Huckabee's First Ad Has Star Power

ABC News' Kevin Chupka Reports: Former Gov. Mike Huckabee's first campaign television ad packs a karate punch with celebrity flair. Ask anyone on the campaign and they'll tell you Huckabee is a star, but with his national name recognition still nascent, Huckabee called on his most famous endorser to be his right hand man, Chuck Norris.

The ad is based around what they call "HuckChuck Facts," a play on the Internet phenomenon "Chuck Norris Facts" "Mike Huckabee's a life long hunter who'll protect our second amendment right" says Norris. "There's no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard, only another fist" quips Huckabee.

The ad is set simply with "Huck and Chuck" sitting in a Western style room, the camera cutting between the two. "This is a light-hearted ad which draws attention to important issues. We want to show that running for President is serious business but a person can have fun doing it," Huckabee said in a campaign release today.

You can view the ad HERE.

The ad, which according to the Associate Press begins airing this week on cable stations in Iowa, comes on the heals of strong poll numbers for the Huckabee campaign in that state.

According to the poll, released last week by CBS News and the New York Times, Huckabee is trailing leader former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney by only six points and it would see the ad is latest push by the campaign to get Huckabee's message of secure borders, second amendment rights and the fair tax out to the voters that, right now, are in Huckabee's crosshairs.

This ad is the best campaign ad so far! (Except perhaps for the 1984 Hillary Clinton "ad" of course) :)

Go Mike Go!

It's a good ad -- humorous while carrying a clear and important point.

Huckabee's record as Governor of Arkansas indicates he is another open border's George Bush. He gave the Mexican Government a real good deal to establish a Mexican Consulate in Arkansas. There are now forty-seven (47!!!!) of these consulates nation wide. This is where the illegals go to get the bogus Matricular consular cards which enables them, as illegals, to open bank accounts, buy cars, etc. The Consulates even form mobile consulates going to various parts of the US to hand out these cards. This is colonization by the Mexican government and Huckabee helped them. Be wary of this man. Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo for president!

I don't care how entertaining the ad may be, I would never vote for a Baptist Minister for President ... period.

Once again Mike shows us his great personality which will capture many American's votes on election day. Mike is the most electable candidate who will lead American where it needs to be. Go MIKE!

Very similar to the secret segments on Conan O'Brien. Somebody on the campaign must be a fan of Conan, who coincidently loves making fun of Chuck Norris.

Is this a joke? Does Chuck Norris have a lisp or is he just not that bright? I thought for sure it was a spoof until I saw the ad. Is he really that desperate?

I still can't believe Pat Robertson endorsed Giuliani over a minister like Huckabee.

Posted by: kenny | Nov 18, 2007 8:33:28 PM

I just want to ask.... what will he do for this nation and what has he done for this nation that makes him worthy of being our leader? I insist you give facts! Not just that he is a minister just because someone preaches something doesnt mean they practice it.

Also... what issues does he bring to the table that will improve this country? I mean he didnt start mentioning the Constitution until he realized it was becoming popular to do so.

This guy is going to get crushed by Ron Paul in the presidential primaries! Still please give your fact based reasonings behind voting for him.

Oh my gosh, now that was a funny Campaign ad. Are they doing a movie together? Will it be called Chuck & Huck, Return of the Ninjas?

Seriously, Huckabee needs to get rid of Chuck in his Campaign Ad, and stick to the issues. I actually liked Huckabee until I read his views regarding illegals. He is not tough at all when it comes to them, he will allow them to just walk on in. Huck might make a decent Vice President, if he had different views regarding illegals and actually securing our borders. He is the only other candidate that wants to do away with the IRS, now that is awesome. Ron Paul has my vote and support, he fits my views and beliefs, and I know I can trust him.

Mr. Huckabee should be concerned about our borders, and not letting illegal immigrants in - and if they're here illegally (the key word) they need to be sent home, period. No citizenships granted for illegals.

Huckabee must be one of those rude people who shoved in line in front of other people. That's what he's allowing the illegals to do - take precedence over those who patiently wait in line to get into this country legally.

Shame on Huckabee. For that reason, I will not vote for him.

Ron Paul has a lot of great ideas - including protecting our borders. I'm voting for Congressman Ron Paul..

At least you're willing to dmit your religious bigotry. No doubt you would not have voted for many of the founding fatehrs--far too religious for the likes of you. How do you stand this country?! Of course you can go to countries like North Korea where you can be sure no Baptist minister would ever even make it to Governor. Such a fairer, more rational minded society don't you think? Geez.

I liked Huckabeee until learning more about how he was going to give unfair advantage/scholarships to children of illegal aliens just because of their status. After readiing more, i think he's done himself in with the immigration issue, more than the War, jsut like McCain. Too bad, because socially, he is a principled conservative. I will not vote for him...even though I gerenally think he is proably the most honest, nicest politician in the race.

Who is next to endorse him, Sly Stallone, Jean CLaude Van Dam or Vin Diesel?

Posted by: Swissdiver | Nov 19, 2007 1:01:54 AM

Which part he's going to play on the Texas Stranger TV show?

Posted by: kmjjp | Nov 19, 2007 2:56:10 AM

He is not called the huckster for nothing back in Ark. And do you really want a sleeze bag baptist preacher for your president? Think about dodson and robertson sleeping over for preyer breakfasts folks.

Posted by: Travler | Nov 19, 2007 8:44:09 AM

We definitely do not need a former Baptist preacher in the White House! Having a president who is convinced he was put there by God was bad enough.

If I didn't know better, I'd say the ad was great. And, if I were promoting Huck for some reason, I'd say it was great too!

This ad is funny. The correct physics is that both the Earth and Chuck Norris move, of course.

Great ad.

Re: any criticisms of Mike.
He welcomes them, and has addressed them, over and over, on national news interviews.
They hold no water.

Re: tax increases as governor:

1. Arkansas Supreme Court ordered increased funding for education, and Mike and the legislature had to comply.

2. Viral video showing Mike, as governor, saying it's okay to raise some taxes.
Mike has explained that the Arkansas government was, on that date, exactly 3 days from shutting down, and he and the legislature had to balance the budget, immediately, since state law required a balanced budget.
Then, when finances improved, he left the state with a one billion dollar surplus, and cut taxes 94 times.

Re: marital shower after 19 years of marriage. This, also, he has explained many times: at Dillards and Target, then they didn't have the correct 'housewarming' category, when their friends wanted to help furnish a new home, after being governor.
Many stores were that way, at the time.
So, it was categorized, by their friends, at the stores, as a marital shower.
No issue, at all.

100% of any criticisms, he has heard before, and they have all been found to be without merit, even amidst the hugely Democratic state of Arkansas.

As he says, like dry spaghetti, it just doesn't stick.

Let's not mistake the affairs of teh Clinonts, renting out rooms at teh White House with what Huckabeee might do. He is no comparsion to the low ball sleaze and corruption of the Clintons. And yet you liberals would still support that and them over, God forbid, a baptist misnister! You are all simply religious bigots--intolerant of anyone not like yourselves. You should be ashamed of even living in a country like America, founded mostly by strong Christians who wanted to freely worship!

If ABC News is going to edit comments, the least they could do is provide a note. Otherwise, they're misrepresenting what people - including me above - say. I wonder whether that could be actionable.

Here's the original version of what I posted above, before ABC News edited it without notice:

If I didn't know better, I'd say the ad was great. And, if I were promoting Huck for some reason, I'd say it was great too! Thankfully, I'm actually familiar with Huck's record:

Maybe ABC could decide to do some real reporting about his record. (Or, perhaps they're waiting until after they've built him up.)
