Giuliani: Early-State Losses Would 'Create Ulcers'
November 26, 2007 9:12 AM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: Rudy Giuliani's advisers have long downplayed the importance of early contests in Iowa, where he is statistically tied for third place, and New Hampshire, where he is statistically tied for second, by arguing that the former New York mayor could overcome such losses with subsequent victories in Florida, which votes Jan. 29, as well as victories in Feb. 5 states such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware which reward delegates on a winner-take-all-basis.
But in an interview with The Washington Post's Dan Balz conducted while campaigning in New Hampshire over the weekend, Giuliani expressed little interest in putting that theory to the test unless absolutely necessary.
"'It is not inconceivable that you could, if you won Florida [after losing in the early states], turn the whole thing around,'" Giuliani told The Washington Post. "'I'd rather not do it that way. That would create ulcers for my entire staff and for me. . . . We want to win as many of the early ones as possible. That's why we're here [New Hampshire] and not in Florida right now.'"
A spokesman to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the Republican who sits atop the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire, seized on Giuliani saying that early-state losses would "create ulcers."
"Mayor Giuliani is just realizing that Iowa and New Hampshire voters do, in fact, matter," Romney spokesman Kevin Madden told ABC News. "The mayor seems to be realizing that about six months later than other campaigns. I expect that Mayor Giuliani could be buying Rolaids and Tums in bulk if he doesn't start leading in those early states now that he's competing hard in them."
Beyond his comment about ulcers, Giuliani raised the stakes for himself in his Washington Post interview by expressing his intention to overcome Romney in New Hampshire.
"We think we can catch him and get ahead of him," Giuliani said of Romney in New Hampshire.

Talk about your NWO puppets! CFR, BILDERBERG supporter! This guy holds stock in the company that supports the NAFTA super highway.
They have taken land from people that has been in their families since the spanish land deals.
This is one of many people that we cannot afford to have in the white house. In fact he should be barred from politics all together.

I have a sure way for him not to get ulcers. Quit running. That would save a lot of us from getting ulcers if he were to win.
