ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee raised just over $ 1 million in the period between July 1 and September 30, his campaign announced Wednesday.

Chip Saltsman, Huckabee's Campaign Manager said of the fundraising effort, "While we'd like to show more dollars in the bank, we've been careful with our resources and we'll have what we need to stay in the game," saying also, "The campaign has been flooded with generous offers of support since Ames, including nearly 10,000 new donors,"

The numbers still don't compare with the "top-tier" candidates. Just this week Fred Thompson reported raising about $8 million this quarter. While Huckabee has been riding high on the results of the straw poll, the values voter poll and strong performances in the many Republican debates the fundraising effort still has not been able to reach a level in which he can play across the map with the likes of Giuliani and Romney.

"We aren't going to report what the so-called 'first-tier' candidates have raised, said Mike Huckabee in a statement.  But then again, we don't need to raise as much funds because we are frugal. Our goal is to stay competitive-and we will be."

While his totals may be dwarfed by the other candidates, Huckabee continues to increase his totals each quarter. He raised $544,157.47 in the first quarter of 2007 and 765,873.13 in the second. This latest round of fundraising should see him through the Iowa Caucuses in January and perhaps even through the early primary states of New Hampshire and South Carolina.

With all the media exposure Huckabee has been \getting and his self claimed front runner status...1 million is extremely sad.

I have a burning feeling the media is manipulating the election. Showing the public the faces it likes more. This way when one goes to vote, the more popular the name is who gets the vote.
