Giuliani Says Dems Will Change Mind About Iraq War

ABC News' Jan Simmonds Reports:  Rudy Giuliani said at a town hall meeting Monday that he thinks the Democrats are going to change their minds about the Iraq War and again support it.

"Do I think the mission in Iraq is the correct one? I think without a doubt it is," Giuliani said in Londonderry, New Hampshire. "And I think the Democrats are gonna change their mind about it again."

Giuliani went on to describe how Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and John Edwards, D-N.C., both were initially in favor of invading Iraq, having voted that way in the Senate, but have since "changed their minds about it."

"I think Edwards has apologized for it. She (Hillary Clinton) hasn't apologized for it but she said it was a mistake, but it was George Bush's mistake. I guess he got her to vote that way," he said.

The former Mayor of New York went on to tell the crowd, of over 250 people, again that he thought over time the Democrats will change their minds about the Iraq War and that "over time history will show it was the right decision."

Mayor Giuliani sounds like a character in the old story, The Emporer's New Clothes. He still believes the myth. Sorry, Rudy, lots of us have realized that the Emperor is walking around in his underwear, and we'll never believe the myth again.

Ghouliani is a joke, even to many New Yorkers. The NYPD and NYFD love him, NOT!

There is only one positive thing this man did in NY. That was Clean up Times square. Out side of cleaning up Times square he is as much of a scum bag as the rest of the political party. He did his job on 9/11... HE is no hero !!! Just another SCumbag..

If you continue to defend this corrupt and inept administration you are history! The American people will not allow another president to sit in office with the "silent approval" of the congress and continue on this path! The next president will answer to the Ameriacan people "as will" congress - OR YOU WILL NOT BE THERE - IT IS THAT DAMN SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!! NO WAY ARE WE GOING FOR ANOTHER 8 YEARS OF THIS B.S.!!

The truth is hard. Let's face it, 3000 innocent Ammericans killed by fanatical criminals on 9/11 are the reason we are over in the mid-East. You can say what you want, but not one government in the Mid-East was unhappy to see Sadam go. He was a theat to everyone in the region. As hard as it is, the 3500 lives lost are small in comparison to what the invasion has yieled - freedom to the Iraqis and the Kurdish people and freedom to the people of Afghanistan. People who oppose this war are showing the signs of liberal cowardice.

Giuliani is insane!Has he been hiding under a rock? The Iraq mission was a correct one? Oh please, don't elect another buffoon!

Posted by: kizzy | Oct 29, 2007 8:45:53 PM

iraniankurd:
You are confusing the Iraq war with Afghanistan - Afghanistan war was because of 911 - the Iraq war was about oil & Bush's personal agenda.

He is a joke!

Yeah, "liberal cowardice." This from yet another hypocritical right-wing coward who's too much of a panty waist to join up and go fight in this war that he (she?) thinks is just SUCH A BRILLIANT IDEA and SO NECESSARY TO OUR NATION'S SECURITY! Who's the REAL coward -- a liberal who stands up for what they believe in the face of scathing attacks from the right, or a conservative who thumps his chest and shouts bellicose epithets at al-Qaeda from the comfort and safety of his home thousands of miles from the danger zone? THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

Thanks, Rudy. You've given reason not to support for you. Your fantasy that the Iraq War was and is "the correct thing to do" and your neocon advisors ought to be a warning flag to all American voters.

How does a Serial adulterer with ties to the MOB get to be the front-runner of the GOP party ? Is the Party that desperate ?

Posted by: adam | Oct 29, 2007 9:58:54 PM

This Thompson supporter likes Giuliani's defense of the Iraq war.

jade02008 - Thanks for the reason to support neither Thompson nor Rudy. President Bush, VP Cheney and the neocon decision to invade Iraq has proved to be a disasterous decision.

There are, in fact, times when the United States will be called legitimately to wage war. \This level of decision should not be taken lightly or without substantive evidence or reason. I failed to see any real evidence that provided a reason for this adventure. The fact that candidates continue to support this nonsense to the degredation of both our foreign policy and our military and our standing among nations does not speak well of them.

Simple put: The neocons sold America a bill of goods. Americans with their chest beating patriotism failed miserably to examine the facts and to hold leaders accountable. Those who continue this path are taking the United States down a failed and painful lesson in history.

If you don't recognize it yet, Mr. Bush and his cohorts have mired us in an expensive sandtrap with little hope to extricate ourselves. If Mr. Guliani and Mr. Thompson cannot bring themselves to realize this, they do not deserve to lead this country.

I do not wish those well who fail to recognize and acknowledge mistakes and foolishness. And, if you do not know it, the Iraq War is bleeding us and will continue to do so well into the future.

Should we have gone to war with Iraq? I vacillated until I read one day in a book of ancient origins that peoples of old cultures had problems with groups of people built up to get power and gain through the shedding of blood and that religious leaders among those people counseled that unless the people of the freedom-loving countries repented of their sins and sought to eliminate these murderous "combinations" that were killing people that the work of destruction would come upon the freedom loving people by the sword of justice of our Eternal God until their countries were overthrown and destroyed because God would not let the blood of those who were killed to not be answered upon the heads of those who killed them, or upon the heads of the countries not eliminating those who sought to overthrow their freedoms, and the freedoms of all nations and countries. So, naturally, I felt without a doubt that we'd better go to war against Sadaam and the terrorists he was allowing into his country which would in turn attack America any time. The World Trade Center, the SS Cole, the embassy, etc. were proof these murderous groups were killing and doing so without justice on their heads. It was time to get rid of our enemies who had murder in their hearts towards us or we might face the judgments of God for not caring about our freedoms and lives of those lost and yet to be lost and in deed our safety.
Now, we've got to care enough for Iraq's people and new government to get them settled into a new form of government or we'll be back into the country trying to defend them against Al Quiada, Syria or Iran, all of whom have expressed an interest in taking over Iraq--especially now they are weak militarily. We can't abandon those whose government we uprooted and forced to change to a more representative form for freedom and our own security.
Will there come a time to leave? Absolutely, for Iraq's sovereignty.

Over 3500 dead, 28,000 soldiers maimed and wounded. Cost over 500 billion and counting. This war is not about being a Democrat or Republican. Families on both sides have lost sons and daughters. This war was fought over lies and the greed for oil. All those who continue to beat the war drum, how many sons or daughters have you sacrificed. Why didn't Jenna Bush join the armed forces and go serve her country. I didn't see Guliani's son signing up.

I keep hearing this line that "history will prove us right" about this war... Can someone explain to me what they know that I don't? If there is some secret that will be exposed in time, please share it with the rest of us...We can take it - really we can! And while you're at it, PLEASE explain exactly what vital "U.S. interest" we're protecting there? I really would like to know which "Vital Interest" was worth the death of so many...

Hello everyone, im a college student and have been reading up on the campaign trails. For one bith countries governments needed to go, they were corrupted and funded terrorist throughout the world. We have seen over the years what inaction has done. The first WTC bombing and the USS Cole. It seems liberals are too content to complain at the republicans for political gain instead of getting behind the president, getting behind the troops, and help bring another V Day to our country. We are there and that is it! America doesnt back down out of defeat. We wont just drop what we are doing now and come home when the public wants to. Quite frankly not to many protestors think what they do to troop moral when they say its all bogus and there is no reason for us being there, much less give them the blessing of the people of our nation.
