism in America, once and for all.
ANY Republican....except that isolationist Ron Paul or Reverend Sam Brownback (who is supposedly out), who wins the nomination will beat her hands down. Screw these early polls.

Anyone who is surprised by Hillary Clinton's lack of ethics is either naive, or just doesn't care. What is it about the Clinton's that makes people look the other way?
Hillary is worse than her husband, and that is saying a ton. What next, fundraisers at Chinese monk pavilions?
Illegal farmworker fundraisers?
This woman is the Manchurian candidate for the 00's.

When the Clintons were in power they did
much to help the Communist Chinese; is
this latest scam a means of funneling
Chinese Govt. money into her campaign?
The Chinese would benefit greatly both in the form of military and economic
power if the Clintons win again. Where
is the federal investigation of this
influence of a U.S. election by a foreign power?

The system needs to change. Until that happens this will occur. We need public financing. Edwards did not embrace that concept initially, but he has turned to it now in desperation. Hillary and Obama on the other hand attract large sums of money. It is like trying to take a drink of water from a firehose. Both campaigns have taken money from questionable sources, and return it when those facts become known. The amount in this case seems de minimus in the scheme of things.

What? What? What did you say? You are
surprised that H. Clinton did not tell
the truth? She doesn't know how to tell the truth! Open up your ears and
remember the things she says...if you
can.

Again, the system is the problem. All campaigns, including Richardson have received questionable contributions, and do their best to ferret them out and return them as the facts become known. The Supreme Court calls legitimate campaign contributions free speech. The problem with that analysis is it gives some a louder voice than others.
