Giuliani: Kerik Mistake Should Not Discount Results
November 08, 2007 12:39 PM
ABC News' Jan Simmonds reports: At a press conference in Dubuque, Iowa this morning Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said that although he made a mistake in not thoroughly checking Bernard Keriks' in hiring him as police commissioner in New York, the other results he delivered as New York Mayor should not be overlooked.
"I think that voters should look at it and what they should say is, in that particular case, I have pointed out that I have made a mistake, I made a mistake in not clearing him effectively enough," said Giuliani
outside the County Courthouse in Dubuque, Iowa Thursday morning.
"I take the responsibility for that," he added. "But I think they can then look at the results that I had as United States Attorney, the results I had as Associate Attorney General, and most importantly the
results that I had as Mayor and say to themselves: if he makes the same balance of right decisions and incorrect decisions as president, the country would be in pretty good shape."
ABC News' Rich Esposito reported yesterday that federal prosecutors are expected to ask a federal grand jury today to indict Kerik for failing to pay taxes on free apartment renovations and rent, according
to two federal sources.
In Iowa, Giuliani did not respond when he was asked whether he continues to supported Kerik but said, "My view point on that is this has to be decided in the courts. A lot of public comment about it is
inconsistent with it getting resolved in the right way in the courts."
The government's case as it has been presented to the grand jury has multiple components that would be reflected in a multiple count indictment, ABC News has learned.
According to sources, Kerik has been involved in preparing his defense, has expected the indictment, and is expected to surrender to the United States Marshals Friday morning.

Yes, Rudy made a mistake in not checking out Bernie Kerik more carefully. But what is remarkable here is where Kerik would have been if he had succeeded in becoming the head of Homeland Security. There is certainly alot more to this story, and Giuliani's name is going to surface again. An this is the man who wants to be president? I don't think so!!!

You make too many mistakes Rudy in your personal and public life.Being a President need an elite candidate that recognise a single mistake is a big mistake if you're prepare to be President of the most powerful country in the world.See all the problems that are now surfacing should've been taken care off twenty or more years ago if the leaders(Presidents)in those days didn't make too many mistakes? Now we find out twenty million illegals are screwing up the system, immoral behaviors spread like a fire throughout the land gay marriages, divorce on the rise, families torn apart, alcohol and drugs everywhere, porn and pornography all over the net,we are becoming an enemy to most country and many more.We use to be the darling of the world but because a President is not setting a good example for the country and the people to follow we end up with all these messes. An excellent leader is what this country really need in these critical times and God will sure listen and come to the rescue not someone with multiple marriages, for abortion, for gay marriages, for illegals and desperate for war without having faith in God and don't just jump to grab the gun for no reason. This nation was founded on Gods principles and need a President that fear God first rather than man and follow Gods way.I think I know who the perfect candidate for the job is the one wife Mormon.

No, Rudy, misspelling the word "quirk" on a college essay is a mistake. Telling one's wife she looks horrible in a new dress is a mistake. Obviously, you really want to water down the obvious and have made the same error in judgement GW Bush has made time and time again. That is, to wit, choosing unqualified and untrustworthy people for your administration and then trying to look like you were duped when the facts come out in the media.

Finally tossed him under the bus . . .

Why did you make that "mistake"? Was it because Bernie Kerik was your own personal protege, who you promoted to Police Chief over the objections of your advisors, even though he did not meet the qualifications? And was it because you were his friend and godfather to his two children? Putting personal loyalty above everything is not what we need in a president.

Rudy - How long can you take us for a ride? "Once bitten twice shy" - You lost my confidence. The grass is definitely greener on the other side for me.

I don't think that Gay marriages has anything to do with what is going wrong with this Country. I am a parent and have five children and happen to be a gay man. My being Gay has nothing to do with the religious trying to pass off all of the ill's of this Country on the Gay's. One wife mormon or one husband Gay, What does that have to do with anything. Marriage is not what it use to be and it has nothing to do with being straight or Gay.

I'll still vote for Rudy. He proved his ability long ago and is dersiving of the presidency. We could and have done a lot worse.
