Thompson Says He's 'The Most Proven Tax Cutter'

ABC News' Christine Byun Reports: Former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., attempted to draw more distinction between himself and the rest of the GOP field calling himself a "the most proven tax cutter and pro-growth guy running for president this year."

Thompson touted his record, noting while "others were opposing state income tax cuts," he supported lowering taxes during his eight year career as Tennessee senator.

Speaking before the conservative Club for Growth, Thompson –  who entered the race in September – called the country's tax code a "hopeless mess" and promised to simplify it.  He also hinted at a coming economic plan.

When asked by a member on his view of the McCain-Feingold Act, the bipartisan campaign finance bill he helped push through the Senate in 2002, Thompson said "it's a valid concept, but we went too far."

Thompson explained that he believes the law strives to achieve "good things" like regulating soft money. However, the GOP hopeful asserted the provision regulating political ads prior to elections are not working and "shouldn’t have been attempted." While discussing campaign finance laws, Thompson also took the opportunity to take a jab at fellow presidential candidate-in-the running, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

"I may change my mind a little [about McCain-Feingold] when this election’s over with and others have been putting $100 million of their own money," Thompson said, alluding to Romney, who spent more than $8 million of his personal wealth to fund his campaign this past quarter. According to Federal Election Commission reports for the third quarter, Thompson trails in fundraising totals behind Romney and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Fred Thompson Hires Mr. Macaca

I just saw this interesting blog post that our Macaca friend, George Allen, is back into the political world as Fred Thompsons National Campaign Co-Chair. Mr. Thompson have you not been keeping up with the world again? Recently Fred was quoted as saying

"I’m afraid that the Soviet Union & China are not ever going to do anything that’s going to hurt them that badly but we need to ratchet those up if at all possible."

Mr. Thompson also couldn't recall details about the Teri Schaivo case which really was on every tv channel, even cutting into reruns of Law & Order! This is a great way to start off a candidacy by picking Mr. Macaca himself as your national campaign co-chair. George Allen LOST his senate seat going from a presidential hopeful to a political zero due to the comments he had said to a Young Indian American, working for his opponents campaign.

The community has not forgotten Mr. Thompson and if you keep this up you too will be around just like the Soviet Union.

He's dreaming.

Let's put the Tax Payer's best friend in the White House....Dr. Ron Paul.

Ron Paul in 30 years in Congress,
has NEVER voted to raise taxes.
