Capitol Hill Firestarter Caught?

ABC News' Jennifer Parker Reports: Capitol Hill Police are refusing to confirm a news report that one of their own has been suspended in connection with a series of fires set in women's bathrooms in Senate office buildings.

Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper, reported late Monday afternoon that several law enforcement officials wishing to remain anonymous confirmed Officer Karen Emory was suspended in connection with the fire investigation, though her involvement isn't known.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider told ABC News the Roll Call report "could jeopardize an ongoing investigation."

"We don't comment on personnel matters," Schneider said in a phone conversation with ABC News. "We haven't made any arrests, it's still under investigation."

For months, Capitol Police have been trying to flush out who is responsible for a series of small fires suspiciously set inside women's restrooms on Capitol Hill.

About seven fires have been set since late September in the buildings that house senators' offices and hearing rooms -- buildings that are adjacent to the U.S. Capitol.

Despite posting additional patrols inside the Senate office buildings, Capitol Hill Police say they are no closer to arresting the firestarter.

"This is still an ongoing investigation, we haven't charged anyone," Schneider said.
