ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: It was just another morning at the famous Drake Diner in Des Moines, Iowa with patrons gathering over eggs and toast.

Around 9:30am Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Retired General Wes Clark walked in. Christie Vilsack, wife of former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, joined the party a little later.

The three of them sidled up to the counter in front cameras and print reporters, and engaged in a casual conversation about global warming and relations with China.

"Wes just got back from China where he was talking to some of the Chineese about global warming," Clinton said to Christie Vilsack. Clark jumped in, "they are ready for American leadership, they are so ready, they just want us to lead, it's' so sad." Clinton said, "It is sad, it is sad."

Clinton casually brought up her energy plan over a fruit cup and de-caffinated coffee.

"That's what I said in my energy plan. That as President I would start meeting with the major gas emitting countries, including China." Clinton continued, "you can't turn and point a finger at China and say 'oh, just because you missed the industrial revolution we dont want you to grow.' That's not the way you actually get their cooperation."

Before sitting down, Clinton waked around the diner and handed out pledge cards to patrons.

"Y'all on your way to work?" Clinton asked three young women who work at a children's' hospital who had actually just gotten off their shift.  "I love children's hospitals," Clinton said, "every time I walk into a children's hospital I get teary-eyed."

Clinton told patrons she "eat(s)too much" at the famous Drake Diner which is owned by the brother of Clinton's' Iowa State Director.

Clinton is set to deliver what the campaign is calling a major speech about the economy this morning in Knoxville, Iowa.
