Oprah to Hit Obama Campaign Trail

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Hill may have Bill, but Obama’s got Oprah.

After much speculation, the campaign announced that Oprah will hit the campaign trail with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on December 8th and 9th, making stops in the key early states of Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire.

Obama himself prematurely spilled the beans on Oprah's first trip last week.

Commenting in a rope line last Tuesday, Obama told a New Hampshire voter that Oprah would campaign in Iowa first then he’d see about getting her to the Granite State.

And before taking off for Thanksgiving Break Obama gave reporters a clue to how the campaign is using the media mogul's star power, "Obviously to the extent that she can highlight some of the themes of our campaign, and reach some people who might not otherwise be thinking about politics, that great. She's a dear friend really appreciate she's taken the time out of our busy schedule," he said.

Besides her time, Oprah has also donated her money to the Obama campaign: she hosted a 1,500 person fundraiser for Obama at her home on September 8th.

The very reason Oprah is helping Obama, is the very reason Obama can never win: Obama is black. Oprah, being black herself and coming out in support of a black candidate, is a clear indicator that race is most definitely an issue in this presidential race. If it weren't, then why isn't Oprah supporting some other candidate, why the push for Obama over even Hillary who is also a woman alongside Oprah.

The dirty and ugly truth is that Americans are simply not ready for a black president yet, and its unlikely they will be anytime soon. And no amount of political correctness intended to invoke shame or guilt upon voters can ever manipulate their votes enough to the contrary. People will always vote with their hearts and conscience, not what the media nor a talk show attempts to shame them into doing.

Yes you'd think that this being 21st century America that we'd have moved past all that racial tension by now, but one need only turn on the TV to get an instant reminder of just how segregated American society actually is and continues to be. In the news, popular media, schools, the workplace.. its the dark underbelly that no one wants to deal with or discuss anymore for fear of being labeled racist (which, ironically, is why society can never move forward on this issue due to the lack of honest debate). The net effect will be that votes will tend to reflect that culture at the polls.

Trust me, as an Oprah fan for years, she takes very seriously the influence she has with millions of people. She's chosen Barack Obama for the same reason many of us have. We trust him. He's going to be a President for ALL people. He's going to help return what is currently a democracy gone wrong back to a government of and by and for the peopld--as promised by our fore fathers. Oprah isn't supporting Hilary, not because she isn't black, because she has too much political baggage. And, I might add, America is ready for a President who will give us change. You would be surprised at the number of NON-black supporters that Mr. Obama has--MANY elderly white people. So, there goes your theory!
