ABC News Sunlen Miller Reports: Speaking at an "inter-faith" forum in Des Moines, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama confessed that faith not only runs a thread in politics, but also plays a role in his plans to fight global climate change.

"The Bible tells us that when God created the Earth, he entrusted us with the responsibility to take care of that Earth – to exercise stewardship over His creation," the Senator preached early Sunday morning, "It is a responsibility to insure that this planet remains clean and safe and livable for our children and for all of god’s children."

Obama, who's seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, says that the government and Americans have not been living up to that responsibility, "acting as good stewards of god’s earth when our bottom line buts the size of our profits ahead of the future of our planet."

Last week, Senator Obama laid out his plan to combat global climate change, one that puts a hard cap on all carbon emissions, aiming to cut global warming 80% by 2050.

The presidential candidate preached that his faith will summon up the leadership necessary for the change needed. "Solving this challenge also requires faith. Not a blind faith or a faith of mere words, but an active faith. It’s a faith that doesn’t look at the hardship and pain and suffering in the world and use it all as an excuse for inaction or cynicism, but one that accepts the fact that while we’re not going to solve every problem, here on Earth we can make a difference."

Saying climate change isn’t just convenient to bring up during the campaign, Obama pointed a finger at some of his opponents for the presidency, "You see a lot of politicians running for president, talking about how they’ll investing in renewable energy even although they’ve taken a pass on it in years n Washington."

While Obama spoke at the Des Moines Library it was one of those opponents, John Edwards, who nabbed the endorsement of the national environmental group Friends of the Earth Action.
