Montana Senator Launches TV Ad Criticizing Bush for SCHIP Veto
October 03, 2007 2:13 PM
ABC News' Tahman Bradley reports: Senator Max Baucus, Democrat of Montana, is up on the air in his home state with a commercial whacking President Bush for vetoing the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
The 30 second television ad -- narrator to camera by Baucus -- begins with the picture of a little girl named Abigail, who the Senator says is one of 14,000 Montana kids who depend on SCHIP.
". . .I've worked hard to bring Democrats and Republicans together to expand health care for our kids, and that's why I'm so disappointed that President Bush decided to veto my bill," says Baucus, the author of the Senate version of a bill to expand SCHIP.
You can view the ad by clicking HERE.
Earlier in day, President Bush vetoed the SCHIP bill citing concerns that the legislation would move health care in the U.S. in "wrong direction."
Bush is at odds with Congress over how much money should be put into the program. The president wants a $5 billion increase, but the Democratic-controlled Congress wants to expand it by $ 35 billion over 5 years.
The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 72 percent of Americans support expanding SCHIP.
Baucus is up for re-election in 2008, and Republicans would like to recapture his seat in what has historically been a solidly Red state. President Bush carried Montana both in 2000 and 2004. But Democrats have been having some successes lately. Jon Tester was elected to the Senate in 2006 following the election of Gov. Brian Schweitzer in 2004.

What a GREAT idea -- all senators and representatives should do the same as well as all Democratic Candidates running for President.
George Bush just wants to negotiate for another 42 billion that congress didn't approve yet. Let him retire just 6 Blackwater Crazies and there would be the money -- matter of fact -- 10 would be better at this point.

Bush wants money to be spent on Wars in Afganistan, Iraq, and Iran not children's health care. Now the proof is in the pudding. I hope all the Christians who voted for him that have an abundance of health care issues with their children get the picture. Was Stacking the Supreme Court worth your children's health?

I hope Montanians come to their senses and throw this pathetic guy out. No way Tester should be in there as well. The GOP really blew it with that Drunk. Time to return Montana to a RED state. I hope the GOP can nominate a winner. This clown is so pathetic he needs to be booted out with Harry "do nothing" Reid. They can retire together in searchlight, NV.
