Teachers Union Endorses Clinton

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: One of the nation's most politically influential unions is endorsing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, in another dose of good news for the Democratic presidential frontrunner.

The American Federation of Teachers, which boasts 1.4 million members, plans to announce the endorsement at 1 pm ET Wednesday, at a press conference on Capitol Hill.

"Our members have told us that they want a leader they can trust to strengthen public education, increase access to healthcare, promote commonsense economic priorities and secure America’s place in the world," AFT President Edward J. McElroy said in a press release announcing the endorsement. "Hillary Clinton is that leader."

All of the major Democratic candidates were seeking the AFT's endorsement. All of the Democrats -- particularly former senator John Edwards, D-N.C. -- have aggressively sought labor endorsements in the Democratic primary.

Another politically active union, the Service Employees International Union, announced this month that none of the candidates has enough support among its members to secure an endorsement at this time.

In endorsing Clinton, the AFT said it would enlist its members in a "political mobilization program" on behalf of the union's chosen candidate.

Did the AFT bother asking if Hillary has refunded any of the $850,000 of dirty Norman Hsu bundled campaign contributions yet--as she promised??

Did the AFT bother asking how Hillary can tell contributors, with a straight face, to simply re-donate the money back to her after the "refund"--essentially LAUNDERING dirty money?

Did the AFT bother asking how Hillary will pay for her Baby Bond proposal? Will illegal aliens be eligible to get it for children born in the US? If "every child born in the United States today owes $27,000 on the national debt," then why should we add $5,000 to it in the name of flagrant pandering?

Did the AFT bother asking Hillary how much her position on Iraq has changed this week? Why does she REFUSE to commit to the removal of US troops from Iraq by the end of her first term in Jan 2013?

Did the AFT bother asking if Hillary favors taking away the secret ballot for unionizing votes? Can she explain why that is such a good idea?

Did the AFT bother to ask it's members which candidate they prefer. I am an AFT member and find it appalling that the leadership can unilaterally decide an issue like this. Hillary just got one vote. I'll vote the way I chose on election day.

In a "closed shop" arrangement, in a state without "right to work" laws, if you don't like how the union spends your mandatory dues--then your only choice is to quit.
Your union's national leaders can choose to spend your mandatory dues to campaign for candidates whom you don't necessarily like. And you can't reasonably do jack squat.

If you own shares in a corporation, and you don't like whom they support, you can just sell your shares--much easier.

That endorsement by the teachers union speaks volumes of why our nations students are among the lower tier of education in this world !

Anybody that has watched the AFT in action knows that communism is still a political force in the USA. They couldn't have picked a better candidate to support their views.

Sounds like AFT didn't check with their members before they came out to endorse?? Is this legal?? or do we have more $$ issues??

I bet the AFT didnt have to ask her how many more kids are going to die in Iraq when she becomes president!because they know who's right and it certaintly isnt Georgie boy..........I'm really glad to see the AFT IS SUPPORTING HER.

Don't expect to welcome all the troops home in January 2009 under President Hillary, because she REFUSES to commit to the removal of US troops from Iraq even by the end of her first term in JANUARY 2013.

Why would she hesitate if opposition to the war is such a winning issue for the Democrats? Very curious.

another reason for private schools and vouchers.

YEAH, OK, THIS is New.. NOT --- Like this is a big surprise, who cares..... They just want to suck up more taxpayer dollars while they continue to do a bad job of ACTUALLY teaching our kids..................

This isn't news. Most teachers don't bite the hand that feeds them. They vote what's best for their own wallets instead of voting what's best for the USA. The dems are always raising taxes and claiming "but it's for the children" and padding their own wallets. So no surprise here, the surprise would have been if the union supported Fred Thompson. That would have been news.

Only a dumb teacher would vote for someone like Obama. AFT got this one right. Hillary is the most qualified candidate to be President.

Forget this smokescreen. Ron Paul appears to be the only candidate that wants to abolish the Dept of Education; a useless, bungling, money-eating dinosaur. Our nation is almost at the very BOTTOM world-wide with test/achievement results(in other words mass functional illiteracy!)and we just keep feeding the monster! Since we are FORCED to have our property tax dollars EATEN by the incessant demands of the public school machine, which will only get worse, since the schools are absorbing all the illegal immigrants' children, let Ron Paul ABOLISH the monster. The NEA(The leftist union) HATES VOUCHERS,HOMESCHOOLERS,etc since they are a growing threat to there stronghold on their Educational monopoly.Since the Left OVES control of the masses, no wonder this teacher's union supports BIG GOVT/BIG SPENDING!Wake-up citizens and take back your rights against these bureaucratic bottomless holes!

The union is an embarrassment to those of us who are educated enough to know that Hillary is not what America needs. I'm from NY. She's been a good Senator, but not a leader. At all. She's nearly invisible here. Of course, this isn't even the half. Check out this ABC article if your a union member:
