Huckabee Hits Romney on Illegal Lawn Workers
November 14, 2007 11:10 AM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: Fast-rising Mike Huckabee took a swipe at Mitt Romney on Wednesday for allegedly having used a lawn service firm which employs illegal immigrants.
"I guess Mitt Romney would rather keep people out of college so they can keep working on his lawn," said Huckabee while appearing on the Fox News Channel.
Huckabee's shot at Romney came when the former Arkansas governor was asked about criticism he has received from Romney for backing an unsuccessful proposal in Arkansas to offer college scholarships to the children of illegal immigrants.
The campaigns of both Romney and Fred Thompson see Huckabee's record on "tuition breaks for the children of illegal immigrants" as key to their hopes of slowing his momentum in Iowa, a state where anti-illegal immigration passions run high.
A new CBS/New York Times poll shows Huckabee just six percentage points behind Romney despite the former Massachusetts governor's substantial fundraising lead (Romney 27, Huckabee 21, Giuliani 15, Thompson 9).
Huckabee has defended his record on the "tuition break" issue by saying it is unfair to punish children for things their parents did. His detractors have painted it as a proposal that would have rewarded law-breaking and encouraged additional illegal immigration.
Romney's decade-long use of a lawn service firm which "relies heavily" on illegal immigrants was first reported by the Boston Globe on Dec. 1, 2006.

Wow... and I thought Huckabee had some class!
Didn't they decide that Romney could not legally ask his lawn company if they hired illegal immigrants?
Huckabee's a RINO... and he's starting to get desperate.

Gee, Brad, who is "they"? If "they" are the Romney supporters who support this fraud, I'm sure "they" concluded that it was no big deal.
Huckabee is not desperate. Mitt is spending a half million dollars a week in advertising, and he is the one looking over his shoulder....

Hellow Minister!so you have a big issue on illegal immigrants?Well minister!you preach righteousness, obedient and honesty didn't you so you should practice what you preach.Look minister by telling illegal parents of those children that we do things through the law in the United States is your obligation to teach them about law abiding and honesty. It's part of your responsibilities as a preacher to teach fellowmen of the truth and right. They will appreciate it very much that you deal with them honestly and in the right way and thats how we teach immigrants and the world to obey laws and do the right thing. We cannot say one thing and do another thing.

I live in MA and its hard to find a lawn care company that's not all illegal immigrant workers. At least Romney, didn't tie an illegal to the roof of his station wagon as a car washer during the road trip to his lake home. Besides, the illegals holding flowers in his yard were not working.... Romney was marrying them.

I gotta say it...I LIKE MIKE!
He's the Cinderella Man that will win Iowa.

Mike Huckabee is the only viable candidate a christian can support. He is a pro-life, pro-family, former pastor. Plastic Boy Romney is a Republican Hillary Clinton...changes positions with polls.

Huckabee is an adroit public speaker. He is all about calling his listeners to "do something," to awaken them to their own empowerment, and summon them to action in order that "Main Street," and not "Wall Street," will prevail in guarding the values and beliefs upon which the Republic was founded.
Huck’s not as “mechanically-scripted” as Romney, nor angry or demanding, like a Ron Paul, and his large brown eyes, peering through a humble demeanor, draw a striking contrast to a unconvincing, tired-looking Thompson. One can easily imagine sitting comfortably with Mike over a cup of coffee at the Main Street Cafe.
Most importantly, Huckabee convinces many that he is ONE with the FairTax grassroots movement. Romney's recent WEAK response to FairTax questioning on “This Week with Geo. Stephanopoulos ” drew a sharp contrast between Huckabee and all other presidential front-runners who will not embrace it. Huckabee understands that what''s wrong with the income tax can''t be fixed with "a tap of the hammer, nor a twist of the screwdriver." That his opponents cling to the destructive Tax Code, the IRS, preserving political power of granting tax favors at continued cost to - and misery of - American families, invigorates his campaign''s raison d''etre. “Main Street” will have to demand that their legislators deliver the bill.

Huckabee was in deep doo doo because he supported tuition breaks for illegal aliens going to state universities. Thats why he lashed out at Mitt. I am no Mitt fan, but he has a much stronger position on illegal aliens than Huckabee does. After what happened to Hill in the last debate wait and see if all the candidates dont start taking a much harder position on amnesty for illegal aliens. No more public assistance, less free medical care, and more enforcement of the law. Huckabee will get nailed for his position on giving lower tuition to illegal aliens than American citizens, wait and see.

Well, now I know that Huckabee proposed that legislation, there goes my respect for him too. I guess this might be the first election I just vote Democrat and vote for Obama, and get it over and done with...you know they're gonna win...well, unless they're dumb enough to put Hillary up for nomiation! I think Obama is a uniter, even if I don't agree with most of his policies. I know Huckabee won't be able to unite. The Dems would never give him such a luxury.

Giuliani is out due to his association with a child molester and his record on gun control. McCain, Huckabee, Giuliani and Romney battle to see who is the softest on illegal aliens. Right now the Republican nomination looks like a contest between Paul and Thompson.

Romney doesnt need help with his lawn as much as he needs some principles that don't change with every campaign he runs in.
