Hollywood Director Stumps for Clinton
October 09, 2007 5:05 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: An email appeared in the inboxes of Clinton campaign supporters Tuesday morning from Hollywood movie director Rob Reiner -- best known for movies such as 'When Harry Met Sally' and 'A Few Good Men.'
"When I received Hillary's email asking for volunteers, I did what any other Hollywood director would do, I made a movie," Reiner writes in the email.
The email provided supporters with a link to Reiner's internet ad, featured on Clinton's campaign website. The ad features the famous director directing Clinton staffers on how to convince voters to support Clinton.
The internet ad starts out with a Clinton staffer knocking on a door and greeting a women who answers the door.
Reiner steps in, directing the staffer, "You've got to be more forceful, give it a real knock."
"You need a new line. 'Do you have a miniute?' --who wants to listen to that? She'd rather be making a casserole than talk to you!" Reiner scolds. "Say 'I want to talk to you about Hillary Clinton, do you have a minute.'"
The young man follows orders and Reiner says, "See? Working!"
In another scene, Reiner advisers Clinton staffers on cold calling voters on the telephone. "Im calling from the Hillary Clinton campaign," a volunteer says into the phone.
"No, No," complains Reiner who steps into frame. "It's flat, you need to find your motivation, you need to find the passion!"
In another scene, Reiner screens Clinton campaign volunteers one by one as if they were trying out for a Hollywood musical. One performs Clinton's Celine Dion's theme song and another makes up a hip-hop song about "Hill-Dizzle in the White House."
Reiner says, "Okay okay - could you try it with a little more enthusiasm?"
"Make noise, make signs, make history. Everyone has a role," the announcer says.
The ad is Reiner's first declaration of support for Clinton. He is throwing Clinton a fundraiser at his house in honor of her 60th birthday on October 21st.
