Giuliani: I "Gave My Blood" for NY Republicans
October 16, 2007 12:04 PM
ABC News’ Jan Simmonds reports: Speaking before the Republican Jewish Coalition this morning, Rudy Giuliani, R-NY, wasted no time in fighting back criticism from his GOP rivals.
“Am I real Republican?” Giuliani asked the crowd while not naming his critics by name. “I gave my blood for the Republican Party in New York. I often say I was the first Republican mayor in New York in 25 years. And I was the first to remain one in 50 years.”
Watch the video HERE.
On Friday, Mitt Romney, R-MA, called himself a "real Republican through and through." Romney's comments have been interpreted by some as saying some of his opponents within the party, such as Giuliani, are not.
And yesterday during a myriad of stops in the Big Apple, Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., attacked Giuliani’s credentials as both a Republican and a conservative.
“I don't think… that the mayor has ever claimed to be a conservative,” said Thompson in an interview with Fox News Channel. “He has sought and received the liberal party nomination. The liberal party put out a press release at the time saying he thinks the way we do.”
Giuliani, who touts his conservative credentials in almost every speech -- especially his fiscal conservative merits -- has made a concerted effort to convince naysayers that he is a conservative Republican.
To that point, Giuliani often quotes conservative columnist George Will who has credited Giuliani with running the most conservative government in the last 50 years.

LM: why is Rudy Giulianni more qualified than Ron Paul? You didnt really give any facts in your statement?
Not trying to call you out but, I am. Cause I hear people say that type of thing and it makes me wonder why they feel that way. I mean you realize that Giulianni has ties to the Austrailian company that is funding the NAFTA Super Highway? Do you also realize that Giulianni has cut denied health care to 60% of the 911 first responders? These are the people that he claims he supports! He uses them everytime he gets on stage he says "I survived through 911" Yea he did that by avoiding ground zero because he knew it was toxic! He spent more time at yankee games than at ground zero.
SO..... why would he be a good leader?
Ron Paul for pres!

FUNNY. Just pure FUNNY. What did he give to this city? He says he protected this city during 9/11 but he should of been protecting before 9/11 and maybe it wouldn't have happened. Instead he was busy cheating on his wife in Gracie Mansion. This guy has truly let this go to his head but all he did was afterwards walk down in a bunch of mess that was partly his fault for not PROTECTING the city BEFORE a disaster.

Gave his blood for the party? What a laugh. During Vietnam, when he had his chance to give some blood for the COUNTRY he now wants to lead, he turned tail and ran like the craven coward he is. Giuliani is a joke, a chicken, and a huckster. He's about as manly as a Raggedy Ann doll with a child molestor on his payroll. And he all but killed 121 NYC firefighters. Believe it. All of it.

Am I missing something here?
ABC News’ Jan Simmonds refers to these canidates...
"Rudy Giuliani, R-NY."
"Mitt Romney, R-MA"
"Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn."
...as if there in government or something.
What's the "R-NY" mean? -- t

Just a point of information for the writer who complains about Thompson's reference to the Liberal Party. In New York, there is a political party with that name. Fred was not referring to the Democratic Party, but, by its proper name, to the New York Liberal Party, whose endorsement Giuliani did seek and obtain in two political campaigns.

I can't help but feel that as president he'll say "I gave blood, now it's your turn" as he ships more of our young people off to wars for the same wrong reasons as is happening now.

Yeah, but what about this:
"Rudy Giuliani, R-NY."
"Mitt Romney, R-MA"
"Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn."
Is RG a Repub rep-ing NY? Or, is MR still gov? Is FT still a sen?
What going on????

If that's true, perhaps one ought to ask members of the NY GOP what they think about Rudy. Considering the fact that his dropping out of the election in 2000 cost them the entire upstate region (once solidly Republican), it's always been my impression that they don't look too kindly on Rudy.
Not to mention the fact that he endorsed Cuomo over Pataki (not that either soul has much of a brain to begin with).
Why is it that everyone outside of NY loves this guy, but New Yorkers (not just the libs) feel differently? Perhaps the rest of the country ought to trust us on this one. Either that or Hillary will mop the floor with him in the general like she did in 2000.

I'm definitely not defending Grandpa Fred, but the Liberal Party is an actual down-ballot party in New York State. Corrupt to the gills and not particularly liberal, but an actual party.

Presumably, he meant it as a metaphor. And presumably, he also means it as a metaphor when he says that he spent more time at the WTC site than anybody; that he's among the 5 best known Americans on earth; that he's a deeply religious man; that he's an expert on terrorism; and that he doesn't scare small children. Because in the fact-based, non-metaphorical world, there is no possible way any of those could be true.

he bled for his party, untaking the toughest job a republican has ever had, taming liberl-unhinged new york. new york was a city of liberals run by liberals for a generation, and they ran it straight into the toilet: unheard of crime and murder rates, drug trafficing, peep shows and prostitutes on every corner, welfare rolls out of control, taxes through the roof, and a population that was fleeing the city. then rudy took over, transforming the failed liberl government into a true shining city on a hill, giuliani saved new york not once, but twice. he brought new york back from the brink of out of control liberalism and then rallied new york again after 9/11. he is one of the greatest chief executives this nation has ever had, and his resume and record overwhelm his republican opponents and destroy the weak records of the impotent democrat top tier.

Giuliani is an opportuinistic chicken-hawk. How can he claim to have "given blood" for this city/party?
The Republican party is slunk so low, it is hard to decide who to vote for. The front runners are Mitt and Rudy? God help us!
What happened to the principled Republicans like Sen. Specter, Sen. Lugar, Sen. Hagel, and even Sec. Rice? I wish one or more of them had stepped in to save the party.
Take care.

Rudy "Ghoul" Giuliani...dying to get elected. Pathetic.
Posted by: wilder5121 | Oct 16, 2007 6:02:40 PM
rudiani makes bush look like a wimp, which he is, which makes rudiani look like an even bigger wimp, which HE is... and if you dont get what i'm saying, the simplified version is that Rudiani is probably the only candidate that would be worse than what we already have!
Posted by: earthnotflat | Oct 16, 2007 6:13:22 PM
one question is why would rudy be living with gay guys?
it had to be to make a statement.
he wasn't doing it becuase he was poor.
that was a poor decision.

But he sucked it off Americans' necks.

If he is the candidate,Guiliani will lose the entire South with the exception of the Snowbirds in Florida, most of the Mid-West and some of the West. Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay, Pro-Amnesty and Anti-Gun is no way to be going thru life if you want to win the Red States!!!

I have followed Rudy ever since he was the atty in the southern district of ny and I feel that he has the wherewithal to get this country on the right track. This guy is straight forward-thinking, does not hesitate to answer question because he speaks from the heart (not to mention the brain). Right now, in the midst of one of the worst times in recent U. s. history, we need a strong, straight-talking President and one who would not hesitate to take charge.
Rudy-Patutiti, you are my man!
God-speed!

9/11 exploiter! Shut up Rudy, you're favorability rating has been dropping like flies since you've decided to run and everyone has gotten to see the real Rudy. You've used up all the 9/11 you can.

Rudy was my mayor for eight years. He was absolutely brilliant. I am a New Yorker who respects him, will vote for him enthusiastically. He took my city, which had sunk to the levels of Detroit, I was afraid to walk three blocks, and I live in a middle-class neighborhood, and he turned that city into Disneyland North. He did it by a single-minded focus, despite governing in a city with a 5-1 (that's right) Democratic majority, and the constant attacks by the NY Times and the NY liberals. TOday it is one of the most livable cities on earth. Rudy will be a great president.
