Huckabee Wins Wrestler's Endorsement
November 20, 2007 1:16 PM
ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Republican presidential candidate former Governor Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., has another famous fighter in his corner.
Just two days after the release of his first campaign ad co-starring martial arts and action movie star Chuck Norris, Ric Flair the "16-time World Wrestling Heavyweight Champion" joins the rostrum of Huckabee supporters.
"His authentic conservative qualifications and level of executive leadership experience are unmatched by his opponents." Flair, nicknamed "The Nature Boy" in his wrestling days, said in statement released by the Huckabee campaign. "And like I always say, to be the man, you've got to beat the man and Mike Huckabee is the man. Whoooooooo!"
Of the endorsement, Huckabee said "I am honored to have the support of Ric Flair. I'm a huge fan of the Nature Boy," Huckabee said of the endorsement. "Most of all, I look forward to having Nature Boy join me on the campaign trail at the South Carolina-Clemson game this weekend. Ric's endorsement will help us put a figure four-leg lock on our opponents."
This Saturday Flair will host a tail gate in support of Huckabee before the University of South Carolina -Clemson football game. The game, often referred to as "The Battle for the Palmetto State" marks Huckabee's return to South Carolina where he's battling for footing in the important early state primary on January 19th.
While there have not been many recent and reliable polls taken in South Carolina, on September 10, the LA Times / Bloomberg poll reported Huckabee at 6 percent in the state and running in fifth place.
